T360 Prime Time Apres Ski Edit, Under Construction @ 8:13 P.M.

The Hourly Weather Forecast Was Quite Accurate
And Right About Noon, It Began To Really Clear Off.

If you can detect a slight haziness, that’s because at +17 C, with some genuine
humidity rolling around up there, there was a hazy-warm tinge to the air.
If it wasn’t for the snow and the skiing, there were times when you could
close your eyes and the touch of the breezes almost felt like the soft warmth
of an early spring day in Fort Lauderdale...

Right at about that very warm moment though, the “Breezes” would turn into
a gust of cool and Zap!.... back to reality and time to have some real fun with
gravity, albeit unseasonably warm.

(Above:The dark debris you see is about 99.286% wind blown tree
needles and bark bits that have accumulated in the snow strata
over the whole season, and when the snow melts, they don’t, so
they get left on top. They are clean, soft and don’t affect skis or
skiing in any way.)

Despite all the warm, almost everywhere, there were many sectors Sud/South
and especially Nord/North, that seemed to defy that warmth and in so doing,
delivered “Wow” Firm, Fast, Extraordinary Fall-Line Fun!!!

In that category, no doubt in our minds, the “Cool Performance du Jour Award"
goes to..
.

Beauchemin Haut/Upper, 100% Reliable, Slightly Soft, Slightly Firm
Super Fast And Super Fun!!!

By looking at the relationship between the dimensions of Beauchemin Haut/Upper
to the size of the people that give a human scale of reference, you can see the
absolutely huge square area that you have to work with here. So not only do
you have great conditions, but the vast scope of the coverage allows you an
nearly incredible amount of flexibility in style execution from tight fall-line SL,
to ultra-wide Super-G, or any degree of mix-it-up. You figuratively have such
a huge blank canvass to work with that you almost feel compelled to make
multiple runs here just for the sheer joy of such an immense amount of wide
open space to explore and play with. It’s like dancing with a perfect partner
who can telepathically match your any changing style, move for move, without
missing a single beat.

There were many other examples of surprisingly firm, fast descents such
as Beauvallon Haut/Upper, McCulloch and Duncan that may be some of
the most noteworthy.

Unfortunately, the warmth has reduced depth margins in some zones, so
it is unlikely we’ll see some trails reopen unless there’s some sort of blizzard
because the reserves are just not there to harvest recovery, especially considering
the current, near-term weather forecast that is calling for some pretty significant
additional rain and warmth.

One things for sure, we think the Tremblant Mountain Op’s Group has
maximized the yield from every single snowflake over the last 3 weeks
or so, since the last big natural snowstorm, and we are very thankful
for the superb effort they’ve made to stretch out the snow resources
to provide exceptional day after day quality and coverage.

For tomorrow... a big dose of warm spring rain with the heaviest
period right smack-dab in the middle of Open Hours. Skiing is
typically very fine, but dry comfort a challenge. It is likely the
attendance will be light. Open Trail Count may vary widely.

Point #1)

If It’s Open, And There’s A Way To The Top, We’ll Ski It.

Point # 2)

If It’s Open, There’s Always Great Skiing Within The Available Terrain.

With that in mind, the complexity of todays conditions
includes multiple compounding/inter-reacting wild cards
that are somewhat unpredictable in precise detail. It needs
to be noted that includes the current overwhelming overcast
to be a clearing sky and the eventual forecast of “Sunny”.

So, the only thing to focus on is the basic existence of
a very large, frozen, conical object, about 25 kilometres in
base circumference that we are going to call “Mt Tremblant”.

This large conical object which rises upwards some 645 Metres
or 2120 Feet, has been very well frozen for almost 3 months
and most of that “Frozen” is still embedded within the conical mass
where it is acting as a stored refrigerant that supports the
mantle of compacted snow on the groomed Alpine Ski Trail
Network.

That’s why, wet or not, there’s going to be some technically very
fine Skiing on the Open trails today, regardless of this current
spike in early spring warm weather.

Obviously the reduced Open Trail Count reflects the fact that weather is
having a profound effect. Normally, “+” value temps in the 7 to 16 degrees C,
plus rain, are not generally used in the same sentence as “Snow” for
too long. However, “too long” in the case of Tremblant’s Spring Ski
conditions has the capacity to be often measured in weeks. Additionally,
to a degree, some of the trail closures may be temporary in order to preserve
terrain that may become available again if future weather cycles that predict
cooler temps and natural snowfall become reality.

The most intense period for tomorrow is between 10:00 A.M.
and 2:00 P.M. If you are regionally road-tripping to get
here for tomorrow, this may also be a concern. It is our policy
to add all Official Weather Warnings when they occur.

Conditions Notes:

One positive potential here is that as the rainy bits developed,
overnight, the cloud ceiling became very low over the Summit,
covering almost the entire Mountain vertical rise in cloud-fog
this morning. What we like to point out is that rain sort-of likes
to fall under the cloud and not always so much in the cloud, so
that can mean the trail network may not have gotten as much as
ground levels. Additionally, all that remains of the overnight precip.
is the fog, so we should at least be dry all day.

Secondly, the frozen mass of the Mountain supporting the trail
base, generates a barrier effect and in the initial stages of spring
seasonal changes, this facilitates run-off rather than deep saturation.

The softness of the mostly sun-soaked slopes of recent days is still quite
fast, so that is another positive potential for today if it carries forward. Soft
snow is usually easy to initiate control moves in as the ability of Ski/Board
edges to grip is very reliable. What we hope for is that the shreddable top
layers don’t become to heavy or tracked, but with it being a mid-week
work-day, the likelihood is that the traffic will be light, so there should
not be much wear stress on trail surfaces.

The bottom line here is that there should be very fine technical ski
surfaces and... if/when the hourly weather progresses to clear up
to “Sunny" as the forecast suggests, it could well end up being a
great Spring Skiing day all the way around.

(Please Note:
The number and intensity of variable conditions factors are
why you should scroll back up to the “Apres Ski” notes for
today if you have got this far in the post during any future review.)

Please Note: Due to the number of “Progressive”/Gradual openings
combined with variable weather factors, the Open Trail Count may
change either up or down during open hours. If you are on the Mountain
today, consult with Tremblant Info.Ski Crews for best results.

:) Bring Back The Memories... Research Future Visits...
If you would like to look up dates you visited Tremblant, or you
want to research days/weeks/months to visit, you can sample what
they look like historically, month by month, year by year.

When reviewing dates from any of the past, numbered, archived pages,
you can use the "Previous Topic" or "Next Topic" buttons, located
screen far right, in upper date/message bar to scroll through sequential
dates, or use your browsers "back" button to stay on the selected index
page for non-sequential date reviews in either forward or reverse order.

There are approximately 6, 25 day Index pages per season.

( If you "Bookmark" the link above, it will always take you to the
First index page with the latest posts. That gives you an immediate,
current to 25 day past, review scroll of Winter Alpine Conditions by
consecutive date.)
