After literally months of development work, Mountain
Crews are gradually achieving mature seasonal levels
of complete finishing. As a very obvious sample, the
big bumps that have been evident on Johannsen for
weeks, are finally fully integrated into a smoothly
groomed trail surface.

Weather Notes:

Thank goodness there’s no wind. If the hourly forecast
holds true, there should be a fairly rapid increase in
user friendly, but it is still very cold to begin with and
that means you’re going to be getting out all those
layers from the far corners of your kit bag.

There is another option, sleep in, have brunch, skip
lunch and ski the warm hours.

Part of what you can see here blow is the wavy
nature of the front of the cold air masses proceeding
the actual arrival of the Polar Vortex. As the pattern
moves from West To East you can see that the Southern
edge of cool goes up/down this week, giving us 2 relatively
warm days on Wed./Thurs., before the cold really settles in
over Friday and Saturday.

Conditions Notes:

For today, February 1, 2023:

In The Freshly Groomed Array:

Very near ideal compaction and overall consistency
across the entire range of skill levels with all day
mogul resistant smoothness. Wide ranging excellence
and virtually seamless continuity within the connections
of the groomed network offer substantial potential for
learning advancement with a high degree of forgiveness
in escalating challenge.

In the Sous Bois/Hors Piste/Glades And Un-Groomed:

Highly individualistic from fantastic to raw with an
absolute requirement for genuine, authentic, Expert
skills and focused, low speed care in initial explorations
in order to confirm safe passage.
