T360 Late, Late, Apres Midnight, Apres Ski...
We need to remind people that Conditions Descriptions are Relative
to the Context of the Current Season’s date at time of reporting.
So, when we describe any given Trail or Sector, unless we specifically
state otherwise, it is only in comparison to what has passed up to that
date on that Trail or Sector for this season, and such descriptions are
not to be construed with Total Seasonal Averages or Mid-Winter Averages.(++)
With That In Mind...
We got most of Today’s forecast right, but there were some areas that did
not respond favourably to the Overnight Combination of Wind
after Grooming. The biggest surprise in that regard was P’tit Bonheur
that was Windblown and Icier than we expected, however Nansen made
up for that by being Very, Very Fine.
Nansen was not the only Versant Sud, South Side Trail in good shape
and if you had to “Put Us On The Spot”, we’d have to say that the South
Side held the better "User Friendly” surfaces with great examples like
Alpine and Beauvallon Bas yielding some Very Good Carving Grip and Traction.
This was probably due to the very slight Sun-Warmth that made a difference
you could feel underfoot.
Snowmaking continues on at a vigorous pace and that made Soleil a real
challenge today due to reduced visibility and Goggle Blown Snow Crystal Lens Coating.
One of the next Snowmaking zones to get developed into Open, is Expo.
You may even see, could possibly see... Expo for New Years Day???
Some People said McCulloch was Icy... evidently they never told these Kidzzz!!!
We hope to have time to add more here, very early Morn.
Thanks for your Patience!
... and oh, by the way... has anyone else noticed that there is a Potential
of up to 45 CM’s of New Fresh Snow in the 5 Day Weather Forecast??? !!!

Back To Basics...
When Mother Nature sets a Hard Freeze after one of her Warm Mood’s, we
need to Cheerfully adapt in order to make the most of the whole situation and
very, very fortunately, Tremblant Mountain Crews have provided us with the
Smoothness in the firm base surfaces to do that.
What we have, for all Skill Levels is Very Technical Skiing/Boarding, but in an
Easy way.
What we mean by that is the Technical Part is the subtle edge control
that allows you to safely manoeuvre when loose top layer surface depths are
less than ideal, or there is a very firm or icy base encountered.
The Easy Part is that the general level of smoothness means
you are not having to deal with rough or grossly uneven lumps, bumps, or
other surface anomalies that could throw you around at the same time.
In very practical Learning terms, these conditions are a fine opportunity
to master edge control for all Skill Levels. Once again, the general level of
Smoothness is the over-riding factor in allowing optimal control over the
firmest of Base Surfaces, regardless of Pitch, within all Green, Blue and
Black Rated Terrain Difficulty Posted Signage.
Additionally, Today will have benefitted from another Over-Night Grooming
Cycle. That will help to render out Looser Top Layers of Greater Depth for
a more forgiving Ski/Board experience by permitting more normal Edge-Set
Angulation in Linked Turns performed over the length of any given Trail.
Experience shows us that Tremblant Mountain Crews pay particular attention to
the Green, “Easiest” Trail Surfaces, so examples like Nansen and P’tit Bonheur
should be quicky approaching Ideal Quality for the Trail Ratings after this second
Grooming Cycle from the Freeze Point the day before yesterday.
------------- Conditions Caveat ---------------
Bundle Up.
Seals around Face/Goggles, Neck, Wrists, Waist, Boot Tops etc., etc.
ARE ABSOLUTELY CRITICAL, unless you are not bothered by Cold.
Otherwise, Pay Attention to ALL Posted Trail Signage, including and especially
Superseding Hand Posted du Jour Trail Advisories!
-------------- end of Caveat -----------------------
References to Daily Improvements in Top Surface Layers
is best illustrated by the following:
Tremblant Trail Quality Case Study:
Taschereau, Versant Sud, the South Side, Summit Sector
What was in Ski-Bum Slang Language “Boiler Plate”(**), two days ago,
is now Showing and Skiing with a Loose Mixed Sized Granular Top Layer
that is Machine Generated and Groomed. It is increasing in Depth every day
with repeated Grooming Cycles.
((**) Boiler Plate is a 19th, 20th Century reference to the Cast Iron
Sheet Material used to make High Pressure Steam Vessels for Industrial
and/or Heating applications.)
Evidence of the Skiable Characteristics can be found in the Carving Edge Marks
left by the passage of Skis ’n Boards over it. It is not yet reached the depth that will
eventually be achieved, however, it is sufficient to be able to apply Expert Technique
to navigate competently.
If you hear problems being expressed about this Trail, the likelihood is that
it will be from Intermediates who do not have the Skills to be good on it, so
they may blame the conditions instead of being critical of their own abilities... or...
any level of user that does not have Properly Tuned Edges and may blame the
conditions rather than using the correct tools, i.e., “Sharp Edges”, for the job.
Either way... this is not only an example of Todays Incremental Improvements, but
it is also a very appropriate reminder that Trail Selection Matching to Actual User
Skill Levels and Equipment Suitability is critical to Interpreting Feedback about
Conditions.
Conditions for Rated Skill Levels are relative, so over on Nansen, for a “Green”,
Easiest Example, you will find a similar Improvement, but on the far less steep
and very user friendly Wide and Gentle Slope Nansen is famous for.
More Weather Notes:
Super Sunny with daytime high @ -13 C and definite Solar Energy on Safe
Trail-side sheltered spots. Moderate Westerly Breezes coming up Beauvallon
and crossing the summit towards Lowell Thomas.
A Very Crisp, Clear, Early Winter Day!

Welcome Back to Winter!
((++)For some reason, we’ve gotten feedback that when we describe Early
Season Dec. Conditions in a positive manner, we are somehow comparing
them to Mature Mid-Winter Conditions. That is just not the case. Unless
otherwise Specifically stated, conditions are always referenced relative to recent.)

Bring Back The Memories... Research Future Visits...
If you would like to look up dates you visited Tremblant, or you
want to research days/weeks/months to visit, you can sample what
they look like historically, month by month, year by year.
GoTo: Archive, Search Reports by Date: Index: http://tinyurl.com/yktelmu
When reviewing dates from any of the past, numbered, archived pages,
you can use the "Previous Topic" or "Next Topic" buttons, located
screen far right, in upper date/message bar to scroll through sequential
dates, or use your browsers "back" button to stay on the selected index
page for non-sequential date reviews in either forward or reverse order.
There are approximately 6, 25 day Index pages per season.
( If you "Bookmark" the link above, it will always take you to the
First index page with the latest posts. That gives you an immediate,
current to 25 day past, review scroll of Winter Alpine Conditions by
consecutive date.)
