T360 Late Night Apres Ski Edit, Under Construct @ 10:13 P.M.
It was a very fine mid-February day
on the Second of April.
It was a cool, with windchill sometimes even cold,
authentic winter day.
This person below skied right into our carefully
composed panoramic, right out of nowhere, but
does very nicely illustrate the surface characteristics
responding to a side-slide parallel turn over the
shallow but adequate soft top layers quite well,
so we decided to keep this one as a typical surface
sample du Jour.

Everything we wrote in the Orig. Post forecast
below was pretty much accurate.
Everything was very solid, but extremely smooth
and with the exact shallow top layers we forecast.
There were many zones of very fine, very granular
surfaces that actually skied with significant applied
carving energy. You can see the well defined arch’s
in the upper pitch tracking shown below.
4.2.23.Ptit.Bonheur.Easy.Technical.Carving.c.jpg
A close up with a wide angle perspective of the same pitch
shows the fine granular beside and around the ski tip. The
sunlight is being refracted by very small icy specs that are
blended into the top layers.

In many decades of April’s first days here there would
not many others that could compare to this much winter
so well into spring.
Quite amazing actually...

Above: This is a re-emphasis of the point
we make in the main post for today below.
We promote the virtues of consulting with the
unique Tremblant Info. Ski Crews for all Tremblant
guests, both new and regular’s, because of the
useful value of radio-controlled trail status
updates that are literally up to the minute.
This can be especially helpful at stages of the
season when the trail availability can be affected
by weather that cause the open terrain to be
more or less, even during the open hours of
any given day. In addition to terrain access,
the other consideration that Info. Ski Crews
can really help with is challenge levels. Evolving
conditions can mean substantial differences
in safe navigation over the course of a day,
particularly when softening conditions can
generate extensive, challenging, mogul zones, and
these folks can definitely assist with appropriate
suggestions for a safe and fun next or last run.
Tomorrow.... going from -6 C to +6 C, overcast with snow
and mixed afternoon precipitation. Could be all snow up
on the cooler Alpine trail network.

We’ve Been Zipping Around Tremblant For Months,
But We’ve Only Got 3 Weeks Left!

Very winter-like technical conditions will
require technical skills to harness turning
energy within an overall setting of very
firm, very smooth, trail base quality.
The key to today in our opinion is “Nuance".
Subtle edge control moves, smoothly applied
should get you the maximum grip potential
out of what will most likely remain shallow
machine generated top layers.
From an extended utility point, every day at
the beginning of April with this cool to cold
trend extends the base coverage integrity by
at least 2 or 3 days when/if the spring heat
actually gets here, and/or significantly minimizes
the impact of rainy days in the near-term forecast.

Weather Notes:
As far as we are concerned, the great benefit
of this long range forecast is what we expect
to be the overnight sub-zero C’s at Mountain
elevations which is exactly what is required
in order to keep the trail base stable throughout
the closing phases of the season.
It will mean that there is a basic necessity for
tuned edges to handle the morning firm bits,
however the real blessing we see is going to be
the extended retention of wall-to-wall and
Summit-to-Base dimensional coverage that
we think will be extraordinarily fine and complete
compared to historic seasonal averages.
----------- 8:45 A.M. Insert Update: ----------------
We may be wrong on the timing call for any or
eventual softening. This is a very cool start for
any April morning and there is a good chance
now that the cold momentum could be largely
solar resistant?
One thing we think for sure...
“Fast As A Bullet!"

Absolutely critical Info.Ski consult for “Best Results” today!
With the potential dynamics in available open
terrain today its essential that you confer with
the Info. Ski Crews if you want to maximize
your fun factor. There’s nothing worse for any
Apres Ski bar talk than finding out you never
even knew about great terrain that opened up.
Open trail status is available by the minute here
so it’s a good idea to check in at the Info. Ski
Summit station periodically during your day.

Conditions Notes:
In the Groomed:
Everything freshly machined should be very fine,
with a definitely firm base until around, maybe
just a bit before, the noon hour. At that point the
solar energy could begin to build sufficient heat
to soften some of the Versant Sud/South Side
and Soleil sectors, maybe.
This forecast temp range is just cool enough that
we may not see much or any softening until mid
afternoon, but is also April 2 and the sun is quite
intense as it reaches its daily height so there is some
potential that temps could exceed forecast.
Versant Nord/North Side trails may remain very firm
all day, but if there is an advantage, it may be that the
weather kept all the crowds away yesterday, so the
pre-existing smoothness should be totally complete.
One of the biggest/best indicators of conditions softening
may be the eventual expansion of the Open trails list.
In the Sous Bois/Hors Piste/Glades and Un-Groomed:
With the seasonal base accumulations at 650 cm’s
there is extraordinary reserve, especially in
drift-favoured zones, however the immediate
restrictions and permissions are all completely
dependant on Ski Patrol safety criteria that
bushwhackers will need to wait for. Basically,
it’s a “Laws Of Physic’s” froze-to-soft thing
and this trail group needs individual inspections
on an ongoing basis to monitor developing surface
conditions for safe openings.
The typical Sunday attendance pattern is busy in the
morning, then the mass exodus begins at around
1:00 P.M. as they all rush off to “Theirville” to get
ready for the work and school week.
