It was a wee bit foggy from time to time, and there
were some periodic vision issues with airborne
micro-mist on goggle lens, but overall still a fine
day of what we’d call good technical skiing/boarding.

We call it “Technical” because the combination of the
slight drop in temps was just enough to firm up the
base, so there was less in the depths of the soft top
layers, but with the dusting of new snow, enough to
have fun and control with carefully applied edging
skill at moderate speeds. More new snow, plus the
night-shift of grooming should take everything up
a couple of notches for today.

Weather Notes:

It says snowfall at around noon in the hourly, but we
can tell you for a fact that it’s been snowing at variable
intensities since just before 7:00 A.M.

Conditions Notes:

This could easily be like yesterday where there
were multiple status changes in the Official
Open Trail list. Check with Summit Info. Ski
for up-to-the-minute detail.

In The Groomed:

For today, we’re calling for an incremental increase in
the depths and scope of those soft top layers as that would
commonly be the product of the second night of grooming
refinement with temps at elevations back below Zero C.

There is good connectivity between groomed skill levels,
however the forgiveness is on the low side due to the
very firm base, so sticking with appropriately matched
challenge to actual skills will yield optimal fun and safety.

Sharp, recent fresh edges are an absolute asset. Without
good mechanical purchase on the firm base you’ll think
it’s slick or icy.

A bit of a wild card is the current active snow falling.
If it continues at the present rate it may be enough
to act as a constant refresh, however it’s still too
early to factor that as a dominant component today.
We’d be very happy to be wrong on that one!

In The Sous Bois/Hors Piste/Glades And Un-Groomed:

New snowfall definitely contributed to surfaces by adding
a cushion of soft, grippy dressing over the consolidated
base that is quite firm and very supportive underneath.

Overall there were mixed friction levels and we think
that could be a carry-over for today because the
atmospheric conditions are similar, so for all our
Snowboard friends, best to pump the board coming
off pitches or runouts to build speed and avoid
having to take a foot out.
