Despite Adverse Weather Cycles...

The Base Reserves Are In Fine Shape.

So far, the impressive part is the wall-to-wall, summit-to-base continuity
of groomed trail surfaces Mountain Crews have been able to produce after
the rainy periods.

Examples like Versant Soleil Algonquin, Versant Sud/South Nansen and
Versant Nord/North descent line Rope Tow to Rigodon are all in very fine
shape and they are typical of almost everything on the Opened, groomed list.

We think this Nansen example below captures the essence of the
“reserve” reference because if you look at the frame-left, trail-side
snow-pack, the effects of warm and rain are quite obvious in the
reduction of trail-side bush snow. However, if you look closely at the
frame-right side of the groomed trail edge, up beside the skier farthest
away, we estimate the level’d depth to be somewhere around 1.5 metres
thick, and that reserve has been in place there for months.

Weather Notes:

At the early hour this post initially begins, so far it is dry at
Sud/South base levels adjacent to the Resort, however the
Summit is not visible due to a very low ceiling of cloud-fog.
If the reality is consistent with the hourly forecast, the “dry”
part is not likely to last for very long. If the light rain icons
signify anything to us, it’s that the active precipitation is
typically in bands that traverse the area quite quickly, and
additionally with the low cloud ceiling, the rainy bits tend to
be in the lower valley portions under the cloud.

Back To Basics...

When Mother Nature causes warm spring weather trail reductions.

In last nights Apres Ski edit we featured a look at a Versant Nord/North Side
descent path/circuit we really enjoy athletic lapping on when the traffic is low
because it really minimizes lift times with the new Lowell Thomas high speed
detachable quad. Throughout the season it has also been one of the very best
natural snowfall accumulation zones on the Mountain, which now becomes an
important reserve element as the season draws to within three weeks of closing.

We think this is worth a repeat mention as the basic pathways utilizing the Lowell
Thomas Quad Peak as a starting point, actually have around a dozen options from
P’tit Bonheur on one outboard side, to Marie-Claude Asselin on the other outboard
side. The secret to the massive vertical you can achieve is the absolutely profound
increase in upload speed the new Lowell T Quad delivers that make 7/8 minute
very safe speed laps possible within this sector when there are no lines.

Conditions Notes:

With this weather... Many, many wild cards, but all of them
over a very stable base on the open, groomed primary trail list.
In the un-groomed and the periodically groomed, there are highly
individual conditions but in each case there are obvious descent lines
that with careful/cautious speed permit hazard avoidance.

There are zones of reduced coverage, but there are also very
clear bridges of Ski Patrol marked passage either around or
through these zones and compared to the total open square
area they are very small and they tend to be in connector paths
of entry or exit from the main boulevards.

:) Bring Back The Memories... Research Future Visits...
If you would like to look up dates you visited Tremblant, or you
want to research days/weeks/months to visit, you can sample what
they look like historically, month by month, year by year.

When reviewing dates from any of the past, numbered, archived pages,
you can use the "Previous Topic" or "Next Topic" buttons, located
screen far right, in upper date/message bar to scroll through sequential
dates, or use your browsers "back" button to stay on the selected index
page for non-sequential date reviews in either forward or reverse order.

There are approximately 6, 25 day Index pages per season.

( If you "Bookmark" the link above, it will always take you to the
First index page with the latest posts. That gives you an immediate,
current to 25 day past, review scroll of Winter Alpine Conditions by
consecutive date.)
