100/102(*) Open Trails.

Decisions, Decisions... So Many Decisions...

And They’re All Great!

Today we take a closer sample view of Versant Sud/South
Side Trail # 8, Beauvallon Haut/Upper, a principle Summit
originated boulevard that connects to #32, Beauvallon
Bas/Lower at the TGV Quad base.

Over the course of the last weekend’s busy traffic
this was one of the evolved bumpy bits that got
completely rendered smooth overnight and what
a profoundly positive difference that made.

There is now a wall-to-wall super smooth descent
that is almost magically transformed into a user
friendly zone that is shared by aspiring Intermediates
and Experts alike. There is enough pitch here that
speed control is required at all times. Beauvallon
Haut/Upper is one of those trails that because it
is so wide, looks relatively gentle from the top,
but once on your path down, it quickly becomes
evident that gravity can generate big, big speed
in a hurry.

Grip And Rip...

There are a very few, small slick bits that are
not icy, just very dense snow, packed by
many, many grooming cycles and polished
or scraped by combined ski/snowboard
traffic so well tuned edges are your best
friends for optimized speed with safety, and...

When you have those well tuned edges, you
can literally stand on them sideways with
tremendous lateral grip as this shot below
illustrates.

Beauvallon is only one example of dozens
and dozens of similar very well refined
groomed runs that offer spectacular high
performance capabilities for those with
the technique and appropriately prepared
equipment on the Expert end of the skills
scale, while simultaneously offering
aspiring Intermediates a fantastic learning
opportunity over a very forgiving wide open
space that’s just plain easy to work with.

Conditions Notes:

In The Groomed:

There could be a bit of a mix of surfaces, especially
on the Versant Sud/South Side and Soleil sector
slopes as a consequence of a brief exposure to
heat from ambient air temps at the freezing mark
combined with the intensity of the solar energy
that peaked in mid-afternoon.

There is a very good chance that with grooming
those effects could be largely rendered out, but
they may become more evident with afternoon
traffic wear, so just be sensitive to what’s under
your skis/board and explore at moderate speeds
to see if any patterns emerge that can be applied
to overall safety awareness.

We do expect the vast majority of surfaces to be
fantastic as they have been for days and weeks,
but the optimal consistency may be on the Nord,
North Side slopes where the sun does not have
anywhere close to the direct effects.

In The Sous Bois/Hors Piste/Glades And Un-Groomed:

Until we get more natural snowfall, this will
continue to be the most sensitive group where
a wide variety of Expert challenge can be found
that ranges from select excellence to very raw
with Ski Patrol hand posted signage.

All explorations need cautious, slow initial
evaluations and it is important to note that
some hazards are not visible from above.
Approaching any crests or in any large mogul
zones, absolute ability to instantly stop or
pivot at the top of any contour is essential
for personal and equipment safety.

Traffic could make differences to conditions
over the day so if you are blasting around,
do not assume that what it is this morning
will be the same this afternoon.

:) Bring Back The Memories... Research Future Visits...
If you would like to look up dates you visited Tremblant, or you
want to research days/weeks/months to visit, you can sample what
they look like historically, month by month, year by year.

When reviewing dates from any of the past, numbered, archived pages,
you can use the "Previous Topic" or "Next Topic" buttons, located
screen far right, in upper date/message bar to scroll through sequential
dates, or use your browsers "back" button to stay on the selected index
page for non-sequential date reviews in either forward or reverse order.

There are approximately 6, 25 day Index pages per season.

( If you “Bookmark" the link above, it will always take you to the
First index page with the latest posts. That gives you an immediate,
current to 25 day past, review scroll of Winter Alpine Conditions by
consecutive date.
