3/12/23 #Tremblant Conditions

T360 Apres Midnight Apres Ski Edit @ 12:33 A.M.

It was a gorgeous Sunday with a 75% Winter and 25 % Spring
split of conditions overall, and notwithstanding that within
those estimated percentages, some of them were zones, and
some of them were mixed within descent paths.

Somewhat oddly, beyond the fact that where the
conditions were spring-like, mostly on Versant Sud
South Side and Soleil, or mostly winter-like, Versant
Nord/North, there were actually bits of both mixed
up in ways you would not have expected.

The first is some soft Spring shred which you can clearly
see in the air behind this skier on the Expo Pitch.

The second, below, is some snow-dusty winter on
Nansen Bas/Lower. In both cases above and below,
there were conditions opposite to the primary sector
trends of spring@Sud, and winter@Nord, within those
sectors, so it was a noticeably mixed up day that could
not be completely said to be one or the other in any
given sector absolutely.

It is our opinion that this is what could be attributed to
temps that were just floating around zero C, combined
with gentle breezes that in some cases at cooler elevations,
were washing down from colder air masses above the
Mountain and keeping things chilled to point that the
sun was not able to build enough heat to thaw much
of anything. There were some icy bits, like a little group
on McCulloch Haut/Upper, but they tended to run in packs,
so were you found them was mostly localized and therefore
not hard to get around or by.

It was totally fun, and totally beautiful and we were surprised
that it was not that heavily crowded either. Busy, for sure, but
not crazy busy and most lifts were within 8 min's or less, many
with ski-on singles, some ski-on groups.

Tomorrow should be even lighter traffic, but it is Ontario
March break, so there should be an enthusiastic group out
for that.

There is snow in the forecast for tomorrow, it will be
greatly appreciated. Not sure how much, but they do
say it may be a bit damp, so it should make for a nice
cushion, as well as a welcome addition to the groomed
strata.

If learning how to Ski or Snowboard is your objective, there
is no finer place in Eastern North America, arguably in the
known Ski World, than all 6 kilometres of Nansen, on Versant
Sud, the South Side at Tremblant. It is a World Class benchmark
of daily reliability for consistent smoothness and easy, gentle,
forgiving condition.

If you are a World Cup level athlete, there is no finer place
than Nansen to take a relaxing cruise to focus on finesse
than all 6 kilometres of Nansen. We can tell you for a fact
that when there is safe space, a run on Nansen in Slalom
carving mode with a pair of 12 Metre radius skis will even
turn your Quads into jello, without any reckless speed, simply
because it will take about 200 turns to make one descent.

Either way, Nansen is a jewel in the crown of Tremblant and
it is a prime example of the excellence you will find across
all skill levels, on an overall basis, here today.

Weather Notes:

Daylight Savings “Spring Ahead” 1 Hr. Time Advance Change Today.

If today is anything like yesterday, the forecast high may be
blown away in a similar manner. The forecast high of +1 C
ended up at +8 C which is a huge thermal difference, even
with the elevation differential, that burped the Summit up to
the + 1C mark for a handful of hours.

We think that could be a very real possibility for today as well.

Conditions Notes:

In the Groomed:

The whole Mountain got up to between +8 C warm and just a
touch of +1 C warm yesterday and then back down to as cool
as -12 C overnight.

This tells you that because the “Laws Of Physics” apply, what
was warmed to soft, is initially going to be froze to solid.

There are two mitigating factors:

1) Everything freshly groomed will be default smooth. No matter
what Mother Nature does with the temps, smooth makes everything
else easier to deal with.

2) It is very early morning temporary. As the sun rises and radiant
thermal energy builds, surface conditions will quickly evolve, starting
on the Soleil and Taschereau quadrant, but eventually the real softness
becomes most evident over the Versant Sud/South Side lower sectors.

Versant Nord/North Side and Edge sectors should retain the longest
winter-like conditions of the day, however there is going to be a direct
correlation to the daily high temp that will determine how far into the
“Spring Zone” the Nord/North sectors get. It is equally as possible that
it could be all day firm, or end up semi-soft in our opinion.

In any event, ski/board edge tuned quality will be your best friend,
your most beneficial asset, the most effective leverage(literally), in
dealing with any and all evolving solid-to-soft variability in groomed
surfaces today.

In the Sous Bois/Hors Piste/Glades and Un-Groomed:

Repeat from yesterday:

Continued a la Carte, very individual characteristics
with highly variable challenge and hazard possible
within any descent path.

There are zones of very raw, and there are zones of
really excellent.

Explore carefully, observe patterns and be aware that
weekend traffic will likely influence conditions over
a days use.

Most Likely To Retain “Winter”...
