1/17/23 #Tremblant Conditions

T360 Late Eve. Apres Ski Edit, Under Construct @ 10:21 P.M.

To begin with, it was sunny, it was also one of the largest
temperature inversions to the Summit that we think we’ve
ever seen. There were times that the Summit temps were
indicated at +17 C warmer that the Sud/South Base.

We were actually happy to see the clouds creep over the Mountain
as they were a totally effective umbrella that prevented intense
solar energy from initiating thaw, so we squeaked by with winter
snow all day.

Another technically excellent front-side groomed carving day.
All the performance we were forecasting and expecting, was
present across the range of skill level groomed terrain.

Read through the orig. post below, we stand by that as
a fair assessment and... with the weather forecast profile
across the overnight hours staying a bit on the warm side
but still below Zero C, we think tomorrow should be equally
as fine due to the thermal momentum retained in the cold
mass of the Mountain.

You really want to try to get to Tremblant,
right now if you can, because within the
open groomed trail array...

Average Is Excellent!

Conditions Notes:

In The Open, Groomed Array:

This is the common experience across the entire
range of open freshly groomed trails, and it lasts all day.

Smooth, easy and fast.

Here below is a detailed look at the groomed snow
surfaces and while this specific sample was from
Nord/North Duncan, mid, at the Vanier plateau, it
could have been from anywhere within the groomed
Mountain footprint because it was all the same excellent
smoothness and near ideal compaction.

What you are looking at below are what we refer to
as the “Shear Properties” of the compacted, groomed
trail surfaces, where the density from below has a very
low friction top layer that “Shears” when subjected to lateral
turning force by the edges of skis or board. Each one of
those wafer-like shapes is almost as thin as as single snow
crystal, but with the surface area of thousands, and in effect,
they are all acting as billions and billions of tiny ball bearings.

Despite the considerable degree of daily temperature
rise and warming, the deeply cool overnights are wrapping
the entire Mountain with a cryogenic blanket and this is
literally leaving us with the best of both worlds as we
have 100% of the performance from the very cool snow,
simultaneously with the solar generated daytime warmth
of the cloudless sky.

Look back up at the Beauvallon sample again, you will
not see 1 oz. of “Shred” in the air, it is all light, dry, snow
dust trailing the moving skier and right now that equates
to a very silky, seamless feel underfoot that is universal.

In the Sous Bois/Hors Piste/Glades and Un-Groomed:

To be completely objective...

This trail category has a far more 'a la Carte scenario.

There are some zone of excellence, there are some very
marginal conditions. When the open trail number dropped
yesterday, it was this group that took the hit.

It is important to note that there are Expert Bushwhackers
who prefer their conditions in a “Raw” format, and at this
stage, it is fair to say they have a fair selection that should
suit their taste for challenge.
