Here Is Your Morning “Bump Report”...

Spring is exactly the time that many dedicated Tremblant “Bump Fans”
look forward to enjoying. The softness of the spring snow is very forgiving
and blasting down a good line is truly thrilling, especially with a little air
between bumps when there’s a good cushion for landings.

While the choices may be limited at this point in an unusually super-heated
spring season there certainly are some big bumps available, even if it does
sometimes take care and effort to get to them over/around some bare spots,
as shown in this Versant Nord/North Expo example below.

Bumps In Another Variety...

A genuine surprise of yesterday that we think has roughly a 98.724% chance of
being exactly the same today, was Sud/South Side Beauvallon Haut/Upper, that was
for Experts, an unexpectedly excellent spring, high-speed, low-level, bump-jump,
every turn in the air, joyful exercise of fast cruising fun. Part of the versatility in this
sector though, was the multi-skill level suitability across the Intermediate/Expert range
because while Experts could literally make every turn in the air over the small, slightly
shallow but widely spaced moguls from the very light traffic, Intermediates would/could
descend at far lower speeds and find more than adequate smoothness and distance
between contours for safe directional and speed control.

It is very important to note 2 things in this case with Beauvallon: 1) there was almost no one
on it, so it was very safe for Expert speed with no other persons in sight and when we
got to the mid-descent pitch, we had to wait for quite a while to have any persons
visible in a picture to add a human scale of reference to this upward facing wide-angle.
2) There is wall-to-wall, and Summit to TGV, fully optimized coverage, even with all
the current heat. It’s nearly amazing to see this vast expanse of white, just about as
wide as an Interstate Highway, and it’s all yours to enjoy, for the most part, all by yourself.

There were definitely more folks on the Nord/North sectors yesterday, and that will
probably be the same for the foreseeable “hot” future, as the sun hits these slopes
at an oblique angle thereby making for far less solar intensity, and often shaded trail
sides there are generally drier and faster.

The very long shadows you can see above/below means the sun’s energy is dispersed
to a far greater degree and the practical side of that is noticeably less surface thaw
generated saturations.

The entire Lowell Thomas Quad serviced array of open terrain was and will
continue to be a locally favoured zone with great speed and relatively
hazard free reliability.

There was a very enthusiastic group of lapper’s doing the Rope Tow/Rigodon
descent path off the Lowell Thomas Quad and an unintentional bonus was/is that
because the Duncan Quad is off-line during the week, the Lowell T Quad is
open til 4:15, so if you parked at the Versant Nord/North Side base, you could
have “Last Run” at this later time.

Weather Notes:

For a wider range of evolving long range weather reference, use the
“Previous Topic” buttons page top/bottom, to scan the recent changes
to the outlook. All we can say on that is if it changed to this, is it possible
it could change back?

Conditions Notes:

1) It is Spring “Technical” Skiing at all Skill Levels, in the sense that
the soft, warm snow that is prone to being “Thick”, requires extra
effort and extra attention to a flexibly responsive adaptation to
variable rates of surface friction. At low Beginner speeds, this may
be less critical, but there will still be some very apparent muscle
and balance demands for everyone.

2) There are variable natural hazards that can change during the course
of the day due to traffic or heat. Do not assume things will be exactly the
same from beginning to end. Use your scanning capability to identify
evolving patterns or zones for caution and safe descent.

3) All specific Trail references in this report are only samples/examples
within an array that includes many, many other similar choices. We think
we are crazy-lucky to have such an extensive array considering the Florida-like
temps and Global Pandemic Covid-19 circumstances that have all generated
a strange/unique challenge for Mountain logistics.

We are most thankfully appreciative to Tremblant Mountain Op’s for delivering
day after day superbly optimized slopes despite the enormous challenges.

:) Bring Back The Memories... Research Future Visits...
If you would like to look up dates you visited Tremblant, or you
want to research days/weeks/months to visit, you can sample what
they look like historically, month by month, year by year.

When reviewing dates from any of the past, numbered, archived pages,
you can use the "Previous Topic" or "Next Topic" buttons, located
screen far right, in upper date/message bar to scroll through sequential
dates, or use your browsers "back" button to stay on the selected index
page for non-sequential date reviews in either forward or reverse order.

There are approximately 6, 25 day Index pages per season.

( If you "Bookmark" the link above, it will always take you to the
First index page with the latest posts. That gives you an immediate,
current to 25 day past, review scroll of Winter Alpine Conditions by
consecutive date.)
