We've been lucky to have been in attendance for the Taj Mahal trio and
various other first weekend performances and there's no doubt that this
years edition has the depth of talent that will rank it right up there with
the best of previous years.

Here are some samples of whats been going on over the last couple of
days, brought to you by Tremblant360's field reporters on site.

Rob Lutes, Bio courtesy of RobLutes.com
Rob Lutes is a soulful singer-songwriter from Montreal with an
ever-growing collection of literate, moving meditations on life and love.

His ability to encapsulate universal ideas and questions, even the subtle
ones, coupled with his gritty, heartfelt delivery and world-class
performance chops, have invited comparisons with several legends
in the roots genre from John Hiatt to Fred Eaglesmith.

“He will soon be counted amongst the ranks of the best in the industry,
a rare talent that keeps getting better with each project released” says
Hello Darlin’ Productions promoter Matt Large.

Greg Quill of the Toronto Star deemed Lutes' third CD, the 2007
studio effort Ride the Shadows “a brilliantly understated gem
distinguished by a warm and raspy voice, honest and eloquent lyrics,
and evocative acoustic guitar work…among the best of the year's
roots/blues crop.” The Ottawa Citizen named the CD “one of the
Top Ten in Canada for 2007”.

Following on the success of that work, which garnered a licensing
deal from Rounder Europe and a saw him tour internationally,
the former Kerrville New Folk songwriting winner went into the
studio in September 2008 to record his much-awaited fourth CD
with noted Boston-area producer David Goodrich (Chris Smither,
Peter Mulvey, Jeffrey Foucault). The result, the just-released CD
Truth & Fiction, is his most confident work to date.

Widely known for his inspiring and impassioned live performances.
Rob Lutes's live shows always feature extraordinary playing, some
improvisational magic and Lutes's intense, soulful vocals.

Suzie Vinnick, Bio excerpts from SuzieVinnick.com
After winning numerous awards for playing, singing and writing the blues,
Suzie Vinnick has finally put out a blues album under her own name. She
has been into the blues since her teens, and has been a perennial nominee
and six-time winner of the Canadian Maple Blues awards for her work with
such blues players as Rick Fines. And while she has three previous critically-
acclaimed folk-roots albums under her belt, including one that earned her
a 2009 Juno nomination, this is her first solo outing as a blues artist

The spotlight is on Suzie’s voice, which has received rave reviews from the
likes of Gordon Lightfoot to Stuart McLean, . Blessed with a huge range,
she can go from a sweet whisper to a growl in a heartbeat. Her singing
expresses all the emotions covered in the emotional blues lexicon. She
can be sexy, humorous, struttin’ her stuff, sassy or heartbroken. With
her impeccable sense of dynamics, Suzie’s voice commands attention.

Her guitar playing now and on her newest disc will surprise even some
of her longtime fans. Her percussive playing has the feel that elevates
a blues song from the mundane to the sublime, a sense of both melody
and rhythm you can’t learn at school.

Of course, many in attendance not only enjoy listening to the music,
but enjoy playing music themselves, so this pic featuring the equipment
used by the "David Gogo Band" will be of tremendous interest to all the
musician gear-heads who are fascinated by the way other artists make their
sounds. We can clearly see here a Gibson "Flying V" style guitar, various
Fender guitars, an iconic Hammond "B-3" with the one and only rotating
"Leslie" speaker, all of which represent much of the history of the
development of the "Blues" the way we know it.

Lord willing, more up-dates to follow, but in the mean-time...

If you're on vacation, or can wrangle a day or
two off, Tremblant's International Blues Festival is the
destination of any Blues Music Lover's choice until this
Sunday, July 17th.
