3/30/12 Tremblant Conditions

Post by T360 »

T360 Late, Late Night Apres Ski .... attached below in "Reply"

------------------- 7:28 A.M. Orig. Post -----------------------

21(*) Open Trails on the refreshed by a day and a half of
new snow, 2 sides of Tremblant.

Very nice to see that "Flying Mile" is back on-line, and...
still "Open" 'til 4:30!

They'll be a lot of Happy Campers on that one, anytime
this favourite of many is Open, there will be a steady
stream of riders headed in that direction.

Based on all the weather info. we have at this stage, we think
it will be an all-round brighter day than yesterday, but there may
be some cloud, maybe not, and even if, not the heavy dark looking
stuff that made some of yesterday's sky's look so ominous at times.
Daytime high at + 2C, but it feels cooler than that with a bit of breeze.

Yesterday was a day of awesome Tremblant views, no doubt about it.
Despite the fact that there are less trails open than we've either been
used to, or would like, the Open terrain is in phenomenal condition and
we've spent many happy hours doing full Summit to base laps of
seemingly endless high speed carving, to the point of having rubberized
quads at days end, but loving it just the same.

Try Cranking off these kinds of turns for 5 or so hours...
see what kind of muscle you've really got!

"Either been used to, or would like..." yes indeed, we did get quite used to
95 out of 95 Open trails, so it's not hard to understand why some may
feel the current Open list is somehow not enough.

Au Contraire' ....

Try thinking about it like this... of all the "Golfers" we know, a large
percentage of them have a membership and belong to a Golf Club at a
Golf Course. Quite a few of those are not only happy, but even brag
about getting to play two or three rounds a week, season after season.
Not uncommon and not surprising. 18 holes with a "Par" of whatever,
played over and over and they may be thrilled beyond description if they
have a round that beats their average score by one, let alone two or
three strokes.

So the reason we bring this up using this example is that we recently
got into a very friendly but heated debate on the way up in the Gondola
with one such Golfer we met who was lamenting the lack of open trails
and the boredom of repeat runs...

After asking a bit about his Golfing participation.....

Excuse mois ???? you've played on the same 18 holes, 3 times a week
for over a dozen years and your complaining about boredom????

Why is it that you can continue to find challenge on those same 18 holes
day after day, week after week, month after month and year after year,
but you get bored so quickly when we go from 95 Open trails down to
whatever?

The almost immediate response is "Well that's different... Wind, weather,
skills, the uniqueness of each shot and the feeling of accomplishment with
relative or steady improvement all contribute to both interest and the
desire to become better and that's enhanced by my intimate knowledge
of the course."

Duhhhhh.... couldn't you say the same thing about training runs/lapping
on such magnificent Open terrain as we have now at Tremblant???

On the basis of training, practice and the far greater than Golf, therapeutic
values of vigorous Alpine Skiing or Boarding, we respectfully submit that
the current Open terrain at Tremblant is far and away a more thrilling
and beneficial modality of exercise and fitness than any 18 holes will
ever be. Furthermore, the nuances that you claim to be able to use with
the intimate knowledge of that Golf Course membership you've had for
14 years, is no less applicable to the variations that each unique day on
the slopes of Tremblant can represent. A similar intimate knowledge
of any descent sequence will allow Skiers or Boarders of any skill level
to refine technique and improve along the same lines as getting a lower
score on the Golf Course.

There may be better ways to say it, but generally, it's the reason we're
happy to Ski Tremblant with any amount of Open terrain and it's the same
reason anyone else can have an excellent day at Tremblant too.

We know many a Golfer that is obsessed with getting in "One Last Round"
before the course is closed in the fall. Turn that around and apply the same
sentiment to the truly dedicated Skier or Boarder and you may have an idea
about why we're so keen on every single day we can be on the slopes right now.

Above, Below... The range of versatility that P'tit Bonheur has in terms of
directly applied skill levels is outstanding. With comparatively little user
traffic, very safe too. We did Power Carve laps here as above for over
an hour with most runs all to ourselves.

Please Note: We certainly don't mean any slight against Golf
in any of the above and we actually enjoy it from time to time. These
types of comparisons could be made between many "Sports"
and it just happened to be a catalyst for a point of "Gondola Debate"
because it was brought up by an avid Golfer who expressed
limited Spring Ski boredom while anxiously awaiting his Course to Open.
