Perspectives...

The “Big One” Snow Storm System,
December 22/23/24/25, 2022

72 hours ago, we had 93cm’s on the ground, now we have 201cm’s,
That’s HUGE!!!!

A year ago, we had 151 cm’s, so we have almost instantly jumped
way ahead.

It Will Take Several Days, maybe 4, 5, or 6, to fully assimilate
all this sudden new snow into the groomed trail network to
fully optimized rates of compaction where the natural deposits
are deepest.

Over one Metre, i.e., close to 4 feet of snow in 72 hours is
just about a month’s worth of snow in 3 days. That level of
abundance favours those with Expert skills, not to mention
top level athletic muscle mass and endurance because thick,
heavy snowfall takes a lot of sustained energy to navigate for
hours and hours of a full days effort.

However...

Mountain Crews will prioritize Green/Beginner terrain so there
is sufficient support for those who need it most.

“The Big One” Storm Reference Perspectives:

Over 300 Million North American Residents Affected By This System.

Locally, Tremblant lost portions of the power grid
for over 24 hours.

This will take a week for local civic infrastructure to clear.

In almost every regard of Human outdoor activity,
patience will be required as everyone does their
best to cope with an extraordinary amount of snow
arriving so suddenly.

Conditions Notes:

Due to the weather being the news, the previously
discussed concept that very deep, fresh new snow
favours Expert skills has to be the top consideration
for todays conditions.

Beginners and Intermediates will want to default to
lesser challenge for all initial explorations, and only
when safe passage can be confirmed, should they
begin to range outward.

It is highly probable that everything will exhibit softness
and tendencies to build moguls. Over a metre of new snow
in 4 days of continuous precipitation is not yet even close
to ideal compaction in the groomed terrain, so you may
not assume that conditions you experience this morning
will be the same this afternoon.

Due to the extra energy that is commonly required for
thicker snow, it is wise to pace yourself and be very aware
of personal muscle reserves that can be pushed to the
limit of safe reliability. We specifically say safe reliability
because fatigue and consequent loss of control can have
a very sudden onset that may not be fully anticipated.

For Legitimate Experts:

The Bushwhacker Sous Bois/Hors Piste/Un-Groomed
fans will think that they have found Heaven has fallen
on Earth! To have Mother Nature descend over the
Mountain so abundantly is the suff of generational
story telling... “Do you remember “The Big One” of
X-Mass 2022?” They’ll be talking about this one for years...

That does not mean there will be zero hazards though,
all this huge snow has come over bare ground in some
zones, so there is still a need for exploratory caution,
it’s not the same thing as if it was February and we’d
gotten a metre over a 2 metre base.
