12/17/22 #Tremblant Conditions

T360 Late Eve. Apres Ski Edit, Under Construction At 9:57 P.M.
We Are Getting The Snow We Need.
It was pretty much like this all day long, everywhere.
12.17.22.Nord.North.Expo.Quad.Peak.At.Vanier.Snowy.POV.c.jpg
Today’s snow is heavier/thicker with more internal humidity
compared to yesterday’s snow, so there was a small degree
of perceptible friction in it, but all that did was make steeper
pitches easier.
This new snow is what we might call “Construction Grade”,
very packable, very dense, very durable and we think
it is going to be a major asset to trail quality as it becomes
part of the strata over the softer stuff that fell yesterday, and
ultimately, gets integrated in the grooming process.
12.17.22.Summit.Views.Weather.Conditions.Observations.At.Ski.Patrol.HQ.c.jpg
It snowed everywhere, and on top of that there was very little wind
so it was coming straight down and not hardly a single snowflake
got moved off the trails it very evenly coated. The lateral grip is
amazing. It was enough to generate a fair degree of mogul creation,
plus there were some washboard zones in some tight corridors like
the narrowest part of La Crete, but everything was soft, so if you
kept reduced speed, easy enough to handle.
The night-shift grooming should take care of it and with the
attendance that is typically lighter on Sunday’s, we think
tomorrow could be a really sweet day for high performance
carving.

the other dates for this season in our orig. post below.
Put them on your calendar now so you don’t forget.

39(*) Open Trails On Sud/South And Nord/North Sectors At #Tremblant .
Here’s What Your Friends At Tremblant Have Been Up To...
Same Skier In A 3 Shot Approaching Sequence On
The Very Snowy, Very Fine, Very Fast, Super Fun Slopes Of
Versant Sud/South Side Trail # 8, Beauvallon Haut/Upper.
12.16.22.Sud.South.Beauvallon.Haut.Upper.Weather.Performance.Observations.b.jpg
12.16.22.Sud.South.Beauvallon.Haut.Upper.Weather.Performance.Observations.c.jpg
12.16.22.Sud.South.Beauvallon.Haut.Upper.Weather.Performance.Observations.d.jpg
Wonderfully Fast Performance In Loads Of Thickly Falling Fresh Snow.
Photography was a bit of a challenge, but for exactly the
right reasons as obscured, low contrast, burry images in
a full-on snow-storm are what we call a “Happy Problem”.
We were overjoyed to be able to capture the essence
of the current Tremblant performance experience with
this picture progression on Beauvallon, just above the
final pitch to the Alpine Park.
Up to last run, the new snow was not nearly as heavy as
we thought it might be considering the temps so close
to Zero C. It was light, fluffy, and very capable of immense
edge hold, but with very little forward friction, so nearly ideal.
The Summit stayed very stably cool at -4/-5 C, and Sud/South
base levels may have momentarily touched Zero C, but there
was no evidence of thaw anywhere within the the local villages.
We expect similar conditions for the entire day, today.
Overrun By Racers!
There are hundreds of Racer Kidz...
12.15.22.Nord.North.Sissy.Schuss.Haut.Upper.At.Gagnon.Side.Door.Racers.Ready.c.jpg
They are like roaming packs of snow-wolves, they can
be found lurking in big groups trail-side, or cruising
around through the parks, as well as on their designated
training trails that are otherwise closed to the public.
12.15.22.Nord.North.Sissy.Schuss.Airborne.Racers.f.jpg
This is a very common phenomenon at Tremblant as teams
from as far as a thousand kilometres away can be found
migrating to the absolutely most reliable East Coast slope
conditions for early season race training.
We find them inspiring because of the demonstrated efficiency
in race technique to deliver control and speed that has nearly
100% transferable benefit to recreational skiers. If you can copy
a racers form, you will be a very good skier. Please review the
top 3 picture sequence from Beauvallon in this post. The posture
and execution of technique displayed there could instantly be
put into any series of race gates at a winners level.
New Opening Terrain Development News:
In a racer related area, Tremblant is a significant player
in the hosting of regional competitions of all sorts and
disciplines, so we are glad to see terrain expansion that
is for racers because of the exceptional attention to trail
finishing detail that is required for safe racing.
Below is only one example of many, Versant Sud/South
Side trail # 18, McCulloch. The ultimate benefit to the
public is that after the hosted race event, this immaculate
surface is going to be opened to one and all and it will
be extraordinarily fine within the new seasons initial inventory.

IT’S SUPER DEMO DAYS!
A significant portion of the skiing public are on the wrong skis
due to the inability to test what you are buying, before you
buy them. Super Demo Days fixes that issue. We endorse,
encourage and enthusiastically urge you to participate in
this incredibly insightful opportunity. The only way you can
absolutely KNOW a ski is good for you is through a physical
test which you can not readily get at any “BIGBOX.Co” sporting
goods store.
Weather Notes:
To variable degrees of volume and intensity it has been
snowing at Tremblant for close to 24 hours and it is still
snowing now. It’s not always thick or heavy but even in the
lighter moments a wide dimensional range of flakes can be
detected drifting down.
It is not the big, big blizzard-like event the forecasts
suggested, however it is still a very meaningful addition
to the blended, groomed existing open terrain and it
definitely has added a new white winter blanket to the
appearance of the Mountain and surrounding community.
Conditions Notes:
The official overnight tally is at 12cm’s, so that’s just above the
upper limit(10cm’s) of what we consider to be the amount of
new snowfall that can be integrated in one overnight grooming
cycle. When compounded by the wind induced drifting factor,
it most likely means there will be zones with more, that may
remain soft and prone to mogul formations generated by traffic
flows, while there may be simultaneously frontal wind-facing
zones that have less retained and may eventually exhibit slick
bits beyond the initial freshness of first tracks grooming.
Make all initial descents at reduced speeds to confirm safe
descent, before you go ripping around. It is Saturday, i.e.
the weekend, and traffic may be an issue if there is a big
crowd out to take advantage of the new snow. It is still
limited early season open terrain, everyone has to share
between all skill levels so please be careful with speed in
mixed company.
Pace Yourself.
This is still the “First Day Out” for many recreational
skiers who are just now making their way to the slopes
and we have seen and met numerous first day folks recently,
complaining about sore muscles and lack of stamina.
Rome Was Not Built In A Day... it takes time to reactivate
ski-specific muscle function. No amount of summer fitness
can replicate the demands of skiing, so pace yourself on
these first days, you want a measured approach that will
balance enthusiasm with practical limits and recovery.
If you’re far away, anticipating your first days on the slopes,
the very best thing you can do to be ready, in our opinion,
is to do multiple sets of squats with very high repetition
numbers with relatively light weights. It’s not perfect, but
if you keep the range of motion limited to an upper posture
with 50, 60, 70 shallow dips, it’s just about as close as you
can get to a ski-like action. A couple of sets of dumbbells
that are heavy enough to be a reasonable weight challenge
on their own, are all you need to be able to do this effectively
and safely at home.
