North Side Parking Lot Jammed with South Lifts Closed.

North Skied Like Firm, Fresh Butter and if you kept
your speed in check by doing wide traverses, you could
make almost every turn in the air by popping off the
soft little ramp/bumps.

Excellent fun for experts! Our bases tuned, and coated for this temp
range, we had great speed and more than enough momentum to
shred just about anything with a surprising amount of Grip.

There were some typical "Too Much Snow" problems like
super soft zones, or tracked-up, hacked-up "Crud", but
it was all good and all fun.

The Freezing Rain that everyone was so concerned about was
a non-issue as far as Snow Surface Quality. It was more like Freezing
Tiny Snowy Icy Mini-Pellets, so what there was of it, all blended in
with the Snow seamlessly, at least on the North. With the South-Side
High Wind Lift Closure, it's going to be hard to tell how that side made
out until tomorrow morning, but we suspect you'll not see any negatives
at all by then.

If there was a problem with it, that was restricted Vision due to
Goggle icing. No doubt, that was the most inconvenient aspect
and people were doing their best to keep Lens surfaces clear.

Outer Shell layers ended up with sort of a frosty icing coating, but
no wet or dampness ever made it through. It was too cold out to
cause any of it to melt.

IF, IF, IF, they can get a whack of Grooming going tonight....

Tomorrow might be the best day of the so-far-season.

WINTER STORM WARNING IN EFFECT.

This comparatively Tranquil scene from yesterday at the Summit
could be a lot different if the wind works on the tree boughs...

South Side on "Progressive" Status as the Howling Wind Shrieks
like a Wailing Banshee.

Boy, oh Boy... them are quite the little "Breezes" out there....

According to The Weather Network, the winds are Nor-East,
in our case blowing up the Mountain over P'tit Bonheur and
rushing over towards Taschereau.

There's a possibility that the winds aloft, i.e. "Up Top" may
be in a slightly different direction than the forecast, however
one thing is very clear...

They are of sufficient velocity to justify South Side Lift Closures at this time.

These winds are predicted to change direction during the day
to a more directly East facing, and we think that could possibly
be better, at least for the Gondola, because the winds approach
would then be almost head-on, instead of diagonal. It is our
understanding that the diagonal wind loads are some of the most
troublesome, as they can cause a sideways swinging motion
that makes safe docking high risk.

First Bottom line on that point:

The wind factor is a Wildcard, so you could see changes to the
Lift Status during the day, maybe not?

Second Bottom line on that point:

You could see changes to the Open Trail list as well.

Additionally.... the forecast calls for the potential of mixed precipitation
including a small freezing rain component. However, we do not think that
is a very significant probability because the temps are too low at the
projected high of -7 C this aft., and at the even lower values of higher
elevation by anywhere between 3 to 5 Degrees C colder, the risks become
even less for rain and much more likely Snow.

As far as we're concerned, forecasters are only including that as a small
chance due to the proximity of such vast adjacent freezing rain to the South
of us where it's warmer.

Of course, we could be wrong. The wildcards of weather can
generate unexpected situations, so we do have to be ready for
almost anything.

Once you're off the Summit...

We think you'll be able to find lots of very fine terrain on the Lower
North Side sectors....

----- CONDITIONS CAVEATS: --------

With TONS of New Snow....

There are many Soft Zones that Beginners and Intermediates
may find a bit thick to navigate. Use your Snowplow and/or
come to a complete stop as often as is necessary to keep speed
under absolute control.

Oddly enough, we found some icy substrates exposed by Traffic on
Beauchemin, on the main pitch, just below the Edge Entrance.

This shows that anything is possible, so we recommend reduced speeds
on all accounts for initial explorations.

Allow extra room in Beginner/Green designated areas for those
who may make sudden course changes without any notice at all.

Choose Terrain that is appropriate for your Skill Level and Obey
all posted Ski Patrol Temporary Signage on the Mountain that can
supersede permanent trail signage when conditions can make a Blue
into a Black, or turns a single Black into a Double Black.

Edge Sector Caveats:

This sector requires Expert Level Skills. It also requires that people
using the area have Skis or Board that they will be prepared to suffer
potential damage to. Unfortunately, some of the Hazards are covered by
the recent snow, and it is impossible to know what is under every contour.
There are rocks, sticks, tree branches and other natural debris under
this often thin layer. Basically the hazards are being camouflaged or hidden,
which you don't know until after contact is made.

Considering the size and dimensions of the Snowmaking bumps on Trail #88
"Action", it seems possible that there could be enough to create a Groomed
track. If and When Trail #88, Action, is Groomed, it's user friendliness
will be exponentially greater, but until that time, it is very difficult and
please be aware that the Posted Warning Signage should be considered seriously.

:) Bring Back The Memories... Research Future Visits...
If you would like to look up dates you visited Tremblant, or you
want to research days/weeks/months to visit, you can sample what
they look like historically, month by month, year by year.

GoTo: Archive, Search Reports by Date: Index: http://tinyurl.com/yktelmu

When reviewing dates from any of the past, numbered, archived pages,
you can use the "Previous Topic" or "Next Topic" buttons, located
screen far right, in upper date/message bar to scroll through sequential
dates, or use your browsers "back" button to stay on the selected index
page for non-sequential date reviews in either forward or reverse order.

There are approximately 6, 25 day Index pages per season.

( If you "Bookmark" the link above, it will always take you to the
First index page with the latest posts. That gives you an immediate,
current to 25 day past, review scroll of Winter Alpine Conditions by
consecutive date.)
