Everything we wrote about the cold-preserved speed,
combined with the comfort of just below Zero C up
on the Mountain worked out almost perfectly to generate
a most unique day of groomed, really fast, excellence.

If The Temp’s Stay Cool Up On Mountain Elevations,
We May Get Away With Another One For Tomorrow?

This Might Be The Last -20 C Overnight Low Of The Season...

and there’s a reason why that’s important...

If you look at the shoreline above, if you look at the hazy appearance of the Mountain,
that’s actually horizontally propelled snow moving from left to right. It’s been like
this for the past couple of days. It feels like winter, especially with the Summit temps
at around -17 C, however clinically speaking, the Ski experience is still very fine to
excellent across the Groomed array due to both the pre-existing full winter wall-to-wall
coverage being mostly intact, and the very consistent efforts of the Mountain Op’s
night-shift, every night, without fail.

That’s all going to change today with a 20 C temp rise. Things are definitely headed
in an upward, very much “Spring” trend and each and every solid hour of sub-zero C now,
pays winter forward in what we refer to as “Thermal Momentum”. That is where the conical
mass of the Mountain absorbs “Cold”, in the form of frost penetration to a deeper depth,
then, when the “Heat” arrives, that depth of frost acts as stored refrigerant that forms a
barrier, and then takes weeks to radiate outwardly. Looking at the 14 Long Range Weather
Trends, we’re going to need every hour of cool we can get, in order to keep as much of this
great trail surface coverage and quality as possible.

Additionally, in the immediate “Today” time-frame, the importance of the cold is the
extraordinary performance that authentic, genuine, real, cold winter snow has.

The Skiing is so good, the experience of superlative responsiveness in the dry, fast
surfaces is so wonderful, you simply don’t notice the cool so much because you get lost
in the joy of the sport, not to mention that you are working at an athletic level of energy
output that literally warms you up to the point of sometimes feeling hot.

Weather Notes:

Cool this morning, and tomorrow morning too, but take a close look at
the next 14 days... “Spring” daytime high temps for sure. Fortunately the
overnight lows all look pretty much sub-zero C’s, so that should really help
extend the coverages, but the daily oscillations above/below the freezing
mark will generate the typical “Spring” in the range of Open Hours where
morning surfaces are firm, and afternoons are soft.

We’ve had these immaculate all snow, genuine winter conditions for over 2.5 months
and virtually every day has had this kind of performance from Summit to Base.

Conditions Notes:

In The Groomed:
Today has the potential to be a very specifically sweet day in that the
ambient air temps are going to rise about 20 degrees C, but the surfaces
will retain about 95.432%(#) of the almost ice-free quality and cold performance
characteristics they are currently still absorbing.

What this means is the very brief coinciding existence of all winter underfoot,
i.e., super-fine performance, but with the combination of wonderfully easy
super-comfortable atmospheric temps.

We think today may have this very select “Best Of Both Worlds” potential across
the entire open Groomed and recently Groomed trail network.

((#) There are some icy bits left over from the last heat cycle, however,
right this second, by comparison to the total square area of the open
groomed terrain they are tiny/minor, are visibly avoidable, and do not
detract from the overall quality.)

In the Sous Bois, Glades, Hors Piste, and Un-Groomed:
It is critical to explore initial runs with slow speed for immediate line-of-sight
hazard avoidance. There are natural hazards that are not visible from sight lines
above. If you are going at any significant speed, you will not see some of them
until you are already on top of them. Take all hand posted Ski Patrol signage seriously.

There are still zones of very fine coverage, but you need to seek them
out with great care.

:) Bring Back The Memories... Research Future Visits...
If you would like to look up dates you visited Tremblant, or you
want to research days/weeks/months to visit, you can sample what
they look like historically, month by month, year by year.

When reviewing dates from any of the past, numbered, archived pages,
you can use the "Previous Topic" or "Next Topic" buttons, located
screen far right, in upper date/message bar to scroll through sequential
dates, or use your browsers "back" button to stay on the selected index
page for non-sequential date reviews in either forward or reverse order.

There are approximately 6, 25 day Index pages per season.

( If you "Bookmark" the link above, it will always take you to the
First index page with the latest posts. That gives you an immediate,
current to 25 day past, review scroll of Winter Alpine Conditions by
consecutive date.)
