------ Editors Fall 2021 Insert Note To Archive Reviewers: ------------
Tremblant Ski Season 2021/22 is currently scheduled to start on November 25, 2021.
For those interested in monitoring the evolution of the new seasons conditions,
we would like to suggest you “Bookmark” the T360 Forums ( Mountain Ski Conditions
@ http://tinyurl.com/yktelmu ), as just one of the info. sources you include for insight.
If you are looking for historic season openings, please scroll back through
the chronology to any or all November/December dated Opening Days that
are spaced at roughly 6 page intervals, from the page number selection in
the upper right corner of the index page link above, that span each full season.
We have already published a preliminary Winter 2021/22 Weather outlook
in our “Tremblant Geographic” section. ( link: https://tinyurl.com/5kub5h8 )
That article is under development from the end of October to start-up in order
to follow evolving meteorological conditions that will influence the season.
We will also have start-up chronology on snowmaking, access policy for
Covid-19 protocols, as well as any other relevant detail pertaining to initial
winter operational phases.
Hope to see you back here for seasons First Tracks!

content will be expanding as our time permits.)
Everyone Was Having Fun!

But Some People Were Having More Fun!
4.11.21.Nord.North.Rigodon.Groomed.Flat.Fast.Obviously.Fun.f.jpg
As usual, the sunny panoramic Tremblant views are spectacular.
These magnificent vista’s never get old, it’s just one of the most
naturally beautiful places on Earth.
4.11.21.Summit.La.Crete.Views.Over.Beauvallon.Haut.Upper.Alpine.Lac.T.c.jpg
The summary is: This was a “Just In Time” Seasons Closing. While there were numerous descent
fun zones in very useable condition, there were key trail access transit zones/corridors, that in less
than 24 hours, have gone from snow covered, to earth/rock/gravel. From that standpoint, the closing
adjustment to today made by Tremblant Mountain Op's was a perfectly legitimate decision because
Mother Nature is literally erasing the snow by the hour with serious round-the-clock heat, compounded
by wind. This is the essential equivalent of a simultaneous exposure to the snow by a microwave with a
heat gun, both set to “Max". At this rate, it’s going to be Summer by Tuesday night.
As the dust settles, and we get a whole bunch of End-Of-Season logistics wrapped up,
we’ll have time to process more of the closing weekend pic’s at some point in the near
future and we’ll add a “Reply” as page 2 of this post below.
In the mean-time, we recommend that you clean your Skis with a room-temp, mild,
soap/water foamy, lots of suds, mixture to evacuate all the surface debris that may
have worked its way into the bases/bindings. You don’t want to use water that’s too
hot, or scrub too aggressively because it can remove/dissolve the binding lubricants,
but you do want the suds to gently float out all the grit. Rinse gently with clean flowing
water. Blow-dry them with heat off. If possible, after cleaning, wax bases. DO NOT STORE
YOUR SKIS IN THE GARAGE OR BASEMENT WITH THE TAILS RESTING ON CONCRETE OR
ANYWHERE NEAR THE FLOOR... That is a sure-fire way to have rust develop that can get
into the laminations between the base and edges that can be destructive. Store Skis well
above floor level in a place with good, DRY, air circulation.

Just when you thought +22C was going to turn everything into mush...
Tremblant Mountain Op’s Pulls One Last Rabbit Out Of The Hat!
4.10.21.Nord.North.Rigodon.Best.Technical.Open.Slope.Shaved.To.Base.Grooming.Conditions.Observations.jpg
When there’s only a single weekend left in the Official Season,
you can maybe do things you would not usually do otherwise,
and in this case Rigodon got shaved right down to the still solid
frozen base for what immediately became the very best technical
descent on the Open Mountain yesterday. No slush, no moguls,
just hard, fast, high traction action.
Today it is marked for “Race Course” use so we are not sure if/when
it could/will have public access. Typically, Race Course use may only
be a portion of the day, so with any luck we’ll get to use it at some point.
Otherwise, could we see this approach on any other trails today?
Regardless, we will find what we find and be happy to do turns any
way possible when the backdrop looks like this:
4.10.21.Ptit.Bonheur.Spectaular.Beauty.Full.Soft.Spring.Coverage.b.jpg
Above:
It was so hot on Saturday that there was a heat-haze in some of the long views that
generated this surreal looking sky-scape/horizon scene. We think some folks may have
missed noticing it though because unless you actually stopped to look up, while you
were in motion you had your eyes riveted on the surface before you to anticipate
the control inputs necessary to traverse the irregular depths of built up tracking.
None of this tracked surface was particularly difficult as it was all very soft, but regardless
of skill level it just needed total focus while under way in order to prevent imbalance.
Weather Notes:
So far, it’s actually more overcast than the hourly forecast icons might
suggest, but we actually like that better from a clinical standpoint
because it means there is one less, or slightly less, thermal influence.
If the cloudy bits act as umbrella, it could take the wet edge off some
terrain, at least for a while.
The +20C hot weather brings out the “Beach Wear”...
And, as the day progressed, the layers came off as the direct
sun built an intensity that was beyond what the actual numeric
temp values would tell you, so by the end of the day there were
even more rather “Exposed” folks seeking to cool off. If the cloudy
bits go away, you can expect some repeat Beach Wear performances.
4.10.21.Summit.La.Crete.20C.Beach.Temps.View.Beach.Wear.Fashion.c.jpg
Conditions Notes:
We are very hopeful that the circumstances are going to hold over for
the Rigodon example of a shaved trail base at some point for public
access for closing day. The traffic is likely to be light, so the wear factors
are also likely to be light, however when it’s +18C, after a string of
consecutive days of very unseasonably hot days of between +15 to
+20 C, even light traffic can fairly quickly build moguls.
There can be significant natural hazards particularly around trail edges and
to lesser degrees, where snow-bridges have been put in place by harvesting
snow from one place and moving it to rebuild passages. It is inevitable that
with the receding, shallow snow cover, little rocky bits sometimes get exposed
or stirred up and can find their way into the mix, so you need to keep a sharp
eye out for those. There are not many, but to be objective you want to be aware
of these kinds of common spring occurrences and to avoid base damage the
best way to do that is to reduce speed in all these areas.
Warm temperature ski/board wax or coatings will be the single largest
asset for easy speed today, however there is likely to be a very high level
of aerobic energy necessary to navigate through some of the thicker bits
that are inevitable with this sustained heat. Pace yourself, and if you sense
fatigue, take a break. Cumulative muscle stress can generate sudden cramping
or loss of quick reaction/response, so please be careful as the demand for athletic
endurance builds.
Here are the very best possible signs for coverage quality today...
4.10.21.Apres.Ski.Grooming.Operations.Observations.At.6.44.PM.a.jpg
Throughout all the days of this very hot closing days phase of this particular
season, much of the quality of both the square area of coverage and surfaces
are due to the early season snowmaking which is still evident in the trail edge
profile you see in this Nansen Haut/Upper sample below. It is this level
of anticipation for total seasonal needs that we respect in the planning
methodology of Tremblant Mountain Op’s and you will get the benefit of
that right up to the literal last run today.
