T360 Late Night Apres Ski Edit, Under Progressive Assembly At 10:21 P.M.

Here’s a performance sample. We did “this", pretty much all day.

As you can see, there were periods of intense snowfall.
These snowfall periods were not all day, but they were
often enough and had sufficient volume to make a
noticeable difference to the square area of smooth, soft
trail surfaces.

What you see above was typical of even the wide open trails,
really useful, high speed traction for Experts, soft enough
to be forgiving for Intermediates, yet not so thick to be
overwhelming for Beginners.

Being so snowy, the ambient light is grey and of very low contrast
so bright colours of fun immediately jump out.

Interesting chair lift story with this one below...

It’s not a fancy action shot, but it’s a prime example of how you
meet people from around the world here at Tremblant, every day.

From Hong Kong and Singapore, training in Surgical Residency in Dublin,
Ireland, skiing and visiting with the Fiancee’s parents here at Tremblant.

The informed snowfall outlook is that for the bulk of
what we should get, it may be overnight. It is snowing
with modest accumulations right now, so if it stays
steady all night it may amount to forecasts?

We actually had snow movement(you notice we don’t say
snowfall), yesterday, because the East wind was forceful
enough to cause the closure of the Versant Sud/South side
lifts for most of Open hours. Everything did reopen in the
late afternoon, but the very vigorous wind was literally
pushing snow from Versant Nord/North, over the top of
the Mountain to end up drifting onto the upper portions
of Versant Sud/South.

In this shot below, featuring team members from the Adanac
Ski Club in Sudbury, Ontario, the snow dust so obviously in
motion is being propelled fro right-to-left at a very high rate
of speed.

Down The Trail And Around The Corner...

The snow in the air in this one below is coming from behind
the photo, and blowing straight towards the lake. As the
contour of the Mountain descended from this point, it
left a continuous drift-over trail covering for several
hundred metres.

The forceful push of the wind felt like a giant hand shoving
you from behind and at -3C, the inherent firmness in the
base, plus gravity, plus the big wind push, and the total
speed sort-of felt like you were being shot out of a cannon.

Once the Sud/South Side reopened, we did a quick run on
Nansen Haut/Upper to see and confirm the quality of the
Green/Beginner terrain and we can tell you for a fact, it
was far calmer wind-wise, and the trail surfaces were very
close to flawless.

Weather Notes:

Estimates vary widely on the amount of snowfall we can
expect. The current forecast range is between 10 to 40 cm’s
which is statistically a crazy 400% difference. We do not
know, or possess any specific insight, other than the forecast
models for the Tremblant region have consistently been on
the upper scale of “30 ++ cm’s”. We can only hope.

Conditions Notes:

During any kind of big natural snowfall, it’s always fun
for Experts. Depending on the accumulation amounts,
it can be fun for Beginners and Intermediates too, however,
as the thickness/depth builds, so does the challenge.

Be careful in evolving snowfall depths that have a very
high probability of noticeable wind-shaping over the
Mountains conical rise, as well as over individual contours.

This is exactly the kind of dynamic scenario where you
can not assume things will be the same from one hour
to the next. You need to be observant, and be able to
modify your technique for potentially highly variable
surfaces that can evolve quickly with any rapid increase
in snowfall.
