And Now For Something Completely Different...

“Welcome To The Scene Of A Murder.”

(Visible under the Duncan Quad, just below
the Vanier pass-over.)

Mother Nature can be brutal by civilized human
practice and what you are looking at below is
a “Murder” in the sense that it is either a Hawk
or a large Owl strike on a small rodent or mammal
where the bird of prey has captured and carried off
a meal, at the expense of the life of the smaller
creature. You can see the “fingerprint” in this case
literally a “Wing-Print” where the bird flew into the snow
at attack speed from above leaving not only the
wing-print(s), but the evidence of the struggle and
the abduction as well. There is no blood, so the
likelihood is that the prey was carried off to be
consumed in a more secure location. We suspect
the victim is either a squirrel or a snowshoe rabbit
as they both have abundant populations in this sector
of the Mountain. The span of the most symmetrical
part of the arch’d wing-print is well over a metre, so it’s
a genuinely big bird considering what the wing-span
would be fully outstretched.

Conditions Notes:

In the Experts Sous Bois/Hors Piste/Glades and Un-Groomed:

The big snow of last week has settled under its own weight,
however and amazingly, there are still untracked powder zones
that have over a metre of free and undisturbed depths.

The forest debris you see is from the breezes bending
the trees around and knocking off bits of bark, loose twigs
and coniferous needles, plus... those forest bits accumulate
on the surface because they don’t melt when the snow does.
They are all very soft and clean and they do not affect gear
or any aspect of Sous Bois performance.

We would say that it is the non Sous Bois, Un-groomed
trails that have seen the most depletion in raw snow
depths and consequent increase in hazard exposure.
Caution with very slow speeds is essential for safe navigation
on this group of runs because they are getting skied
out, and some of the hazards are not easily visible from
above, so you need to be extremely careful to reduce risk.

In The Groomed Terrain:

Across all respective skill levels there are hundreds of acres
and we dare say somewhere over 100 kilometres of very, very
fine to excellent trails.

For Beginners and Intermediates, smoothness, quickness
and high levels of forgiveness have meant for very easy
and accommodating conditions for practice and skill
development.

The front-side carving performance has been superb for
days on end and with days full of near endless runs, this
has been a period of outstanding fitness skiing where
you run out of muscle way before you run out of Tremblant.

:) Bring Back The Memories... Research Future Visits...
If you would like to look up dates you visited Tremblant, or you
want to research days/weeks/months to visit, you can sample what
they look like historically, month by month, year by year.

When reviewing dates from any of the past, numbered, archived pages,
you can use the "Previous Topic" or "Next Topic" buttons, located
screen far right, in upper date/message bar to scroll through sequential
dates, or use your browsers "back" button to stay on the selected index
page for non-sequential date reviews in either forward or reverse order.

There are approximately 6, 25 day Index pages per season.

( If you "Bookmark" the link above, it will always take you to the
First index page with the latest posts. That gives you an immediate,
current to 25 day past, review scroll of Winter Alpine Conditions by
consecutive date.
