Conditions Notes:

In The Groomed:

A noticeable increase in all day mogul resistant smoothness
as a consequence of another night-shift grooming cycle after
the most recent big snow of yesterday. It is very typical for
lofty softness of a single big dump to be progressively packed
out over multiple grooming passes, especially when the snow
has been exposed to cold overnights. Without much in the way
of internal humidity, there’s far less adhesive bonding so the
only way you get density is by the kind of pressure that comes
from a 12,000 Lbs, machine repeatedly going across the surfaces.
That’s today.

In The Sous Bois/Hors Piste/Glades and Un-Groomed:

30cm’s of fresh snow that is well traveled by enthusiastic
Expert Sous Bois fans may exhibit choppy, chunky tendencies
and that usually means variable forward resistance through the
moguls and embankments generated across the range of
open Sous Bois terrain.

With over 300cm’s of so-far total seasonal snowfall we
are officially into what we call the maturity of seasonal
conditions that are very forgiving with minimal ground
exposed hazards. Trees don’t count as ground level, but
with too much speed in tight glades, they can definitely
be hazards if you can’t turn quickly enough, so the only
way to be safe is to keep the speed appropriate for avoiding
sudden encounters with vertical objects that don’t move.

For aspiring Sous Bois fans, better safe than sorry so while
these conditions are a fabulous learning opportunity, that
should only be undertaken with the utmost caution. Runaway
gravitational pull can happen really quick, especially if your ski
tips are under a foot of snow and you don’t have the muscle to
crank them around, so look before you leap and stop before you drop.
