THE RETURN OF YEARS BEAUTIFUL
JEAN-PHILIPPE DÉCARIE
La PRESS

After being hit by the 2008-2009 crisis, the Mont Tremblant activities were found
two years ago the beautiful momentum that had propelled them during the
mid-2000s "Despite challenging snow conditions, the activities of the station
have always been profitable, and we have never lost our mainly economic driver
in the region, "recalls however Patrice Malo, President and Chief operating Officer
of station Mont Tremblant.

Proof of the vitality of Mont Tremblant, the resort achieved last year the best year
life, recording attendance of not less than 2.4 million visitors, despite a winter that
started late and laborious way.

"On December 24, the day that traditionally has the highest traffic, it was 18 degrees
and people were walking in the village at the bottom of the sweater slopes. But we
invested in new canons that allow us to make snow at - 1 degree during the night,
so our visitors could ski, "says Patrice Malo.

Despite years more difficult in terms of real estate, Mont Tremblant has continued
to invest in the mountains in order to respond to natural snow late. Last year, the
real cold has started on 28 December but people could ski from November 28.

Moreover, since the arrival in 2012 of the international Ironman event, which takes
place at the end of August, Mont Tremblant has confirmed its status as a summer destination.

"For the people of Quebec, Ontario, the United States and even elsewhere,
Mont Tremblant has become the place to practice activities related to the Ironman,
whether running, biking or swimming. Throughout the summer, we see people
practicing these activities in the region ", notes with satisfaction the President of
Tremblant.

DIFFICULT YEARS
The 2008-2009 crisis has been painful for the real estate activities of Mont Tremblant
Resort and its then owner, Intrawest Group, which has invested more than $ 1 billion
on the mountain and in real estate between 1993 and 2006.

Patrice Malo has known since that time, freshly graduated from HEC Montreal, he
joined Intrawest in 1993 as a financial analyst before being promoted to Director
and then Vice President, Finance.

"From 1993 to 2006, it was formed the vision of Intrawest. We were a group of
people all under the age of 40 years and the project was built with the support of
governments who believed in mountain development and have invested 100 million
in infrastructure, "recalls Patrice Malo.

Intrawest, which operated other resorts in North America, however, was heavily in
debt, and will pay for the crisis of 2008 to be bought in 2009 by Fortress Investment
Funds.

"I left Tremblant in 2006 when I was Vice President, Finance, and was asked to return
as president in 2009, at the height of the crisis, when Fortress decided to sell some of
Intrawest properties keep only the ski centers.

"That's when we decided to invest in the mountains to keep upgrading our product and
that it is committed to renovate our properties. "

- Patrice Malo

Intrawest is co-owner of the Fairmount Fairmount with the group and seven other
hotel brands with the owners of units. Since 2012, all properties have been renovated,
but some units will be shortly.

SURVIVING THE PARITY
The real estate market in the region, however, was doubly hit by the 2009 crisis and
the advent of parity between the Canadian and US dollars.

"Many American homeowners who purchased their condo with a Canadian dollar was
worth 65 cents US did not hesitate to sell their property when the Canadian dollar was
at par, even if they sold their property 30% cheaper they had not paid, "said President
of Tremblant.

After years of release, building construction resumed at Tremblant, and identifies three
projects townhouses by many developers, then Intrawest limited to sell land around
the mountain.

Since last year, Tremblant again enjoying the weak Canadian dollar, as US visitors
started to come in large numbers last winter, constituting 30% of visitors in
accommodation rather than the 22% they usually represent .

"But we will not become complacent with the advantage of a weak dollar, and that is
why measures have been implemented to ensure the loyalty of our customers by
initiating the Sublime season pass for $ 400 adults and $ 75 for children.

"We became more accessible, since a family of four can ski all winter to $ 1,000.”

- Patrice Malo

If Americans represent 30% of users of the resort in winter, Ontario visitors account
for 40% of the customers and Quebec, to 30%.

Mont Tremblant Resort generates over 3,000 jobs during the winter high season,
including 1,800 at Intrawest, and 2300 during the summer season. The winter season
for its part generates 70% of annual revenues Intrawest, against 30% for the summer
season.
