Anyone who was able to get onto Versant Sud/South Side Trail # 18, McCulloch, yesterday,
was rewarded with one of the very best spring descents possible as a result of the previous
4 days of immaculate maintenance for Race Course use this trail had been reserved for.

One of the most important things in what you see below is the curl of spring snow
being shred off the outside ski. That continuous flow of displaced warm spring
snow was a near perfect offset to gravity that facilitated phenomenal edge engagement
turn after turn, after turn, the whole way down.

This is the epitome of easy Expert spring skiing and we expect it to be exactly the same today.

There are a surprising number of Beginners and Intermediates out and
we want to focus specifically on their needs in this environment because
having a positive experience with the sport as you are in the early stages
of skills development and confidence building is critical to your inclination
to enthusiastically keep at it.

In that case, Versant Sud/South Side Trail #’s 4/6, Nansen Haut/Upper and Bas/Lower,
are 2 of your very best friends in the entire known Ski World.

Learning advancement when there is a bit of extra effort required in
the soft surfaces is still easy from a technical standpoint because there
is far less likelihood of “Run-Away” scenarios if you are working on
those basic stopping, directional and speed control skills. As an
added plus, its warm out, so you don't need take warm-up breaks
and staying out for extended practice sessions really helps get those
key physical moves established.

When you have a single descent line that runs 6 Kilometres, a few laps
on such predictable smoothness can do wonders for skills building.

Weather Notes:

Wow... another “twist” in the story of the 14 day long range
weather models. The very dry trend predicted throughout the
period right up to April 18 Official Closing Day, has completely
flipped over in the middle days to now show both a considerable
elevation in 24 hour temp cycles as well as major precipitation
events.

Therefore, it is entirely appropriate to say the extent of coverage
and available trail selection is quite likely going to be a function of...

“Weather Permitting"

because...

“Weather Permitting” is a phrase that is completely applicable to every
remaining dimension of Ski Season over Eastern North America for April 2021.

“Mother Nature Limited Time Offer”...

Attention Expo Fans...

The main Expo pitch(shown above) still has select descent lines of adequate
depth, however the physically limiting factor is becoming the access at the
top(shown below). At some stage it may be still possible to ski the pitch,
but you may have to hike across to the crest to get to it. At that point it
could become a Ski Patrol safety issue, so if you want to get some final
mogul blasting in for this season, do it now. Expo is shown as a “Progressive”
opening this morning and we think that may be for the overnight refroze waiting
to get to soft.

In our observations we would have to say one of the best combinations
of remaining natural snow reserves with an established base of so-far very
durable coverage and quality is the Versant Nord/North Side Lowell
Thomas Sector.

You can actually see there is still snow in the trail-side bush here.

Below: Lowell Thomas Trail-Side Proof Of Natural Snow Reserve.
Adjacent to the Lowell Thomas Sector of the Tremblant trail network.
This is one of the few remaining zones of significant natural snowpack
and that is a very good sign for the indication of lower thermal stress
typical of this sector in late season.

The bush debris you see above is an entire seasons worth of natural shed
from trees that ends up visible as the the snow melts away and it gets left
on the receding surface. Out on the trails it gets ground up into tiny fragments,
but it is all clean and soft and does not affect skis or board in any way. If you
note the green markings on the ski poles relative to their length you can see
there is still a significant reserve depth in this sector.

Conditions Notes:

In the moment of today, a classic spring temperature profile of morning firmness
generated by an overnight sub-zero C down to -4 C, followed by some direct
solar energy that is going to take temps up to +15 C by Last Run.

Looking at the hourly temp’s, we’d expect the sweet-zone to be between 9:30 A.M.
to 14:00hrs/2:00 P.M.

We consider it to be very fortunate that so-far, the inherent natural speed
in the surfaces has remained relatively fast throughout the recent days.
No doubt, by 15:00hrs/3:00 P.M., the heat-induced softness looses
some glide on lesser pitches, and plateaus take more skating effort to
cross, but it’s just been a matter of moving to trails with a bit more
steepness to use gravity as an offset.

Additional “So-Far” assets have been the relative mogul resistance in
the daily groomed Green/Blue trails that still seem to have a very solid,
well frosted base that amazingly has not yet( up to yesterday anyway), shown
much change in either smoothness or coverage over entire days.

Those are also likely to be “Weather Permitting” characteristics.

The bottom line is that if there is any chance you can make it out,
“For Best Results”... you want to make those attendance efforts ASAP.

:) Bring Back The Memories... Research Future Visits...
If you would like to look up dates you visited Tremblant, or you
want to research days/weeks/months to visit, you can sample what
they look like historically, month by month, year by year.

When reviewing dates from any of the past, numbered, archived pages,
you can use the "Previous Topic" or "Next Topic" buttons, located
screen far right, in upper date/message bar to scroll through sequential
dates, or use your browsers "back" button to stay on the selected index
page for non-sequential date reviews in either forward or reverse order.

There are approximately 6, 25 day Index pages per season.

( If you "Bookmark" the link above, it will always take you to the
First index page with the latest posts. That gives you an immediate,
current to 25 day past, review scroll of Winter Alpine Conditions by
consecutive date.)
