Groomed Conditions:

It was a great day at Tremblant, however, there are a few icy bits
around the South Side on the first pitch of Beauvallon, the pitch below
the TGV base, and Johannsen. They are not huge, but if you thought
you could carve everything like yesterday, you could take a short flight
off track with not much to grip to.... and we have tuned edges.

For everything else it was just like yesterday, very fast, and
very good grip, steering, braking.

The vast majority is in perfect shape and the fact that we've
had unusually fine surfaces so early and so consistently is
fantastic, just not every-day possible, so what we have
now are just a few very normal weathered surface zones
that require care when traversing.

Un-groomed Conditions:

Some Very Good, some, early season knarly...

We have to remember, modern Snowmaking/Grooming
techniques have made "Day One" so much better that
we might forget what the start of Ski Season might have
been like 10 12 years ago.

Some of the un-groomed was like that today.

There's no Snowmaking in many of these places, so
having Andy Moe/Axle open at the end of November is already
a miracle due to last Wed.'s big snow storm, but they do
not have the support blown snow and there are natural
hazards you need to watch for. Experts only please.

More later if we can, but make sure your edges are good
for optimal control, and be aware that there are Seasonally
Normal Hazards out there that can be different from day to day.

16(*) Open Trails at Tremblant ... for the time being...

The Official Web Info.for Tremblant.ca has stated that they'd have
a Open Trail selection in the mid-twenties for the weekend, so we
expect to see the open number grow during the day. As Noted
below, with all the "Progressive" or "Gradual" openings on the
Official Tremblant.ca list, the total comes out to 27.

When the overall theme of your day at Tremblant starts with
this basic concept below, featuring the brand new opening of
Nansen...

Snow, and lots of it...

...you know that regardless of the number of Openings, those that are open
will be to a standard of quality that is very high.

Here's the Nansen "Big Picture" to go along
with the above trail-side view...

We are amazed that the quality, right from the first tracks onward,
can be as high as it is. You'd have to search for as much as a pebble
or a twig on Nansen because you just do not see virtually any
imperfections from a Mountain User standpoint. Our first run on Nansen
was flawless.

Oh, to be sure, nothing is ever "Perfect", there may be some very minor
glitches, but seriously, to open a run that by most comparisons skis as
well as any mid-winter day, within it's first few hours of a new season,
is quite remarkable.

Speaking of remarkable...

We love these Lac Tremblant Views with the reflective element of
calm waters. The last couple of days we've been showing Full Mountain
Panorama's, but this is the first one with a decent reflection so far
this season as it's been "Breezy" quite a bit of the time.

In addition to the beautiful view... snowmaking can be seen on
Biere-en-Bas, right above Johannsen leading to the South Resort Base,
as well as on Dernier Cri, to the right of the gondola line.

The Guns on Dernier Cri were shut off during the day and this scene below
is typical of how the "Big Bumps" are left to dry for a period of time
until they are spread flat by the Grooming Crews.

These Big Bumps represent one of the largest advances in Trail Opening
Quality within the history of Snowmaking. Rocks, Stumps, Logs, Crevasses
and all other manner of topographical glitches are simply buried under
a "Big Bump", or series of "Big Bumps", then the whole area is milled flat.

Simply brilliant trail development.

We feel the Tremblant Difference, is the quality of the Blown Snow
to begin with. Tremblant Crews make some of the finest snow in
the industry, they always have, and with a great source, comes a
great result.

Here's another sample of Trail readiness featuring Kandahar which is
all set to be groomed.

Outstanding Trail Grooming after the snowmaking phase is how you get
from those Big Bumps to this below... Beauchemin, right from the top,
a wide Super Expressway of Carving Excellence.

When we got to this point yesterday, Ski and Board traffic had created
very shallow moguls in the still-soft groomed snow on Beauchemin that
includes a lot from the big Snow Storm over Wed. Those little bumps
allowed some fabulous opportunities to be used as ramps to
get a wee bit of air under your Skis for easy, fun turns at
safe speed, and with soft landings. Fantastic high performance
skiing for those with the skills.

Below:
"Racer Ready!" ...anyone that hangs around the top of a Ski Race Course
has heard those words a million times as Racers take their marks
for starting their timed run. In this case, we're referring to the annual
gathering of Racers from around the Region that can be seen training
at Tremblant for the up-coming season.

It being a Winter Olympic's Year, you can expect the interest in all
forms of Alpine Winter Snow Sports to be very keen. You are looking
here at the stars of future Olympic's as they tune up their skills of "Fast"!

Early-Season Training is important for both Racers and Recreational
Skiers/Boarders alike. If you are serious about getting better at your
Winter Sport, you simply must practice and these early season days
when the traffic is light and the conditions are this good, are perfect
for practice. Build your skill-sets, build your endurance, increase your
fitness, improve your health, all very valid reasons for getting out now
to take advantage of Tremblant's fantastic conditions for this date.

When the season really gets going, and the Mountain is more fully opened,
you'll look like a Star and have the endurance to cover it all, if you get
out now to build your fitness foundation through early season practice.

Early Season Practice At Tremblant Makes You Look Good!

Todays Weather:

So far, thin overcast with sunny background and forecast to be overcast
with light snow. Daytime high temp at -8C, so still an easy early winter
day. Fairly light breezes from the South East, so moving up the Mountain
from the Duncan side, over the Summit, heading towards Nansen.

Temps are set to move up, but stay just below freezing for the next
several days.
