Once you’ve got a few shots of the spectacular scenery,
it’s time to get busy with turns...

Technical Skiing On Soft Spring Snow... A Very Definite Work Out!

Fresh Mountain air, great aerobic exercise, fantastic Tremblant scenery,
wide challenge variety for all skill levels, it all ads up to very satisfying
days on the Spring slopes. At the end of the day, we can’t think of any
other sport that leaves you with both the sense of accomplishment and
total physical engagement. It’s a privilege not to be taken for granted,
especially in the late days of the season when the warm weather is telling
you it’s a limited time Mother Nature offer.

Weather Notes:

What we like is a bit of overcast to keep the solar intensity low
and we also like the small rain icons that usually indicate passing
bands of precipitation activity that can be small in area and
transit rapidly. In most similar cases historically, the Mountain
gets away with much less, or even no precip., compared to ground
base levels.

In The Groomed:

What is Open is actually very fine, especially with the overnight grooming
and so-far great natural speed being retained almost everywhere. For sure
the warmth has generated some small saturated flow-zones that are higher
friction, but it’s been really easy to match pitch-angles/slope, with speed
and multi-skill-sets to have an entire day either of full-tilt technical descents
or super-smooth learning progressions.

As usual, the Mountain surprises you with the breadth and scope of its open
variety. The all day durability of the current smooth, mogul resistant base,
despite some really intense recent solar energy, just seems to be hanging in
there with remarkable tenacity. There are zones of visible ground exposure
on some Sud/South and Soleil direct afternoon solar exposed contours, but
so far they are still quite small and very easy to pass around. There are some
exposed bits on Nord/North too, but they are primarily on trail edges where
Mountain Crews have harvested from outboard edges to fill in trail centres.

For today specifically, what we anticipate is that as a direct benefit of more
forecasted overcast, a shade umbrella function may be realized where the
lack of so much direct solar exposure may result in more even, and more
durable consistency across all Open sides of the groomed. We also expect
to see less traffic that would be typical of a mid weekday, so that too could
be an asset for reduced stress on soft surfaces.

The Sous Bois/Glades/Hors Piste Report:

There are still zones of very good depth reserve especially on Nord/North.

There is no doubt that the string of recent warm days has reduced
the depths everywhere, but to a certain degree, that is only apparent
in some Nord/North sectors because the “Loft” is less, so the amount
of snow is mostly still there, but it is more compactly dense, with less
fluffy internal air-space. What that means is potential for the following
weeks of a density that can withstand quite a bit of heat without
accelerated loss.

Ignore the wind-driven forest debris you see below, it’s all just tiny
tree bits that are soft, clean and get left on top because they don’t melt
when the snow pack recedes. What is important here is the remaining
overall sector depths that are providing the stability of conditions for
the entire surrounding area of this Versant Nord/North Side Lowell
Thomas Sector trail-side sample.

With some 25 or so days remaining in the Official Open calendar, what you
see above is one of the fundamental reasons Tremblant has the potential
to go the distance within the reserves of its 4 compass-point sides, if the
balance of weather co-factors between now and then are favourable.

-------------- 10:38 A.M. Insert Update: ---------------------

The following 3 pic's from this morning are excellent
examples of how the “Proof Of Snow” sample above has
direct relevance to Groomed conditions in adjacent zones.

What you see here is an abundance of trail-side snowpack in these zones that
reflects the benefits of the naturally more shaded Versant Nord/North Side
terrain combined with the retained seasonal accumulations that are now
integrated into the groomed trail bases. All of that is being simultaneously
supported by a still very healthy frost level underneath.

:) Bring Back The Memories... Research Future Visits...
If you would like to look up dates you visited Tremblant, or you
want to research days/weeks/months to visit, you can sample what
they look like historically, month by month, year by year.

When reviewing dates from any of the past, numbered, archived pages,
you can use the "Previous Topic" or "Next Topic" buttons, located
screen far right, in upper date/message bar to scroll through sequential
dates, or use your browsers "back" button to stay on the selected index
page for non-sequential date reviews in either forward or reverse order.

There are approximately 6, 25 day Index pages per season.

( If you "Bookmark" the link above, it will always take you to the
First index page with the latest posts. That gives you an immediate,
current to 25 day past, review scroll of Winter Alpine Conditions by
consecutive date.)
