1/3/22 #Tremblant Conditions

T360 Apres Ski Edit, Quick Mid-To-Late Eve. Summary, Under Construct @ 10:08 P.M.

It was very cool, some would just say cold,
(but we’re trying to be positive about chilly),
so we took our own advice and went to
Algonquin to get some sun, Presto... it worked...

Standing quietly on mid-Algonquin waiting for
a good action shot, we got warm in about 2 minutes.
We got this shot at 2min, 45sec’s:

Much of the whole Mountain was like this...

The day certainly met our expectations for speed and
grip as you can see above. There were some wee icy
bits, but in relation to the total open square area, very
small indeed, and that was additionally facilitated to a
positive degree by quite low traffic volume.

Once again a quiet day within the last week of the
traditional Xmas/NY Holiday period. Maybe the cold
forecast had something to do with it, maybe Covid,
whatever the case may be, the net result was very little
wear, and all day carving performance, all day easy
learning performance.

What Did We Learn In Class Today?

There can be many appropriate interpretations of “Cool” at Tremblant!

Tomorrow: Snowing and cool, clearing with sun
and temp’s rising to about -5C, then clouding
over by mid-to-late afternoon. Moderate Southerly
breezes so adaptive layers with vents will be best
suited to almost 10C warming trend over first tracks.

Hello “Winter” !!!

It Gunna Be A “Cool” One...

Weather Notes:

Please Note: There is an apparent temperature inversion
from -24 C at the Sud/South Resort Base level, up to the
Summit, currently indicated at -20C. A slight advantage
for elevations at First Tracks, however we would expect
that to flip around sometime before noon.

The most fortunate mechanical advantage this morning is
low wind speed. In the absence of big wind, is the absence
of wind-chill, so you could actually compare todays feeling
of “cool” to a day where the temp was only -5C, but there
was a 15 KMPH base wind speed. This theoretical concept
only applies to standing still though, because as soon as
you are moving, your velocity through still air becomes
the equivalent wind speed. That is why we specifically refer
to safe, sunny, trail-side rest stops and specific lift rides in
the conditions notes below, because those stops/rides can
be a primary source of supplemental warmth today.

Due to the basic N/W orientation of the light breezes,
riding up the Sud/South Side TGV Quad, or the Soleil
Quad, should actually warm you up as you should be
ascending at a similar speeds, thereby putting you in
a calm tail-wind bubble for both of those rides.

There may be moments in the Gondola where you begin
to feel hot, so if the lines are tolerably short, this could
be a good option for being able to stay outside all day or
for quickly reducing any deep chills you may be feeling.

As far as the long range forecast is concerned,
for a Ski Resort, it’s excellent!

Conditions Notes:

Legitimate, Genuine, Authentic, Cryogenic, “Squeaky” Cool Snow.

The Very Finest Possible For Easy Performance
Across All Skill Levels, Because...

What makes it great for Experts, also makes it great
for Beginners(#) and Intermediates, i.e., low friction, high grip.
The net effect is what we refer to as “Forgiving”, in the
sense that small errors will be readily absorbed by the
surfaces without tripping you up, yet control moves can
be confidently/assertively(#) implemented with very little
resistance, and there is good inherent speed.

(#) “Confident”/“Assertive” refer to the attitude Beginners
need to have in order to execute physical movements
in a sport that requires applied muscle force. If you
are a naturally timid person, you need to turn on your
internal Tiger. Learning Skiing becomes a lot easier if
you can channel confidence and assertiveness into
quick, smooth muscle command. We intentionally say
“smooth” as you don’t want to jerk any motions, jerking
motions will get you loss of traction, just think of “fluid”
and “firm”.

Generally speaking, the primary benefit within the
groomed trail array this morning should be refinement.
It is day-2, of the post warmth we had the day before
yesterday, so the groomed trails have had a second
pass that typically renders out a finer, deeper, more
consistent, top layer of loose, skiable snow that has
a more silky feel underfoot.

Of course... you’ll need to be adequately dressed for it,
but once the sun comes out, there will actually be solar
warmth to be felt, and more quickly than you might think,
if you can find a safe, wind sheltered sunny spot to stop
and absorb a bit of heat.

Traffic-wise, the Official Holidays are now in the past, so
it is Monday of a work-week, but school is out so there
may be a fair number of local/regional folks, but a lot
of the destination travellers have gone back to “Theirville”,
so we think that, combined with the coolness, and the
Covid-19 pandemic factors, may keep the crowds low again.
