It may be on limited early season terrain,
however for the most part, it’s....

Smooth, Fast, And Really Quite Good.

This Is How It’s Been,
And This Is How It’s Likely To Be...

Until We Get Some Bigger Amounts Of
Additional New Snowfall.

Weather Notes:

We can only hope there’s a bit of intensity in the snowy
periods today because it seems like we’re switching from
overcast to primarily sunny for a week?

This 14 day model shows a couple of definite cooler trends
so at least there should be a fair degree of stability in
the open terrain, however the new snow is likely to be
of the manufactured variety during the immediate future.

Conditions Notes:

Notwithstanding that for the most part, groomed
conditions are smooth fast and really quite good...
The all-day durability of groomed conditions is a direct
function of combined traffic and skill level sharing as
concentrations of volume can produce fairly quickly
evolving bump developments that are sensitive to
mixed skills in the zones of highest traffic numbers.
There is often less predictability in the bump spacing
where the range of skill sharing is greatest, so it is
necessary to keep speeds down in much of the Green
and Blue terrain for at least two reasons.

1) Safety. There are a lot of Beginners and they descend
at very slow speeds, often with sudden or very short
radius directional changes that sometimes are at 90 degrees
to the fall line. Too much speed combined with descent in
zones populated by unpredictable moving objects is a recipe
for impacts.

2) Safety. The evolving bumps are a variable combination
of both typical round moguls and linear washboard effect,
so with the dull, low contrast ambient light of an overcast
day that obscures detail in a field of overwhelming snow
white, too much speed eliminates safe reaction time to
properly absorb or navigate random bumps of unpredictable
proximity.

As we have stated in previous days, there are actually some
lesser traveled Expert sectors with both smoother and more
symmetrical all-day conditions just because they do not
have the stress of very slow speed mixed skills users that
sometimes grind out very close, very random, bump patterns.

However... “Smoother" is still legitimate Expert skills required
because some of the steeper sections are prone to side-slipped
scraping, right down to the firm base and the odd icy bit, so
another case of absolute speed control with a high emphasis
on technical execution as well as technical gear condition too.

Sharp, well and recently tuned edges are essential
in all Black/Expert open terrain.

In the Sous Bois/Hors Piste/Glades and Un-Groomed Expert
categories, even though the entire Edge Sector is off-line,
any day when you see trail # 66, Versant Nord/North Side
“Le Tunnel” on progressive opening, you know there is some
hope for genuine, legitimate, Expert, Bushwhackers. This zone
was one of the areas that got huge drifting during the big
Blizzard of winter storm Elliot and we can tell you for a fact
that even after the subsequent rainy and warm bits, there are
still ambient snowpack depths of well over a metre within the
range of this specific zones localized contours.

Summary:
It’s the “Holidays”, it could be busy. There can be periods
of heavy traffic and the open terrain is limited, so please,
be patient and take care within all shared space when and
where there are guest population concentrations.

The bottom lines are that all things considered,
there’s loads of great skiing, however there is a
necessary emphasis on technical skill elements, in
addition to well tuned technical gear requirements.
