Thursday Eve. Update: As you can see above, the
Opening Day Trail is P’tit Bonheur to Lowell Thomas Quad.
Download to Versant Sud/South Resort Base via Gondola.
Ski-out to Nord/North base by Saturday morning. Additional
details posted below.

Please Note: We may be experiencing connectivity issues
at our field reporting station. We are also experiencing
logistical volunteer participation issues as Covid-19
protocols require assigned lift access vs. the transferrable
passes we had for volunteers, so we are down to .25 of our
normal reporting capacity. While we hope to be able to
adapt, this will unfortunately reduce the field work ability
we have had for the past 12 years.

Please bear with us as we sort through both technical
and logistical support issues.

This topic is subject to repeated editing and revision
as new info. becomes available.

Just in case we have any problems in the morning
with the normally scheduled report, we’re including
some prep. work Web Cam observations here just to
set the stage for the start to the season.

Basically, it’s been cold enough for natural snow to
fall, and be almost completely retained, since November 1.

The snowmaking has been ongoing since then too.

In the meantime, out on the Mountain today, and over the last couple of days,
the snowmaking coverage and surface preparations have been ongoing.

When you read the captions in this one below you’ll see
that we really got the potential wrong. We do not have
access to the Mountain prior to opening so what we
typically do is compare the weather conditions to previous
years where there is supporting actual open trail data
to make correlation to. We talk a bit more about that
in the Conditions Notes below.

Mountain Utility Notice:

You Need To Have A Covid-19 Vaccine Passport To Access The Mountain.

You may need to open this image in a new window
to enable Zoom-in. Please check it out.

PRELIMINARY Weather Notes:

We are not in the least concerned with the mixed
precip. forecast because at the typically cooler
by -4C at Mountain Elevations, it has very good
chances of being all snowfall over the trail network
and even if it’s not, spring-like skiing in the fall is
not uncommon and it’s still loads of fun.

Of course, we could be wrong but with the trend being
somewhat cooler than normal for this period so far, plus
the probability of atmospheric strata above the Mountain
being even cooler than summit surface levels, we do think
the odds lie in favour of snow.

Normally we have access to the Summit weather station
that generates actual and forecast data for that elevation,
however it is currently off-line, so that information is not
available at this time. The reason it is important right now
is the ability to monitor typically cooler elevation effects on
tipping points that can be critical differences in precipitation
outcomes when the base levels are just around Zero C. We are
told on good authority that the Summit weather service should
be restored by the weekend, so we look forward to that.

Conditions Notes:

Day One Machine Groomed, Primarily Blown Snow.

There may be some coarseness with mixed sized particles due to initial
machine processing, however it will respond very quickly to user break-in
as many passages by skiers and boarders edges quickly helps to render
out finer particles. For sure, it will do nothing but quickly get better with
each passing night shift of grooming as well.

If it snows, better quality progress will be apparent by the hour. Any mix
of natural into blown immediately blends out a finer smoother feel underfoot.

In this case, because the only open trail is located on the Versant Nord/North
side Summit sector, it actually has close to the very best potential for
natural snowfall accumulations over the whole Mountain in these weather

Wed. Eve. Update:

Tremblant has released the Opening which includes
UPPER Versant Nord/North section only, until Saturday
morning. Unfortunately, conditions have restricted
development to P’tit Bonheur to the Lowell T. Quad on

Obviously our enthusiasm, considering the ambient temps
since November 1, was a bit too optimistic. We thought we’d
see quite a bit more, so in this case we have to take responsibility
for being wrong, especially on the ski-out to base which according
to the Official F/B video, is scheduled to be available on Versant
Nord for Saturday morning via Beauchemin Bas/Lower.

Ski-out to the Versant Sud/South side will commence next week.
We are not sure which day next week as a specific date was not
officially referenced.

It is possible that Mountain Op’s is more concerned with the
potential of rainy bit components in the final mix. We could
understand if there was a conservation effort for the existing
foundational work in order to carry it forward without traffic
stress. Pursuant to the notices published on the T.ca homepage
regarding labour shortages, perhaps the weather generated
more work hours than could be staffed for refined open terrain?
Based on the absence of the fall heat-wave we had last year
(with early 2020 Nov. overnight’s at +17 C), that forced the
1 week delay for opening, we thought we might have actually
been comparatively, several steps ahead with the fairly
consistent sub-zero C cool for this year.

Opening Day, Mid-Day Update:

Fantastic mid-day news for those in attendance today
as Mountain Op’s opens the Versant Sud/South Side,
Haut/Upper sector with Beauvallon Haut/Upper, as well
as Alpine. The Alpine segment may only be the top 2/3
which is common for the initial days.

This is s a very unscientific opinion, however by opening
Beauvallon/Alpine, the Opening Day terrain has doubled
or depending on full width dimensional finishing, tripled,
within the first 4 hours of the new seasons operation.

On a technical data note...

The grooming icons are activated, however the snowmaking
icons are not yet activated. We encourage regular monitoring
of the snowmaking icons in particular for start-up as they are
the single largest indicator of both imminent sector and trail

We will have as much as we can, as soon as we can,
thanks for your patience. All topics are subject to
edited revision as info. is updated.

In the meantime, go Skiing or Boarding if you can.
Every moment on the slopes is precious and should
be fully appreciated for the privilege it is within a
world that often seems to have an uncertain dynamic.

:) Bring Back The Memories... Research Future Visits...
If you would like to look up dates you visited Tremblant, or you
want to research days/weeks/months to visit, you can sample what
they look like historically, month by month, year by year.

When reviewing dates from any of the past, numbered, archived pages,
you can use the "Previous Topic" or "Next Topic" buttons, located
screen far right, in upper date/message bar to scroll through sequential
dates, or use your browsers "back" button to stay on the selected index
page for non-sequential date reviews in either forward or reverse order.

There are approximately 6, 25 day Index pages per season.

( If you "Bookmark" the link above, it will always take you to the
First index page with the latest posts. That gives you an immediate,
current to 25 day past, review scroll of Winter Alpine Conditions by
consecutive date.)
