T360 Prime-Time Apres Ski Edit, Under Progressive Construction @ 9:31 P.M.

User Friendly Winter.

Today might turn out to be the end of the “Pure Winter” string of days
that we’ve enjoyed for many, many weeks as the temps are set to burp
well into the “Plus” values for the first time in a long time, tomorrow.

Today, another day of superlative high performance across the whole
range of Groomed terrain from Beginner/Greens to Expert/Blacks.

The next question we’ve already gotten is how could tomorrow’s
change in weather effect things. It’s March, the effects we could
see are the earliest signs of typical Spring, an initial softening,
followed by overnight sub-zero’s. The laws of physics apply.
At least for tomorrow, we have a sunny start to the warmup.

The rainy bits forecast for Thursday are still too far out to know
what the potential there is, however the hourly forecast is still
showing “Light Rain” icons, which around here, means the Mountain
could escape much or all rainy bits because the Light Rain indications
imply small, localized, passing bands of active weather that often
cruise through the valley’s and by-pass the higher elevations.

More in the morning when we should see some more
evolution in the weather forecast. Spring Skiing for sure,
for at least about 4 days...

4:57 A.M Early-Bird Post to accommodate Site Logistics,
more to follow as time permits, but it’s literally the very best
of winter and if there is any possible way you can safely go,
you should not miss it.

Conditions Notes:

In The Groomed:

Exceptionally fine groomed conditions are seamlessly supported
across the entire Skill Level range by all recent cold formed natural
snowfall plus weeks of consecutive days of Mountain Op’s overnight
grooming refinement cycles.

With almost no significant thermal intrusions for many, many weeks,
the stability of the snow within the compacted top layers is extraordinary.

The top Le Tunnel pic. in this post is a current extension of the ultimate
grooming refinements status Tremblant’ Mountain Op’s have achieved.
Fabulous, spectacular grooming efforts by Mountain Crews.

There are some very small areas around trail intersections or convergence
where the compaction is so dense, combined with passing traffic, that it
becomes highly polished snow, but there is virtually no, zero, nada, ice of
any significance, anywhere.

If you do not have recent tuned edges, you may think some of those areas
are slick or icy, but that would actually be the lack of mechanical grip from
dull, rounded, worn edges that will not hold edge-set angulation.

We rode up the Expo Quad a couple of days ago(as properly social distanced singles
at opposite ends of the chair) with a very nice person from the South Shore Montreal
area who’s comment was “A Bit Icy”, but when asked when his very good quality, top
name brand GS Skis had last been tuned... This season? "um... no...", Last season?,
“um... no...”How many seasons ago? “um... not sure, I actually can’t remember...”

Do Not Bring Your Ferrari To The Race Track With Flat Tires.

But That Is The Exact Analogy Appropriate For Dull, Worn Edges At Any Ski Hill. Period.

We are having the very best Quad-Muscle-Busting, Super-High-Performance,
Rocket-Fast, Surgical-Carving, 100% Reliable, Lateral Grip Edge-Set, SL Style
Technical Skiing Experience Of The Season... with our Decade old, faithful old SL
Rec.Race Skis that were last tuned about 10 days ago and they still cut like a Surgeon
with a sharp scalpel.
What that proves is... you don’t need no fancy new skis
to have every day be a great day, if you just periodically tune up your existing
old gear.

Key Point:
Chances are if you’re a reader here, you already know this, the point then
becomes “Don’t let your friends come to the Mountain without promoting
the value of tuned gear.” Tuned gear can change their whole day from mediocre
to excellent, and over the life of a tune ups effective span, it is absolutely the
very cheapest cost per day to optimize the value of any lift pass/ticket,
not to mention that if they have an “Excellent Day”, they are more likely to
come back, and the sport needs that to survive.

In The Sous Bois/Glades/Hors Piste/Un-Groomed:

The Sous Bois is mostly excellent, however, there are some traffic related
hazards exposures that are not always visible from the descent lines above.
For that reason, initial explorations where traffic patterns are established
should be undertaken with line-of-sight stopping or directional change
capability. Some of the mogul cuts are very steep on the downside and if
you pop over one too fast, momentum can carry you right over rock that
can not be seen until you are almost on top of it. Slow down on first go’s.

In the Hors Piste, there are still some sectors of un-tracked fresh
snow and it is all super-light, fluffy, cold-formed Eastern Powder.

:) Bring Back The Memories... Research Future Visits...
If you would like to look up dates you visited Tremblant, or you
want to research days/weeks/months to visit, you can sample what
they look like historically, month by month, year by year.

When reviewing dates from any of the past, numbered, archived pages,
you can use the "Previous Topic" or "Next Topic" buttons, located
screen far right, in upper date/message bar to scroll through sequential
dates, or use your browsers "back" button to stay on the selected index
page for non-sequential date reviews in either forward or reverse order.

There are approximately 6, 25 day Index pages per season.

( If you "Bookmark" the link above, it will always take you to the
First index page with the latest posts. That gives you an immediate,
current to 25 day past, review scroll of Winter Alpine Conditions by
consecutive date.)
