Toboggan is one of the signature trails at Tremblant because
in many ways, it typifies the entire Mountain in a single trail.

What makes Toboggan so special though, is that in many ways
that typical character of Tremblant is present in steroids, i.e.
magnified to an extreme. In this case extremely FUN!

If you consider the rolling topography of Tremblant, then
Toboggan has “Rolling” to such a degree that we call it
“Mother Natures Roller Coaster”, for a very good reason.

Toboggan literally has the the banked slopes and negative
gravity pitch changes over crests that mimic the effect of
a genuine Roller Coaster ride at any Amusement Park you
could think of, only better, because you’re in control, and
you choose the line.

If Toboggan was a river, it would technically, and correctly
be identified as a “Meandering Stream”, a very appropriate
characterization of its course from the standpoint of
purely the back-and-forth directional weaving it takes.

The “Roller Coaster” bit though, is where both the descending
elevations and contour banking generate outstanding potential
for G-loading turning force in the banking, and negative G-loading
i.e. Zero Gravity force over the descending crests. This experience
can be had more often, and to a greater degree(arguably), for these
two forces combined, than on any other single trail at Tremblant.

If you scroll back up to the pic. above, you can see some of these
contours and the natural banking effect. All you need to do is
imagine that for a total descent length of about 3.5 Kilometres.
If you are a well conditioned Expert with good quad muscle
strength and endurance, plus a well tuned pair of SL/Slalom style
skis, you can routinely exceed 1-G of lateral turning force, and
probably get Zero Gravity off the lips and crests about 20 times
on the way down. If you’re a confident Intermediate, experimenting
with the laws of physics is fun and rewarding in the process of
building skills.

But Wait... There’s More !!!

The grooming refinement that is usual in the Toboggan
surfaces offers enjoyment for multi-skill levels and
multi-technique styles for both Ski and Board fans
who appreciate wall-to-wall versatility in choosing
descent lines. Basically, if you go side-to-side, you
get all the topographical diversity, if you stick to the
middle, you can ride out a more even line with less
banking. This makes Toboggan a something for
everyone trail for Intermediates and up skill levels.

Bottom line on Toboggan...

This trail is one of the single most fun runs
anywhere in Eastern North America.

Weather Notes:

Boy, Oh Boy...

Tremblant lucked out on this one...

A huge regional rain and freezing rain system is
just off to the west. Tremblant is going to miss
roughly 94.278%. There may be a bit of freezing
drizzle at around 5:00 P.M., but the really big
soaking that’s happening about 70 Kilometres
to the west, just does not look like it will get
anywhere close.

Conditions Notes:

The Very Best Gifts You Can Give To Family And Friends...

The White Christmas Ski Conditions You’ve Always Wanted!

Generally speaking, there should be a very high degree
of refinement within the entire array of Groomed trails.

It’s been several days of consistently round-the-clock
sub-zero C temp’s, so Mountain Crews have been able
to totally focus on new snowfall integration and increased
scope of compaction that incrementally consolidates the
groomed base, everywhere.

In the Sous Bois, Hors Piste, and Un-Groomed categories,
with 152 cm’s in the base and more snow on the way,
conditions are very good to begin with for this date,
and there is every good chance for bigger and better
starting right now.

:) Bring Back The Memories... Research Future Visits...
If you would like to look up dates you visited Tremblant, or you
want to research days/weeks/months to visit, you can sample what
they look like historically, month by month, year by year.

When reviewing dates from any of the past, numbered, archived pages,
you can use the "Previous Topic" or "Next Topic" buttons, located
screen far right, in upper date/message bar to scroll through sequential
dates, or use your browsers "back" button to stay on the selected index
page for non-sequential date reviews in either forward or reverse order.

There are approximately 6, 25 day Index pages per season.

( If you "Bookmark" the link above, it will always take you to the
First index page with the latest posts. That gives you an immediate,
current to 25 day past, review scroll of Winter Alpine Conditions by
consecutive date.)
