If a picture is worth a thousand words, then this one above
pretty much tells you all you need to know about the advantage,
the privilege, the beauty, and the easy fun we think you’ll have today.

This is why you choose Tremblant.

Glorious, Authentic, Genuine Winter.

The Real Deal.

At the indicated initial temp’s, you’ll need to be
ready for it, but the big bonus is going to be the
all day superb performance that comes from
the residual chill in the hill that gets you speed,
control, and forgiveness, all at once, and right
through to last run.

Weather Notes:

Cool to begin with, for sure, but quickly building solar
energy and rising air temps should warm things up at
just about the same time your muscles are warming up too.

The other big mechanical advantage for today is very low
wind speed. Of all winter forecast components, this is
perhaps the most user-friendly. For example... As
photographers who need to remove gloves to operate
camera controls, we can have a hand out for almost
5 minutes at -20 C, with no wind. With a strong wind,
that hand out of glove time will be reduced to 45 seconds.

Ending up at -6C with sun and almost no wind is very
close to a perfect winter day profile.

Conditions Notes:

Today we are going to attempt to explain an element
of advantage with real Cryogenic Snow, which we call
the “Shear Properties”. Super-chilled very dry natural
snow has unique characteristics of technical excellence
and below is an illustration of how one major component
of that looks on the groomed trail surfaces.

In this case above, the left ski tip has been laterally skidded towards
screen left, with a slight arch using the tail of the ski as the centre
of that arch, so the tip has moved outwardly in a single sweeping fan
motion, with only a very slight edge inclination. What you see is the
frictional result on the surface layers of snow between the firm
base and the passing edge of the ski. These are very thin layers
of fractured snow that shear off in wafer-like shapes where each
of these dimensionally small groups of super-cool snow crystals
has acted as a momentary weight bearing surface as the ski passes
over.

The secret to understanding the advantage to ease of execution
of skiing control/learning movements here is just how low friction
it is, because each one of those wafer-like shapes contains what
are effectively about a million tiny, tiny, roller bearings that have
almost no resistance between themselves, the base, or the ski.
Additionally, this is equal insight into why descent glide is also
so easy and super low friction in this snow. In the absence of any
even light shear resistance, there is almost no linear friction in a
straight forward line of movement, because now all the billions
of tiny roller bearings are the equivalent of perfectly aligned for
the path of advance.

This is why these conditions are so easy for everyone. Beginners
and Experts alike should find “Easy” within their all their respective
groomed trail challenge levels. These are groomed conditions
that make you look good. If you are coming from a warm place
for a first winter experience, these are conditions you want for
the some of the quickest, easiest, most efficient snow sports
learning possible.

We’re Not Making This Up...

It should be noted that Shear characteristics in snow are
evident at other temperature ranges as well, however not
with the same low coefficient of resistance as at these
particular lower ranges of temp’s. It’s the dryness at
super-chilled temps that makes the difference, once you
introduce moisture in the form of internal humidity in the
snow from rising or warmer temp’s, the equation begins
to change.

Otherwise...

Early season excellence that is totally appropriate as a Christmas Gift.

:) Bring Back The Memories... Research Future Visits...
If you would like to look up dates you visited Tremblant, or you
want to research days/weeks/months to visit, you can sample what
they look like historically, month by month, year by year.

When reviewing dates from any of the past, numbered, archived pages,
you can use the "Previous Topic" or "Next Topic" buttons, located
screen far right, in upper date/message bar to scroll through sequential
dates, or use your browsers "back" button to stay on the selected index
page for non-sequential date reviews in either forward or reverse order.

There are approximately 6, 25 day Index pages per season.

( If you "Bookmark" the link above, it will always take you to the
First index page with the latest posts. That gives you an immediate,
current to 25 day past, review scroll of Winter Alpine Conditions by
consecutive date.)
