T360 Prime Time Apres Ski Edit Under Progressive Assembly At 9:31 P.M.

There is Great Spring Snow In Every Open
Tremblant Sector, However...

We will give you one clue to where we think
some of the very best Spring Skiing snow in
Eastern North America is...

See if you can figure this one out...

Regarding the reference we make in the original post below about
Versant Sud/South Side McCulloch....

Shred City, Man!

So, as sweet as McCulloch was from the combination of pitch and fast soft shred,
you could find all the performance with some fine grippy shredding on the Nord/North
too. The Nord/North just had a tiny positive edge up in substrate firmness. Below is a
shred-carve sample from the Duncan Summit pitch.

The other condition factors that help the Nord/North right now are that
not only does it seem to have retained a greater degree of its accumulations,
Hors Piste, which is evident to us in adjacent open groomed trail depth, but it
did get a little dusting of snow-cover on the tail end of the last precip. event to
enhance the white cosmetic appeal ski trails naturally look good with.

Above:
In our opinion, what you need to easily punch through the current shallow top layers of really
soft spring snow(with the quick maneuverability necessary when some hazards are beginning
to show) are narrower, short skis, with high torsional rigidity. Accordingly, we’ve switched to
some old race-stock FIS SL’s out of the basement corner that have narrower widths, but still
a very short 12M turning radius. They have less frontal cross-section that can easily pierce
the soft, thick, ridges of mushy snow and... they can carve turns like snakes.

For tomorrow... some more of them warm, Spring, rainy bits... kinda like
“April Showers”... on the last day of March... The good news is that we could
actually get a fair bit of snowfall over the following couple days...

Proof Of Cool.

It’s all that “White” you see, especially the white parts that are
not trails. When there’s enough ambient cool to retain the bush
snow as you can see in this pic. taken yesterday afternoon at just
past 2:00 P.M., you can tell that the adjacent Open Terrain is going
to be fine.

Why Patience Is A Virtue...

Why Is Versant Sud/South Side McCulloch Going To Be So Good Today?

Zooming in from the lake-view wide-angle, it’s not hard to see that
Trail # 18, McCulloch, is looking very fine indeed. The reason for that
is Racing. McCulloch is as very fine Race Course descent due to the
very even consistency of both pitch and width, so it frequently has the
benefit of substantial preparation and protection in order to keep
optimized surfaces for scheduled competition events. This was exactly
the case when it was wonderfully prepared late last week, then closed
on Saturday for a scheduled Race event on Sunday. Yesterday it was initially
shown a “Progressive” or expected opening, but on the mid-day revised
open list it was shown as closed, so, for those that have the patience to
wait for it, today should see it as an example of extraordinarily fine
conditions.

This “Race” designation on the Open Trail List is always an insight into
where great conditions are going to found for future public access and
today we see that Versant Sud/South Side Trail # 7, “Alpine” has the
“Race” icon on it, so there’s your hint for “Great” when you see on the
list next time as public access Open.

Another previous “Race” designated trail open today is Versant Nord/North Side
Trail # 69, “Rigodon” so we think it will be excellent for that reason. The open
portions of the Lowell Thomas Sector have been great all along as they get way
less direct solar heat exposure, so we think lapping on the Lowell Thomas Quad
should be all day fun and fast.

Weather Notes:

More Literal “Proof Of Cool”.

At Least To Start With...

We are very grateful to Mother Nature for just about every second of “Cool”
she can deliver at this stage of seasonal evolution as these stabilizing
contributions to the integrity and durability of the base are absolutely
necessary to preserve as much available terrain as possible.

Of course it means some very typical Spring early morning froze,
afternoon super-soft, but what we are hoping for is the retention
of the speed that the early part is going to have, through to the
balance of the day.

Conditions Notes:

Common “Spring” daily surface profile where -5C overnight, moving
dramatically upward to +14 C by last run, generates the necessity for
both sharp, fresh edges to handle the solid morning, and a warm
temp range base wax/coating to reduce surface moisture related
drag in the afternoon.

We would like to point out that Ski base and edge maintenance for
well optimized control and speed retention is taking us about 10
minutes or so, every 3 to 4 days. Basically, we give the edges a quick
lick at the tips and tails, by hand, with a good edge file, then we quickly
coat the bases with the hydrophobic polymer we use. The net effect is
“Zip-Zap-Zoom” control and speed enhancement for multiple days.

One of our “Pet Peeves” at this stage of any season is the whining
we hear about performance issues when literally 10 minutes every
few days can make huge functional/utility differences, so we have
very little sympathy for the loud noise emanating from those who
are not willing to make a really small effort for a really big advantage.

:) Bring Back The Memories... Research Future Visits...
If you would like to look up dates you visited Tremblant, or you
want to research days/weeks/months to visit, you can sample what
they look like historically, month by month, year by year.

When reviewing dates from any of the past, numbered, archived pages,
you can use the "Previous Topic" or "Next Topic" buttons, located
screen far right, in upper date/message bar to scroll through sequential
dates, or use your browsers "back" button to stay on the selected index
page for non-sequential date reviews in either forward or reverse order.

There are approximately 6, 25 day Index pages per season.

( If you "Bookmark" the link above, it will always take you to the
First index page with the latest posts. That gives you an immediate,
current to 25 day past, review scroll of Winter Alpine Conditions by
consecutive date.)
