Continuing on at the Airport Road International Centre, the Toronto Snow Show
is probably the largest show in Canada. It’s strengths continue to be both the Travel
booths for those doing Ski Holiday/Vacation planing, and the Retail Storefront booths
that offer some of the best deals on past-season Skis, Boards, Clothing, Accessories
and all other Winter related outdoor gear that can be found anywhere in the country.

The competition is fierce and the discounting can be exceptional, but the equipment
selection is best at the shows opening on Thursday, so if you want the widest range of
choice, go early. Another significant strength of the Toronto show is the Ski/Board Swap.
Over the years, we’ve seen some truly remarkable bargains here, but this is
another case of come early for best results.

The Ottawa Ski/Board show has always offered a very solid representation
for the Eastern Ontario, Western Quebec Ski/Board market with an emphasis
on the very good local Ski Hills, i.e., within/less than an hour’s drive from Ottawa.
It is a more laid back feel than the Toronto show, but the general level of
appeal is to a very knowledgeable consumer which we think is due to a higher
per capita Ski/Board ratio than Toronto gets. Ottawa Ski/Board retailers are
VERY experienced, you’ll see them out on local slopes, so there’s an excellent
technical product understanding to benefit from.

Ottawa gets more winter, and it’s closer to a wider range of available Open Terrain,
including a Super-Dedicated Tremblant Fan Base, so there’s a very well developed
and enthusiastic local Ski/Board community that comes out for this show.

Anecdotally and very unscientifically, as as result of the above, we think there’s a
concentration of higher than average personal skill levels within the Ottawa Ski Market
that brings out a better than average quality of used gear available at the Ski/Board
Swap. It’s not uncommon to see a range of well maintained high performance gear
at this one.

We’ve not had the opportunity to attend this one, but for sure, the Quebec City
Ski/Board community here is some of the most enthusiastic and high skill levels
to be found in anywhere in Canada, so we think it will be a very high quality to
cater to that sophisticated consumer. Their Exhibitor List below is impressive and
who could debate the charm of Old Quebec City for a location, so no doubt,
if you can make it, it will be a very fine Ski/Board show.

Additional Notes: At Your Local Level...

It should be noted that while the Big Shows certainly have the most to offer
in terms of Ski/Board consumer Travel options, there are also local ski areas
that may have there own pre-season show events. These Local areas typically
have Ski Patrol Ski/Board Swap Fundraisers or may be sponsored by the local
Ski/Board Race teams as fundraisers to support the travel expenses for regional
competition schedules. Check with local Ski Hills in your area for dates.

The Missing Elephant in the room...

We looked and looked, searched and searched, but no sign of a Montreal based
Ski/Board Show, which considering that Montreal is in the geographic centre of
such a concentration of significant Ski Resorts and regional Ski Hills, seems odd?

This is not the first season without a Montreal Ski show either, we looked last year,
made several enquiries, but nothing ever came to the surface. If anyone knows
something about that, please let us in on it on our Facebook or Twitter accounts.

The Quebec City Salon du Ski has one of the most impressive exhibitor lists, but...
the Nov. 18/19/20 is quite late, especially for Tremblant Fans who will have likely
made all their equipment purchases and/or travel plans well before these dates,
and will probably be getting all set to roll out the door for the scheduled seasons
start at Tremblant on Thursday, November 24th.
