T360 Prime Time Apres Ski Edit, Under Construction At 9:01 P.M.

Anyone who doubts you can have great fun on a rainy day
needs to take a close look at this...

We May Have Been A Wee Bit Wet, But...

Mother Nature Gifted Us With Totally Unexpected Wicked Fast Speed!

If you mix in the very high control capability and traction of Spring snow
with the unusual, almost unbelievable amount of speed, it all added up to
so much fun we sort-of, almost, nearly, lost track of being mildly soaked!

If anything, wet spring snow can be a bit prone to sticky bits, but definitely
not today. “Rocket Fast” is all we can say and the fun of it all was completely
captivating in a wonderfully distracting way... however...

Despite Foul-Weather gear, despite Descente Poncho, when it gets
to a certain point the wet works in anyway. Fortunately, the morning
was mostly dry. Even the wet bits of the afternoon were sporadic though.
There were times when it was almost “Teaming”, there were times when
there was nothing, it was mostly foggy, a few brief moments of clear,
a real mix it up authentic spring skiing day of flying in and under the
cloud with genuine high performance speed, control and FUN!

One thing you need to remember about these kinds of days is the basic
mechanical advantage of being warm to begin with. We’re very much used
to months of “Winter”, so anything this warm already feels like a day at the
beach, at least temperature-wise, and that makes it easier too.

There was a significant mechanical disadvantage for photography. Quite close
to futile for camera deployment, except for a few moments, including the one
above, which was not much more than good luck, but we’re super-happy to have
because it almost captures the essence of the whole day in a single stop-action
fraction of a second.

The only other practical moment(if you could call it that), for a pic was this one below
on Versant Nord/North Side Superieur.

Today is a warm, rainy day, so besides skiing with the
trusty Descente Poncho, we can also A) remember yesterday,
and B) look forward to tomorrow.

Weather Notes:

For today’s specific Open Hours, we consider it lucky that the
heavy/steady rainfall icons have moved out of the mid-day
hourly progression. This means that with the light icons, the
precipitation occurs typically in bands of passing activity that
frequently by-pass the Mountain, or if/when they touch the
Mountain, they are short and very small localized bits that
can be quickly transient, and may only cover rotating square
areas of literally a few trails while everything else stays dry.

We could be wrong, but it is possible that Mountain Elevations
could actually end up being dry most, if not all day.

For Today, Think Of This, Minus The Sunshine...

This below is a totally random Skier on the Duncan Summit pitch
who will probably never know this great pic. of very good technical
skills exists. What we like to point out is the smile of accomplished
satisfaction that we see as being the joy of the moment, except in
this case, the “Moment” is about 4.5 Kilometres long, as Duncan was
similarly fast and evenly shreddable from Summit-To-Base. If you can
do turns at this level for entire descents, again, and again, and again
some more until it’s a whole day, you’d be smiling too.

Conditions Notes:

Warm Soft Spring Snow... everywhere.

Typically, steeper gets easier.

The benefit of overcast today may be in more consistent
speed without solar energy adding excessive saturations.

If we are even a tiny fraction of right about little or passing
rainy bits, the loose top layers could be very effective at wicking off
dampness which could actually leave a relatively dry “Corn Snow”
as the primary top layer. This type of snow can often have very
low running friction and is sometimes functionally like “Ball Bearings”
under Skis/Board, with inherently great speed.

Where pooling or saturations can occur, it can be like a high speed
encounter with Velcro. You need to be alert for dark patches indicating
high levels of internal dampness in order to avoid unexpected friction
that can literally send you head-over-heels in a sudden forward pitch.
Skis stopping, body moving... is not ideal. Be cautious with speed in
explorations until you can identify patterns or localized glitches.

We’ll just have to wait and see what the actual experience is.

Very Important Notes For Tomorrow...

Temps. Dropping From +11 C to -4 C.

It’s The “Laws Of Physics”.

want to research days/weeks/months to visit, you can sample what
they look like historically, month by month, year by year.

When reviewing dates from any of the past, numbered, archived pages,
you can use the "Previous Topic" or "Next Topic" buttons, located
screen far right, in upper date/message bar to scroll through sequential
dates, or use your browsers "back" button to stay on the selected index

There are approximately 6, 25 day Index pages per season.

( If you "Bookmark" the link above, it will always take you to the
First index page with the latest posts. That gives you an immediate,
current to 25 day past, review scroll of Winter Alpine Conditions by
consecutive date.)
