T360 Mid-Aft Update: @ 2:50 P.M.

Open Trail count raised to 38 @ 2:43 P.M.

Expressed as a percentage, that's almost a 100% increase.

We think you can expect more fairly soon, maybe like tomorrow morning, maybe.

Approximately 200 MILLION People live within the affected
area by the Whacky, Weird Weather that's dominated the
entire East Half of the North American Continent as well as
the news of recent days.

No one visiting Tremblant should wonder why there's a
drop in the Open Trail Count as the Mountain went from
Base level temp's of +5C with Freezing Rain, down to -10C
in 6 hours and further down to -20C in another 6 hours.

Thank You Siberia!(***)

(***) The cold air masses currently flowing over Eastern North
America are a combination of an Arctic Vortex and Super Cold
winds from Siberia that are moving at very high velocity, directly
over the Geographic North Pole, then down over Eastern Canada
and the USA.

We would not have been surprised to see the Mountain Closed
either early or altogether at some point, but that never happened
and Tremblant Mountain Crews sprung into action IMMEDIATELY.

There will be Good Skiing somewhere within the Open Terrain. Period.

No Matter How Strange The Weather, We Have Never NOT FOUND
a Sweet Spot somewhere.

Part of this is the Skills of Mountain Crews to render Ski-able/Board-able
no matter what.

Part of this is the Natural and Distinct Micro-Climates within Tremblant's
Multi-sided Domain that react differently, or are subjected to different
winds, temp's, shelter, or types and amounts of precipitation.

Combine these two points above and you will find those sweet spots.

At first, they may be small sectors, but gradually, they grow in size
and very soon they begin to overlap, thereby creating ever greater
areas of finely rendered particles.

-------- Case Study:-------

Title: Course To Fine Grooming, Per 1 day cycle.

January 31st, 2013.... and February 1st, 2013.
Versant Sud, The South Side, Trail #18, McCulloch,
as observed and photographed from the TGV Quad,
Up-bound.

----------- Please Note: ----------------

The Images presented below are intensionally showing
"AFTER", picture first, followed by the "BEFORE" picture,
of the exact same location over 24 hours, because we want
the first impression you get to emphasize what we would call the
"Quickness of Quality", as it refers to the quick restoration of the
Performance of Alpine Winter Sports Snow, at Tremblant.

We might also call it the "User Friendly Quotient".

Basically...
We Wanna Know...

HOW GOOD DOES IT SKI ? ? ? ...

... AND HOW SOON???

Secondly, we want to illustrate the initial, 24 hour PRIOR, condition
so you can see what they had to start with.

We think this order high-lights both the very high Quality benefits....
....and just how Quicky those benefits typically start.

----------------- end of notes ---------------------

Coarseness of particle size can vary from "Golf Balls", as the larger
ones are commonly referred to, right down to sand-like fine granular.

It is the repeated Daily Grooming Cycles that incrementally reduce
particle size....

As Well As Skier, Boarder Traffic.

That's where all Tremblant Fans come in.

Thousands, Millions of passages with sharp metal Ski/Board Edges over and
through the Groomed surfaces help to break down particle size.

In The Mean-Time, like 20 some odd hours before, this
was the same picture, at least as far as the Real-Estate goes:

BELOW:

"Before:" Pretty "CHUNKY" and not too "User Friendly".

PROOF OF LOCATION:

observe/note the 180' curved tree boughs BEHIND the ORANGE
boundary stake in the Raw Surface "Before" Picture.

Scroll back up to the "After" picture displayed first, above, and you can see
the same tree boughs, with the Groomers Boundary Stake Removed, and a
definitely Shreddable, definitely Skiable, relatively fine particle size with a
high degree of "User Friendly" Performance Qualities, and ...

....it's roughly 24 hours later.

In that 24 hour reference, we call the "After" Shot:

"Quickness Of Quality"

----------------- End Of Case Study -----------------------

After a similar Surface Recovery situation on Devils River, here's another
"Quickness Of Quality" Post Grooming concept we'll call...

Quality of Quickness"...

Above: Just as clearly as you can see the Speed, you can see the
mixed particle size in the airborne Snow Debris trail behind the Skier.
Within only a few hours, Post-Grooming, the mixed sized course to fine
granular is clear enough to see what's on the surface before it gets kicked
up into the air. As these particles get Ski and Board SHARP EDGES repeatedly
slicing them up, Traffic really helps to make them finer and finer.

Three Things Then:

1) If cruising like this above, looks like good exercise and fun, you would be correct.

2) You will be able to do exactly that somewhere within the Open Terrain at
Tremblant... right this second.

3) So, while there is always some Good Skiing immediately, usually, by the third
day after one of these events, whole sectors, even half or more of the Mountain
may typically be reaching fine level conditions.

If anyone read this silly diary yesterday, we are still using a Pick-Axe
to dig out by hand... who knows how many cubic units of Ice Dam
that put hydraulic pressure on a portion our home base foundation,
and there is a lot more to go.

Flooded Basements are being experienced by Hundred's of Thousands, if
not Millions of Households in Eastern North America.

Dare We Look At The Weather ???

:) Bring Back The Memories... Research Future Visits...
If you would like to look up dates you visited Tremblant, or you
want to research days/weeks/months to visit, you can sample what
they look like historically, month by month, year by year.

GoTo: Archive, Search Reports by Date: Index: http://tinyurl.com/yktelmu

When reviewing dates from any of the past, numbered, archived pages,
you can use the "Previous Topic" or "Next Topic" buttons, located
screen far right, in upper date/message bar to scroll through sequential
dates, or use your browsers "back" button to stay on the selected index
page for non-sequential date reviews in either forward or reverse order.

There are approximately 6, 25 day Index pages per season.

( If you "Bookmark" the link above, it will always take you to the
First index page with the latest posts. That gives you an immediate,
current to 25 day past, review scroll of Winter Alpine Conditions by
consecutive date.)
