Mother Nature Sets The Stage For A Very Early,
But Very Common “January Thaw”.

Many regional areas, especially the more Southerly portions,
of Eastern North America are going to get a considerable
amount of rain, but as you’ll see below, at Tremblant we
don’t think it’s going to be as severe or damaging because
5 to 10 C warmer than average is still cool enough to be just
Sub-Zero C at the Summit.

It could even be argued that compared to the -30C’s of the
Polar Vortex we can sometimes experience in early winter,
this very common “January Thaw” warm weather cycle is a lot
easier to take. “Spring Skiing” in January!

Weather Notes:

It could be a lot worse. Yesterday did see rainy bits, but they
were primarily in the late morning and after lunch hour, the
Mountain was foggy, for sure, but “dry”, so-to-speak, and
the skiing was very fine.

The time segments of wet/dry may be similar today, but we
do expect the possibility of a profile where portions of afternoon
open hours maybe, could be, theoretically, also be dry?

We could be wrong...

Conditions Notes:

Very, very Spring-Like, however we think that the
future retrospective on this warm event will be a
mechanical consolidation of the groomed trails that
since the big, big 1.5 metres of Winter Storm Elliot,
has been prone to softness and bump-building.

There’s nothing like a little warm/wet burp to
cause the density of the groomed trail network
to immediately increase. Combined with the
smoothness that grooming should render over
the entire range of indicated trails, we think there
should be a very noticeable stabilization in all
day mogul resistance.

In the Sous Bois/Hors Piste/Glades/Un-Groomed...
a completely different story where heat and wet
generate very thick navigation of highly elevated
challenge. A look at the Official Open trails shows
the Edge Sector off-line today as an example of
restrictions in access to this category.

:) Bring Back The Memories... Research Future Visits...
If you would like to look up dates you visited Tremblant, or you
want to research days/weeks/months to visit, you can sample what
they look like historically, month by month, year by year.

When reviewing dates from any of the past, numbered, archived pages,
you can use the "Previous Topic" or "Next Topic" buttons, located
screen far right, in upper date/message bar to scroll through sequential
dates, or use your browsers "back" button to stay on the selected index
page for non-sequential date reviews in either forward or reverse order.

There are approximately 6, 25 day Index pages per season.

( If you "Bookmark" the link above, it will always take you to the
First index page with the latest posts. That gives you an immediate,
current to 25 day past, review scroll of Winter Alpine Conditions by
consecutive date.
