T360 Apres Ski Edit @ 9:15 P.M.

Shrouded in Summit Fog, the far view of the Edge Sector, seen
over the Summit Trees, on it's first Open day of the Season.

The Official Tremblant.ca Open Trails, Grooming and Snowmaking
List shows Trail # 91, Escapade, as the only Groomed run on
the Edge Sector and that is accurate.

The rest of the sector is in very raw, early form with substantial
natural hazards and large Snowmaking bumps on Action(#88) that
could be described as an immense, rolling, irregular Terrain Park.

The Snowmaking bumps are somewhat icy underneath the loose, recent
Natural Snow covering.

There is Warning Signage posted as you can see in this photo.

This sector requires Expert Level Skills. It also requires that people
using the area have Skis or Board that they will be prepared to suffer
potential damage to. Unfortunately, some of the Hazards are covered by
the recent snow, and it is impossible to know what is under every contour.
There are rocks, sticks, tree branches and other natural debris under
this often thin layer. Basically the hazards are being camouflaged or hidden,
which you don't know until after contact is made.

Considering the size and dimensions of the Snowmaking bumps, it
seems possible that there could be enough to create a Groomed
track. If and When Trail #88, Action, is Groomed, it's user friendliness
will be exponentially greater, but until that time, it is very difficult and
please be aware that the Posted Signage should be considered seriously.

53(*) Open Trails @ #Tremblant... But....

With all today's "Progressive", gradual Openings....

INCLUDING THE WHOLE EDGE SECTOR "PROGRESSIVE OPEN"...
the total comes out to 67(*)!!!

This is a "Good Sign" of the reasons for this dramatic rise....

Snow, Snow, Snow and then some more Snow, as far as the Eye can see...

which in some cases, is not that far, because there's so much Snow in the Air.
(**)

((**) Please Note: Photography in very Grey ambient light with
flying snow is not great for pic's, but Excellent for Skiing/Boarding.
You'll be able to see streaks of flying/falling snow in these pic's and
in essence that's Mother Natures filter. It doesn't help the auto focus
either, but nothin' you can do other than burn up the highlights, contrast,
definition etc., etc. in processing. We think of "Too Much Snow" flying
around as a "Happy Problem".)

While much of the region to the South/Sou-West got "Warm"
and/or "Freezing Rain" and may get more of that today...

Up here at "North", Tremblant Gets SNOW!!!

and there's more Snow up here in the forecast today!

We hope you get the point....

It's All About The Snow.

Back to the Edge Sector Opening, we ran this annotated one in last eve's
Apres Ski, so if you missed that, here it is again...

We weren't ready for this one above(no kidding,eh?), but we're puttin'
it in anyway, just for the fun of it. The trick was actually very nicely done.
Besides which, we're just warming up for this seasons action shots, so we'll try
our best to do better.

An incredible amount of falling snow in the air diffuses what's left
of daylight for this surrealistic blue-light Last Run Shot on Nansen
as Mountain Crews survey the terrain they'll be working on all night.

----- CONDITIONS CAVEATS: --------

With TONS of New Snow....

There are many Soft Zones that Beginners and Intermediates
may find a bit thick to navigate. Use your Snowplow and/or
come to a complete stop as often as is necessary to keep speed
under absolute control.

Oddly enough, we found some icy substrates exposed by Traffic on
Beauchemin, on the main pitch, just below the Edge Entrance.

This shows that anything is possible, so we recommend reduced speeds
on all accounts for initial explorations.

Allow extra room in Beginner/Green designated areas for those
who may make sudden course changes without any notice at all.

Choose Terrain that is appropriate for your Skill Level and Obey
all posted Ski Patrol Temporary Signage on the Mountain that can
supersede permanent trail signage when conditions can make a Blue
into a Black.

-------------------------------------------------------------

Today's Weather:

Overcast, intermittent falling Snow, Variable Shifting North winds of
Moderate speed and a daytime high temp of -4C. The breezes may
swing back and forth from basically over Nansen to P'tit Bonheur,
but at these temps will not be too too bad to deal with.

A winter storm warning is in effect for Western Quebec and the bulk
of the Snowfall is expected overnight, tonight. Accumulations are forecast
anywhere from 10 to 20 CM's, but who knows, for the sake of the base
and more Open Terrain, we'll hope for lots.

:) Bring Back The Memories... Research Future Visits...
If you would like to look up dates you visited Tremblant, or you
want to research days/weeks/months to visit, you can sample what
they look like historically, month by month, year by year.

GoTo: Archive, Search Reports by Date: Index: http://tinyurl.com/yktelmu

When reviewing dates from any of the past, numbered, archived pages,
you can use the "Previous Topic" or "Next Topic" buttons, located
screen far right, in upper date/message bar to scroll through sequential
dates, or use your browsers "back" button to stay on the selected index
page for non-sequential date reviews in either forward or reverse order.

There are approximately 6, 25 day Index pages per season.

( If you "Bookmark" the link above, it will always take you to the
First index page with the latest posts. That gives you an immediate,
current to 25 day past, review scroll of Winter Alpine Conditions by
consecutive date.)

T360 Apres Ski Under Construction.

Random Thoughts after a high intensity workout day...

because.....

Things are "Thick" right now at Tremblant,

and when things are "Thick", it takes a bit of muscle to work through.

All the recent Snow has yet to be compacted to ideal density,
consequently, by end-of-day, even the gentler Green/Beginner
Terrain is showing uneven surfaces.

It's quite important for Beginners to be under control at all times.
Surfaces are at their least forgiving when the top layer can easily be
penetrated and the result can be a head-over-heels experience.

In a seemingly contradictory way, considering all this Snow...

This is the second day we've been surprised by the icy substrates on
Lower Beauchemin so we're hopeful that this sector will benefit from
attention by Mountain Crews at some point.

Ski Patrol Training Simulation.

We hope you never need them, however, if you do,
it's good to see the Skills are always being maintained.

As usual, P'tit Bonheur holds some of the most even all-day surfaces.

As we discussed at the top of this dates notes, the Edge
is quite raw on it's Opening day. The glades, in a way, are almost
easier than the Open Trails.

Regardless of the Edges' surface anomalies, the views are
always superlative and in this one below we can see the Expo
Summit, Lowell Thomas Sector, Beauchemin and Tremblant's
Summit.

We all know, for the Average Skier/Boarder, Grooming makes one of
the largest single contributions to a days enjoyment. It offers the chance
to cruise easy, pace personal effort levels, and work on technique instead
of having to cope with un-predictable and/or un-even surfaces.

With this much snow around, it can take a few days to integrate
all the New Snow into the Base, so from This Point Forward....
… while they already have a good start, it will be interesting to
see how soon Mountain Crews can get all the Grooming back to
Tremblant's typical Standards of Excellence.
