T360 Late Eve. Apres Ski Edit, Under Construct At 10:04 P.M.
As of “Last Run”, descending at 3:40 P.M., the Summit
temp had just cracked +1 C, however, up to that moment
all the precipitation on Summit and Nord/North sectors
was snow. It was heavy, thick, wet, construction-grade
snow and up to that point, not even a single speck of rain.
NANSEN (Haut/Upper) OPEN.
Here is a close-up Nansen sample. This is ballistic snowball stuff.
A well hand-packed snowball of this thick, heavy stuff would break
a window if thrown with a good arm.
When groomed into the trail base, it will be a fabulous addition
to the foundational establishment of early season quality.

With snowfall spanning all of open hours, that means that
up to that point, we were right about the higher elevations
being capable of producing snowfall during the bulk of the
precipitation. Up on the trails, not a single drop of rain fell,
all day.
The Summit was snow-cloud foggy all day. The whole top
of the Mountain remained foggy all day.
Despite the thickness, the new opening of Nansen was just
about the smoothest new terrain of the season in terms of all
day durability.

As you can see above, Nansen Haut/Upper, also known as
Nansen “S”, a “Green” Beginner trail, has been opened at full
width. The connectors to the TGV Quad, La Crete on top, and
“Mi Chemin”, on the bottom were also mostly smooth, so as of
today, we have another legitimate Beginner learning path.
Where the snowfall was heaviest and thickest, on the newly
opened Beauchemin Haut/Upper, photography was vitrually
pointless as the camera could not be raised without having
the lens splattered with wet, slushy snow and it eventually
went into default shutdown mode as the control buttons
got soaked.
The few out all day eventually got pretty much soaked too,
but the skiing was actually better in many cases because
the rising temps softened all the previous firm bits.
All things considered, it could have been way, way worse.
If it had been the forecasted rain all day, that would have
been way worse, but it did not.
Wet snow may make skiers wet, but on the ground this stuff is
so thick that when groomed in, it will be close to the density of
a good quality paved road surface, so we think it is an excellent
addition to the seasons initial base strata.
With the return of cold temps tomorrow, things may be
understandably firm/solid. Bring edges. If there is grooming
done after re-froze, there may be good soft top layers, but they
will probably be shallow and therefore sensitive to traffic volume.
As far as we know, Ski-Out to Sud/South, Resort Base is still
in the tomorrow plan. We’ll see if that works out first thing
in the morning.

Weather Notes:
This is where the day’s potential becomes a bit more complex,
however, it is already better than it was just 9 hours ago because
the “Heavy” rain icons that were in the 12:00 Noon block have been
reduced to “Light” rain icons.
What we like to point out whenever this situation occurs is that
“Light” icons frequently mean the precip. may be in bands of
active weather that pass over the region, and may, could possibly,
skirt around the Mountain that can often remain dry throughout.
Obviously that would be a huge benefit, however, sometimes
“Light” means drizzle everywhere, so we’ll just have to wait and see.
If there is a direction we would lean towards in the optional cases,
we also like to point out that both rain and drizzle like to primarily
fall under the cloud, not so much in the cloud. Currently, the Summit
of Tremblant is not only totally in the cloud, but it is snowing at a
good clip.
Of course, if it continues on to be snowfall all day, we’ll take that for
as much as Mother Nature is willing to give.

How Close Is “Close”?
Tremblant just happens to be sitting on a number of
weather “Edges” in this case, so we want to add these
two graphics below for regional perspective. The positive
sides of these potentials support our theories for primarily
snow at Mountain elevations. The low-laying areas may
well get some rainy bits, but our priorities are only for
what we may get over the trail network. The second one
below shows the brief nature of the temp blip as things
are forecast to quickly return Sub-Zero C.

Conditions Notes:
No doubt we’ve been getting in tons of lapping exercise
and effective today, we can now do that with added terrain
variety, and the promise of steady expansion from this point
forward.
Reliable sources say that tomorrow may be the day for the
ultimate utility of Sud/South Bas/Lower Ski-Out to the Resort
Base, however it is not out of the realm of possibility, nor would
it surprise us, that could occur on an “A.S.A.P.” basis.

Generally for today:
If the attendance numbers remain consistent, but the open
terrain doubles, the immediate benefit is the reduced traffic
stress per-unit of square surface area, so we fully expect
the great freshly groomed morning conditions to extend
further into the day, and quite possibly, remain all day.
There may actually be a reduction in traffic because rainy
forecast icons freak out some recreational skiers who will
simply choose to come out on another day, so this could
truly be a “Fly Under The Radar” day of expanded terrain
excellence with newly falling snow that gets enjoyed by
those of us who are not put off, or know better about the
fine performance that should be there today, regardless
of weather.
If we are right about the snowfall being the primary source
of precipitation today, big, big, big bonus for all here.
We’ll get back to you at Apres Ski on that one...
