It’s Forecast to be Sunny, Warmer, And There's More Snow...

So Relax, You’re At Tremblant!

So then, you say you’re not here at Tremblant to relax?

Here is our One-Pic. Performance Forecast Sample for today:

We elaborate on the elements of this above pic'd forecast sample, below in the
Conditions Notes for this post, where we refer to a natural “banking effect”.
What you see above as that banking effect is something we also refer to as “Shred”
characteristics, where the skis have a fully supported angle of attack into
the snow surface and demonstrate a 100% reliable arch through the snow
displacing a volume of snow into the air from the line of the descent path.

Weather Notes:

This is just about the most perfect Ski Conditions, very easy,
yet all winter, hourly Open Hours weather forecast profile you
could imagine. Every day at Tremblant is great in some unique
form, but when you see this hourly outlook “Ideal” springs to mind.

Conditions Notes:

The 5 cm’s of new snowfall with fresh grooming should produce
some remarkably fine trail surfaces. There may be some variability
if grooming was done before/after/during the snow arrival, but that
will only be like adding frosting on the cake, if that was the case
for any trail(s).

It is our hypothesis that within Sub-Zero C temp ranges, groomed
trail surfaces always seem to improve in grip, speed and forgiveness
as temps rise, so we think you can expect to see higher levels of
easy performance evolve over the day. What that really means on
a day with this hourly, upward temp progression, is primarily that
however firm the groomed surfaces are to begin with, they will likely
become slightly softer in the top layers which should facilitate a
higher degree of “banking” effect in edge-set, carving style technique.
For any Advanced or Expert Skier/Boarder, this additional level of
lateral edge hold throughout linked turn sequences should yield an
outstanding high speed turning capability. With good edges on Skis
or Board, we think that today an athletic Expert should be able to generate
in excess of 1G of lateral turning force where pitch and empty open
space safely permit. For Experts, what that means is you should be able
to replicate the turning force illustrated in our One-Pic Performance
Sample, above, all day long with increasing capability.

For Beginners and Intermediates on lesser angled slopes, one of the
practical aspects of this scenario is that as the day progresses and
your confidence level increases with repetition, the increase in forgiveness,
i.e., the ability of the surfaces to absorb little errors without grabbing
and edge or tripping you up, should allow you to easily attempt steeper
terrain challenge or higher speeds with noticeably more assertive control.
We think today is going to be an outstanding day for learning progression.

Otherwise, we are hopeful that as the snow piles up and Mountain Crews get
through the core of the groomed list, that we may possibly see some of the
lesser traveled, but periodically groomed trails get a pass or two as the recent
warm/froze cycles have generated difficulty/hazard issues as a consequence
of irregular substrates that can not be seen from the surface.

In the Sous Bois, Glades, Hors Piste, and Un-Groomed, there has been 42 cm’s
of fresh snowfall in the last several days... as you can imagine, there are big,
big, positive differences as a result.

There are still a la Carte’ cautions though, some of the more well traveled
mogul runs have the odd rocky bits poking through. For one example,
by just around noon, when there’s been sufficient traffic, any ride up
the Duncan Quad will probably reveal some of these bits on Trail # 63,
Les Rapides as the lift rises over the crests adjacent to the Expo Sector Peak.
The caution bit is that while you can see some of the hazards riding up
easily enough, virtually none of them are visible from above while descending,
so if you want to avoid ski/board base “encounters”, slow, 100% speed and
directional control is necessary.

In the mean-time, in the Open Hors Piste...

If you step off your Skis into the deep untracked powder, you’ll sink into
snow up to your waist in many places but your boots will not be on the
ground because you are “floating” on the bridge of snow between your legs.

As A Reminder...
Here is another version of our last “Proof Of Snow” from 4 days ago

And There Is Another 20 cm’s On Top Of This...

:) Bring Back The Memories... Research Future Visits...
If you would like to look up dates you visited Tremblant, or you
want to research days/weeks/months to visit, you can sample what
they look like historically, month by month, year by year.

When reviewing dates from any of the past, numbered, archived pages,
you can use the "Previous Topic" or "Next Topic" buttons, located
screen far right, in upper date/message bar to scroll through sequential
dates, or use your browsers "back" button to stay on the selected index
page for non-sequential date reviews in either forward or reverse order.

There are approximately 6, 25 day Index pages per season.

( If you "Bookmark" the link above, it will always take you to the
First index page with the latest posts. That gives you an immediate,
current to 25 day past, review scroll of Winter Alpine Conditions by
consecutive date.)
