77(*) Open Trails On All 4 Open Sectors At #Tremblant .

In Order To Make Sense Of It All...

Winter Storm “Elliott” needs to be put into historical
perspective in order to see the importance of where
we’re at in comparisons. Numerics become far more
relevant where differences show favour.

Last season was a statistical “Super Season” which
we define when the total snowfall received was in
excess of 20% or more over the 25 year average.
Specifically, it ended up at 129.411 % over that
25 year average(555cm’s over 425cm’s).

On the way to that, last year on this date we had
157cm’s of total snowfall, with 57(*) open trails,
and today, exactly one year later, we sit with 234cm’s
and 77(*) open trails, so from those perspectives, we
are way, way ahead of that most recent historic comparison.

It should be noted that this recent 4 day blizzard system
has been recorded within regional zones as the most
severe in overall effects/dimensions of “winter" since 1977.

“But...”

As you will see below, things are about to change...

Weather Notes:

We are very happy to see the continuation of cold
here for today because it is going to facilitate a deeper
penetration of ambient chill into the lofty substrates,
all the way into the Mountain itself, so when the warmth
of this next cycle hits, there is going to be a totally effective
thermal barrier, i.e., an insulation blanket, over the entire
Mountain’s trail network.

We think the insulating effect should easily span the
whole warm bit, and furthermore, at these low “+” values
forecasted for Sud/South ground levels, there’s a quite
good chance that cooler Mountain elevations could remain
sub-zero C the whole way through. We could be wrong,
but even if there is a wee thermal burp, it should be short,
and it may simply help to settle the deep snow right in place.

Conditions Notes:

Notwithstanding the Official 20cm’s of the last 24hrs,
which is going to have it’s own softness for a day or two...
Substantially increased scope of refinement across the
range of freshly groomed open terrain where another
night-shift will have improved the compacted density
of all the initial new snow(over a metre), that came so
suddenly.

For Beginners and Intermediates, this should mean less
tendency for lofty softness that can generate traffic induced
moguls or washboard effect within the Green terrain, but...
It is highly likely that pervasive softness and traffic generated
bumps are going to evolve on a daily basis for at least the
next couple of days until the combination of grooming and
a bit of warmth work to yield more stable density in the
finished top layers.

Of course, there’s no such thing as “Too Much Snow”
at a Ski Resort, however there is definitely such a thing
as too much snow to process in a day, or even 2 or 3
days, so we are at a stage where there will be positive,
incremental consolidations evident every single morning.

In the Sous Bois/Hors Piste/Glades and Un-Groomed
categories, there has been an instant elevation in
excellent early season conditions, but we are not
yet at fully mature winter depths even now, so there
can be a wide range of a la Carte conditions that are
a product of the drifting characteristics over the course
of the 180 degrees of rotation in wind direction that
occurred with the storm.

Repeat:
It should be noted that this recent 4 day blizzard system
has been recorded within regional zones as the most
severe in overall dimensions of “winter" since 1977.

We would encourage all Tremblant guests to have patience
while Mountain Crews process all the new snow over the
course of the next few days.
