T360 Apres Midnight Apres Ski Edit, Under Construction At 12:01 A.M.

We Were Blown Away By Conditions At Tremblant Today!

Look at the traffic lights for the lifts and you’ll see
all the Sud/South is closed. Huge, very huge wind
from the East. It was literally a “Howler”. On P’tit
Bonheur, it was more than enough at times to stop
you with direct frontal force, so an active skating
motion was often required to descend.

The wind was fierce today, so fierce that at one point it
looked like the Sud/South closure might be for the whole
day, however at just around 2:00 P.M. the gustiest part
seemed to subside and the Gondola started carrying
passengers again. You had to carry your skis inside
the cabin. At that point we did a quick run down Nansen
Haut/Upper and we’re pleased to report it was immaculate.

Overall the skiing was actually quite good, there were a few
windblown/icy bits but if you had sharp edges you would
not have found any of them difficult. The vast majority of
surfaces were very easy to extract racer-style carving from,
so we’d have to call it a great day strictly on the merits of
the performance all skill levels could find within their
respective talents.

More on all in the morning, but check out some of the
forecast details below for the very big Colorado storm
system that’s supposed to hit our region tomorrow.

Estimates range from 20 to 40 Cm’s, so that is a
game changer... if it all happens.

--------------- 6:59 A.M. Orig. Post ------------------

36(*) Open Trails On Sud/South And Nord/North Sectors At #Tremblant .

--------------- 11:37 A.M. Insert Update: -----------------------

Versant Sud/South Side Temporarily CLOSED Due To High Winds.

We do think this will be temporary however peak wind gusts
can be either singular or repetitive, so it is possible that there
could be only this one, or maybe multiple incidents.

Work Goes On While Waiting For The Big Snowstorm.

Even though there’s supposed to be big snow on the way,
Mountain Crews still demonstrate the need and the value
of having as much good base in place for it to fall on.
This is only one example of many, but still an especially
important one as the hub of the Resort with the Gondola base.

The Big Storm Will Likely Generate High Variability
In Conditions Due To Wind Shaping.

You will want to talk to the Tremblant Info.Ski Team Memebers.

Conditions Notes:

Yesterday’s combination of an additional overnight grooming cycle
and rising temps to just below Zero C at trail elevations made
for overall very fine performance surfaces, with very few glitches,
and across all skill level rated open terrain. We forecast that this type
of incremental daily increase in overall groomed surface consistency
should be exactly what we see again today.

There has been a sort of dusty granularity to the surfaces
that we’ve tried to capture with this shot below. The feeling
underfoot yesterday was silky-smooth though, and with
the wee bump up in the temps today, it should be even
smoother yet.

Please Note: The current Summit temp is at -4 C, so we
have a very desirable -6C cooler spread over elevations
that should help to maintain trail base stability, however...
As is always the case, when temps are generally going above
Zero C during Open hours, we would expect expanding
zones of softness to be noticeable, working upward from
the base level, and especially on the more direct sun-facing
Versant Sud/South sectors.

Today’s operative words should be “Fun” “Fast” and “Forgiving”,
where the forgiving part comes from the softness of rising temps,
the fast part comes from the residual chill in the hill, i.e. the cool
base that does not have any level of saturation, and the fun part
comes from explorations of the vast expanses of universal quality
over the entire groomed trail network.
