We do not think you could get a more focused understanding of the quality
of the descent carving experience than this photo above. This clearly illustrates
the edge-set support capability in virtually the entire array of groomed top
layers at Tremblant right now.
The arch in the skis is the result of totally contained lateral exerted force and
they are bending into a perfect curve that this Expert smoothy, gracefully applies
over the course of alternating right/left turns that are a very rhythmically linked
pattern of sequential, top-level, athletic execution. A day of this kind of total physical
immersion in Downhill Alpine Skiing at a peak of refined technical skill is what
we would generally define as ideal, and right now at Tremblant, and no matter
your preference for style or challenge, we think you will be able to find your
very own ideal Front Side Groomed conditions.
Top-To-Bottom, Wall-To-Wall... great winter coverages.
We think those will carry forward for at least for the next few days.

The Full And Complete Return Of “Winter”
In Look And Groomed Performance.
Observe the satin-like look of the snow in the foreground of
the posted pic’s, it is an extremely fine(small) particle size of
very dry crystalline form that makes lousy(bad) Snowballs,
but skis “Fast”. After another overnight low of close to -20 C,
we can say today is going to be a virtual repeat.

Cool through tomorrow, then, evidently, another shot of “Spring”...
The main functional difference for today, compared to yesterdays
“Howler”, will be the far lower wind velocity that should make today
far more tolerable for extended outdoor hours of activity.

Conditions Notes:
In the Groomed:
We estimate the overall Groomed trail surfaces are roughly 97.378% ice free,
super-fast Winter snow that has very low friction and excellent edge-set/turning
grip. For Beginners just starting out in the Greens, the satin-like smoothness makes
learning easy. Control moves can be made with confidence, and generally,
these are conditions that make you look good!
The recent warm spell with the upward spike in temps that touched +11C/51F,
was enough to generate some “Flow Zones” of surface pooling that are now
re-froze into icy bits that are primarily in shallow depressions between the
contour peaks in some descent lines. They are easy to see ahead and consequently
easy to avoid, so in the “Big Picture” balance of things, it’s actually surprising
that they are so small in square area after the heat wave.
At March 15 of any Ski Season, solar heat cycles are not surprising. The sun is
high enough in the sky to remind you that winter is quickly fading, even with
the cool in the air, you can instantly feel heat in the mid-day sun if your standing
in a wind sheltered spot.
Please Note:
There is a “Middle Ground” that for todays purposes we will call “Recently Groomed” trails,
and one of the very best examples is our Versant Nord/North Side ongoing case study of
Trail # 66, Le Tunnel. This is a very good illustration of a trail that was originally groomed
some 10 days ago, then temporarily closed due to the weather for a few days, but has now
been reopened. We could not be more thrilled to report that it is still in very fine shape as a
descent path that has survived with an amazing degree of utility that is remarkably hazard free.

We were lucky enough to be able to find an Expert Skier Volunteer to
help document the Le Tunnel conditions you see above. It is one thing
to take a static trail POV shot and talk about the snow depth and the
performance characteristics, but one look at the active dynamics you
see above says way more than any words alone could express and we
are most appreciative for this great Expert Skills display. What you see
above is the virtually very “Winter” retained conditions here with a very
obvious shred-depth for maximum turning bite, and while there are some
crusty bits left from the warm spell, they are not significant in relation to
the total square area, nor do they take away from the either application of
skills, or the enjoyment of the descent.
Summary:
All snow/grooming/traffic/heat/cool/sun/shade/open/closed co-factors
have worked to preserve this gem. Le Tunnel is a harmonious blend of easy
Expert challenge and fun with remarkably little iciness or exposure to
natural hazards.
In the Sous Bois/Glade/Hors Piste/Un-Groomed:
This is the group of trails that are most sensitive to the
recent weather cycles and consequently the most affected
in terms of closures and/or durability from traffic/wear patterns.
There are various natural hazards and explorations should
be undertaken with every caution possible for line-of-sight
navigation where speed and direction can be instantly altered
for safe descent. The new snow is just enough to cover some
hazards but not enough to float over them, so if you want to
avoid “Precambrian Encounters”, go slow.
The bottom line on conditions at this stage:
The excellence is in the resilience of the Groomed, and
without more snow, the Un-Groomed/Sous Bois are in a
somewhat tender state of very wide ranging individualistic
conditions.
