T360 Early Evening Apres Ski Edit, Under Construction At 7:49 P.M.

The sunshine and the new snowfall helped to
synergistically improve the groomed trail inventory.

Eventually, the combination of solar energy and
the proximity of temps to zero C made for an
ever-so-slight softening on some of the direct
sun facing Versant Sud/South Side trails.

Genuine, Authentic, BlacK Diamond Expert Terrain.

We have extensively discussed the specific challenges of the
un-groomed Expert terrain and this is a classic example below
of exactly those conditions.

It should be noted that typically these Versant Nord/North Side
trails, #’s 64, 65, 66 do get groomed at some point just over the
300 cm’s total accumulation mark. At that stage, when smooth and
levelled, the range of skill level applicability expands to include
confident Intermediates even though they remain technically “Black”,
so keep an eye out for those icons on the Trail Status graphic.

If the concept of “Potential” meant anything to you today...

Then consider this for tomorrow:

If you are Regional Tremblant Fan from say Ottawa, with
discretionary planning flexibility who could go tomorrow,
you should already have your skis securely loaded into
the vehicle tonight.

We think it’s guuna' be great!

After yesterday’s Mother Nature foggy and somewhat damp
snowfall, today should seem like a far different and more user
friendly experience with the addition of 7 cm’s groomed in,
and open hours featuring a sunny outlook.

Conditions Notes:

In the Groomed array, and across all skill levels:

Due to the high levels of internal humidity in the
new snowfall, we would call it a potentially “Construction
Grade” addition, where freshly groomed into the base.

Consequently, there could be some truly extraordinary
and very fine trail finishes in the integrated outcome.
We also think there is a very high probability of very
durable all-day smoothness because it is not only the
benefit of grooming over new snow, but with lighter
workday/workweek attendance there is just not the
same wear/use patterns that the busy weekends can have.

In The Sous Bois/Hors Piste/Glades and Un-Groomed:

The snowfall was at times quite heavy and because there
was not much wind, the distribution occurred fairly evenly
over all 4 corners of the Mountain footprint so we think
you’ll find this new addition puts a fresh topcoat on almost
everything.

The most sensitive group of trails in the Experts Black
Diamond category are the open piste Un-Groomed so
this is where the most care may be required. The Ski
Patrol have clearly marked difficulty zones with hand
posted signage and it should be taken seriously by all
who consider descents over raw terrain.

It should be noted that there are 2 main types of Expert
open piste Un-Groomed that are substantially different
in character though, one type being completely natural
snowfall only, such as examples like Marie Claude Asselin,
and Banzai(above), Versant Nord/North trails # 64 and 65
respectively, and those with unprocessed big bump snowmaking
coverage such as Zig-Zag and Vertige(below), Versant Sud/South
trails # 14 and 13 respectively. The challenges are quite a bit
different but both require highly refined Expert technical skills
and tuned gear to safely navigate.

The reference to tuned gear above leads us to the reference below...

We had sort of a minor rant in last night’s Apres Ski
regarding some chairlift feedback yesterday about icy
bits that we think were unfair because at the same
time as the comments were being made, the commenters
could not identify the last time they had their skis tuned.

Icy bits may exist at any Ski Resort, it’s a sport that relies
on Mother Nature who is not always perfectly cooperative...

That leads us to a main conditions recommendation which
is that for all skill levels, a good set of fresh edges is a
primary asset. Lateral grip retention is so much more
reliable with the mechanical advantage of recent tuning
and with that advantage, perceptions of icy just about
disappear because in most cases the firm bits are simply
very densely compacted snow that can seem slick with
worn, rounded off dullness underfoot.

If you would like to look up dates you visited Tremblant, or you
want to research days/weeks/months to visit, you can sample what
they look like historically, month by month, year by year.

When reviewing dates from any of the past, numbered, archived pages,
you can use the "Previous Topic" or "Next Topic" buttons, located
screen far right, in upper date/message bar to scroll through sequential
dates, or use your browsers "back" button to stay on the selected index
page for non-sequential date reviews in either forward or reverse order.

There are approximately 6, 25 day Index pages per season.

( If you "Bookmark" the link above, it will always take you to the
First index page with the latest posts. That gives you an immediate,
current to 25 day past, review scroll of Winter Alpine Conditions by
consecutive date.
