1/4/14 #Tremblant Conditions

Post by T360 »

T360 Apres Ski Edit @ 9:45 P.M. EST.

Our Intro to Today's Post was....

"The Winds Of Warm Are Blowing In...."

Turns out, that was a bit more correct than we'd like to be....

Firstly, the daytime high reached -10C, over the forecast -13C.

Secondly...

Now You Know Why We Label All Our Weather Annotations with...

"If..."

Since all our weather data yesterday was published by The Weather Network,
the forecasting models have changed dramatically, and not for the good either.

See Attached Two Weather Network Screenshots.

Please Note Above: The Freezing Rain Warning is contradictory
to the actual forecast next to it that shows "Sunny" and
"Scattered Showers" for Monday.

Other than that...

Tomorrow will be Great!

But the odds are not quite so predictable for Monday.

The Winds Of Warm Are Blowing In....

In very approximate terms, about 5 hours from this point,
it will be half as cold as it is now.

We think as the day progresses that "The Winds Of Warm" may become
a more significant factor than they are right now.

To the South-West of us, the System that is making its way here is
carrying very high velocity wind with gusts in the 50-60 KMPH range,
at ground level, so if any of that arrives during the Open Lift Hours here,
we would not be surprised to see changes in Open Lift Status, and even
in the Open Trail Count.

Ground level wind stat's can often be "Blown Away" by/at Summit Levels!

(pun intended)

Looking at the current animated weather radar map showing the
advance of the System, we are estimating what-ever effects the
winds may have to be coming into play around Noon or so. At that
point, sky's may become clearer and visibility may greatly increase.

Until Then....

IT'S BEEN SNOWING AGAIN...

Today's Conditions on the Groomed Terrain are going to be Excellent.
It's still cold early this morning and the Crisp Groomed Snow is going
to have outstanding performance in just about every dimension possible.

Pick your Skill Level and GO!

Naturally.... GO SAFELY!

---------- Conditions Caveats ---------------

As Fast as it is, you will still need to be aware of Holiday Traffic.
Beginners/Intermediates may find themselves on more challenging descents
than they can handle and often make sudden, completely unannounced
directional changes.

If the wind kicks up and/or in narrower funnel zones of compressed
traffic, there may be slick or icy substrates, so please use caution
with speed anytime there are others in close proximity.

In the Un-Groomed Expert Terrain, explore at slow speeds.
Hazards exist and they can change from hour to hour with
wear factors. The vast majority is quite excellent for the
New Years Holiday time period, but there's no sense risking
safety for careless/reckless speed in unfamiliar conditions.

DO NOT ASSUME ... things are the same as yesterday, or even
a few hours ago in the un-groomed, natural snow only, Open Trails.

IF... the wind kicks up...

Check Out This Impressive Groomed List! ... Plus... there are trails
on the list that don't show Today Groomed, but they have been
recently, so there's more that should be in quite decent shape.

:) Bring Back The Memories... Research Future Visits...
If you would like to look up dates you visited Tremblant, or you
want to research days/weeks/months to visit, you can sample what
they look like historically, month by month, year by year.

GoTo: Archive, Search Reports by Date: Index: http://tinyurl.com/yktelmu

When reviewing dates from any of the past, numbered, archived pages,
you can use the "Previous Topic" or "Next Topic" buttons, located
screen far right, in upper date/message bar to scroll through sequential
dates, or use your browsers "back" button to stay on the selected index
page for non-sequential date reviews in either forward or reverse order.

There are approximately 6, 25 day Index pages per season.

( If you "Bookmark" the link above, it will always take you to the
First index page with the latest posts. That gives you an immediate,
current to 25 day past, review scroll of Winter Alpine Conditions by
consecutive date.)
