70(*) Open Trails On Sud/South, Nord/North, Soleil And Edge Sectors At #Tremblant .

Yesterday: An Excellent “Best Of Season So-Far” Start To The New Year!

Today May Be A Bit Different...

The ability to lean sideways on totally reliable edge-sets as
demonstrated above, was wall-to-wall, and Summit-to-Base
within virtually the entire groomed trail network. A One-Day,
Mother Nature sale on “Wow”.

Today: It’s gone from +1C, down to -10C.

The Laws Of Physics Apply.

We expected to find excellence yesterday, what was not so
much expected was how much there was. The universal scope
of it seemed to encompass the whole Mountain footprint and it
was impressive. It was noticeable enough that it was the topic
of chairlift conversation on more than one occasion so it was
evidently high in the consciousness, and legitimately recognized
as unique, in the minds of all those in attendance.

“All those in attendance” was not many. We expected a large
New Years Holiday crowd, but it never happened, so that was
also a contributing factor to the all-day mogul-free surface
quality. With light use, comes light wear, and we estimate
last run was somewhere in the neighbourhood of 94.726%
of first tracks uniform smoothness. As a starting off point
for the overnight grooming, that’s also a huge advantage
today may have.

If that attendance trend continues for today, there could
be a similar all-day benefit in the consistent durability
within the groomed open trail array. The difference in the
mechanical consequence of traffic today is that where
yesterday it would have made moguls, today it will likely
remain totally smooth, but it could make icy bits.

A Two Pic. Mini Descent Line Review:

Please Note: The top pic. is yesterday, this below is
about 38 hours old now and there's less snow in the
trees, but the surfaces have been absolutely superb
in this zone. We hope that’s a repeat today.

One of our all-time favourite descent paths is
the Sissy Schuss to Fuddle-Duddle Bas/Lower
circuit utilizing the Expo Quad for laps.

For aerobic exercise and endurance training,
doing several sequential precision carving rep’s
off the Expo Quad on this line makes any piece
of indoor Gym equipment look pathetic.

The recent seasons have seen a “Family Fun Terrain
Park” in the top of Sissy Schuss that has been an
unexpected level of fun due to the user friendly size
and shapes of the contours groomed into the large
foundational snowmaking bumps. This season, those
bumps were placed in an alternating left/right descent
sequence so it is possible to get a series of zero gravity
carved turns with air under skis over the crest of
each bump. Great practice for speed controlled
lift-off’s, great fun for roller-coaster like sensations
of compression and extension. Excellent thrills for
Kidz of all ages!!!

Weather Notes:

It’s January! Mother Nature is going to vaccine the
Mountain with a few shots of “Winter” !!! Get ready
for it if you’re planning a visit within the next 6 to 8
weeks. Each and every shot of cold injects stability
into the base, so not only do we look forward to
genuine, authentic “Winter” snow quality and
performance, it’s essential for the ongoing building
of seasonal maturity.

Conditions Notes:

There’s a big difference between softening and thaw.
Yesterdays +1C at the Summit did not really generate
any thaw, due to the complete lack of wind, and the
shade of heavy overcast, so the softness that occurred
was spectacular for a one-day, fantastic, groomed to
close to perfection, super high performance day.

The question for today is, will the firmness caused by
the rapid drop in temps form a solid mantle, or will
grooming have integrated those soft warm top layers
into new cool soft top layers.

The reason we think grooming will have generated
new cool soft top layers is the Sous Bois.

If there was a really solid mantle caused by the temp.
drop, we think you’d see a reduction in Open Sous Bois,
Hors Piste due to safety issues with that transition,
however, at least so-far today, the major Sous Bois
bush zones continue to be open.

Regardless of those nuances, at least in the groomed,
them sharp, fresh edges is gunna be really important
for the mechanical efficiency of the sport today.
On a day like today, tuned gear can make a critical
difference in both enjoyment and safety.

Beginners and Intermediates will want to default to
lower pitch angle challenges until safe passage can
be verified. Friends bringing Beginner and Intermediate
friends, will want to take responsibility for making
sure those with limited skills are oriented on very safe
slopes before taking them to challenge.

The odd’s are very much in favour of the Green Zones being
best optimized for Beginners and Intermediates to start with
today. Make sure you’re good here, before you go off to the
four corners of challenge!

The reasons for such light attendance on the New Years Holiday
weekend is not fully understood by us, however Covid-19 Pandemic
restrictions and public curfew hours are likely contributing factors.

:) Bring Back The Memories... Research Future Visits...
If you would like to look up dates you visited Tremblant, or you
want to research days/weeks/months to visit, you can sample what
they look like historically, month by month, year by year.

When reviewing dates from any of the past, numbered, archived pages,
you can use the "Previous Topic" or "Next Topic" buttons, located
screen far right, in upper date/message bar to scroll through sequential
dates, or use your browsers "back" button to stay on the selected index
page for non-sequential date reviews in either forward or reverse order.

There are approximately 6, 25 day Index pages per season.

( If you "Bookmark" the link above, it will always take you to the
First index page with the latest posts. That gives you an immediate,
current to 25 day past, review scroll of Winter Alpine Conditions by
consecutive date.)
