Very Cool Ski Conditions!!!

...in more ways than one.

Another Reason For Very Cool Ski Conditions...

Lets have a little annual perspective/comparison
between now and a year ago today.

December 23, 2020:

81 Cm’s of natural snowfall with 43 open trails.

December 23, 2021

152 Cm’s of natural snowfall with 52 open trails.

Statistically, we’re off to a really great beginning
to this winter, and no matter what weather follows,
this initial foundation makes anything else that
happens easier to either cope with, or build on.

Weather Notes:

This should pretty much take care of any lingering doubts
about “Winter” with everything in todays weather data graphic,
especially today.

“Squeaky” cold snow is going to have extraordinary performance,
but... absolute focused attention to garment closures and lots of
layers will be required to retain warmth.

At least the wind values are relatively light, however you’ll
make up for that with descent velocity, so windchill will still
be a significant factor when moving.

Conditions Notes:

Today is the day when the Groomed array really begins to show
higher and more universal degrees of compacted consistency.

This snow makes very poor snowballs because it is too light and
dry. It does not want to hand pack very well, and if you do manage
to make a snowball out of it, chances are it would disintegrate in
flight. With no internal humidity, there is no adhesive bond with
the pressures that can be made with the human hand, however...

Packed and groomed with a 12,000 Lbs. machine... what you end
up with is a mechanical bond where weight alone can force the
engagement between small snow crystals that get you todays
increased density due to the incremental reduction in loft after
multiple overnight grooming cycles.

We think it gunna be really freakin’ fast.

The big, big bonus is that we also think it’s going to be very
forgiving. There is very little in the way of icy, and more than
enough softness to allow for adjustments on the fly without
any harshness in surface feedback or edge-set.

For Beginners and Intermediates, ease of edging, turning
and speed control should be the basis for a fantastic day
of learning. For Experts, ease of speed and control over
steeper, but primarily soft surfaces should elevate the
fun and performance capabilities up towards the peak of
what’s been available so-far this season, but there may
still be quickly developing moguls depending on traffic
volume.

In the Sous Bois, Hors Piste and Un-Groomed categories,
the story will probably be a bit more a la carte, as it has
been a couple of days since the bulk of the new snow fell
so there will be patterns of traffic wear, and, it is still only
December 23, not January 23, so the depths of bush
snowpack are not at seasonal maturity levels and hazards
can be exposed within some of the more popular zones.
Bottom line in the Sous Bois is that explorations need to
be undertaken with care and respect for evolving patterns of
use and caution with speed in order to facilitate instantaneous
line-of-sight navigational changes.

Big, Big Mountain Access Utility Notice:

Applicable to:

Versant Sud/South Side - Versant Soleil

Porte du Soleil Lift( @ Versant Sud/South Side P-2) and Trail # 49, La Carriole OPEN.

The Porte du Soleil is an under-utilized access to total Mountain vertical
by either skiing from its peak above the Le Plateau Resort Village Sector
to Versant Sud/South Side Gondola, or, to the base of the Soleil Sector Quad.

Using the P-2 Sud/South base level parking and the Porte du Soleil is a very
useful option, particularly when the main Sud/South and Nord/North zones
can be busy. Basically, you can sneak up to the Summit on the Soleil Quad
that typically has relatively short lines.

Here is a file shot from our archives with the Porte du Soleil rising
POV over the Sud/South Resort Village, extending over Lac Tremblant.

:) Bring Back The Memories... Research Future Visits...
If you would like to look up dates you visited Tremblant, or you
want to research days/weeks/months to visit, you can sample what
they look like historically, month by month, year by year.

When reviewing dates from any of the past, numbered, archived pages,
you can use the "Previous Topic" or "Next Topic" buttons, located
screen far right, in upper date/message bar to scroll through sequential
dates, or use your browsers "back" button to stay on the selected index
page for non-sequential date reviews in either forward or reverse order.

There are approximately 6, 25 day Index pages per season.

( If you "Bookmark" the link above, it will always take you to the
First index page with the latest posts. That gives you an immediate,
current to 25 day past, review scroll of Winter Alpine Conditions by
consecutive date.)
