102/102(*) Open Trails.

First Official Full Day Of Full Mountain Open @ 102/102 Trails!

It’s overcast, but for detail included in Weather Notes below
we’re totally O.K. with that.

Please Note: Due to a kind T360 Fan, all our pic’s
this morning are live, First Tracks iPhone images.

Weather Notes:

At any temps close to Zero C, we’re thrilled to have
overcast because it means the snow surfaces are
not going to get sun-baked thermal effect that
not only causes thaw, but leaves some zones
prone to developing future icy bits.

We think the light rainy bit icons may be of little
or no consequence over the Mountain as this
forecast profile usually means small bands of
active weather that transit quickly, over mostly
ground levels, while elevations with a low cloud
ceiling commonly may be anything between clear
or foggy, but stay dry.

These two pic’s below are a pretty good illustration of
this mornings Weather Notes reference:

Conditions Notes:

It’s Sunday, it could be busy, but as frequent readers here
will know, Sunday typically sees a rapidly diminishing
crowd just after the lunch hour as regional commuters
seem anxious to get a head start on the race back to “Theirville”.

In The Groomed:

If we are right on that...
Just as typically, Sunday afternoon is a wonderful opportunity
to cruise the Mountain with a fraction of the traffic for what
is usually a very relaxed atmosphere within the magnificently
prepared trail groomed inventory which as of today, is fully
open for the first time this season.

We are forecasting you’ll find a very high level of groomed
refinement with close to seamless transition between Green,
Blue and Black rated challenge for first tracks, and if we are
right about the having a light afternoon crowd, there should
be all-day durability as the traffic load will be spread out so
much that the overall wear stress may be minimal.

We could be wrong, maybe everyone will come to their
senses and stay till Last Run... maybe...

In The Sous Bois/Hors Piste/Glades And Un-Groomed:

Continued with highly variable/a la carte conditions
that are primarily excellent, but do have localized
zones of hazard or challenge where the Ski Patrol
have hand posted cautionary or warning notices
that must be taken with serious respect.

The recent closeness to Zero C has caused the
snow in the Sous Bois group to become more
dense in the top layers so tracking has generated
some zones of irregular forward resistance that
needs a low, compact stance in order to compensate
for unexpected thickness that wants to act as an
immediate brake.

Please Note: First Weekend Of Season With Last Run @ 3:45 P.M.
