1/6/22 #Tremblant Conditions

T360 Late Night Apres Ski Edit Under Progressive Assembly @ 11:21 P.M.

Foggy and fun, but due to a lot of new snow, not
quite as easy as we originally thought it might be.

There was too much new snow to achieve grooming integration
in one overnight pass, so we were wrong about “Best Of”
conditions for today because the "loft in the soft" was not fully
compressed by grooming and there were moguls almost everywhere,
with even a moderate pitch. Provided the machine and labour hours
are available(#), all it needs is another night-shift of grooming to
bring compaction a lot closer to ideal. If the grooming resources
are not available tonight, it could be a couple of days off.

So we don’t think we’re wrong about the ultimate potential
for "Best Of’s” conditions, but we are wrong on the timing
by at least a day.

Regardless, the new snow is a fantastic addition to all
areas of the Mountain, so if we need to be patient for
a little while, that is a very small delay for the ultimate
improvement to the base that it will definitely make.

(#) We think there may be an undetermined possibility(?),
that some Mountain Crew labour hours may be diverted
to the F.I.S. World Cup Freestyle Mogul competition course,
and/or the support terrain for that event within the Versant
Sud/South Side Flying Mile Sector?

On the flip-side, the Sous Bois/Hors Piste/Un-Groomed
certainly got a major boost.

The attendance was light today, so very easy lapping anywhere
on the Mountain. Will that be the same tomorrow? The co-factors
say no, a World Cup Freestyle Event, first day of a skiers 3 day
weekend, and easy winter weather, are all good reasons to expect
an enthusiastic turnout?

More detail on all in the morning.

Absolutely Fantastic New Snowfall!!!

The entire Duncan Haut/Upper, Bas/Lower, was only one
example of what could be argued as “Best Of, So-Far”
Groomed Alpine Snow Sports Trails for this season.

For over 2 hours, and still going strong at Last Run,
there was heavily falling, beautifully fast and dry,
wonderful white winter powder snow, everywhere.

The Official recording is at 13cm’s, so that is just above
the 10cm’s mark that we identify as ideal for grooming
integration in one pass. Therefore, due to wind shaping
that naturally occurs over and around the Mountains
topographical shapes and contours, there may be areas
of thicker softness where traffic generates moguls, and
there may be the odd wind-blown bare spot, but the
vast majority of the groomed array should show the
excellence that we had the preview privilege you see above.

The joy of finding entire descent lines the length of
this Duncan sample in immaculate, top-to-bottom,
wall-to-wall freshly powdered shape, can not be overstated.

Completely reliable, mega-carve, lay ‘em over sideways
and put 100% weight on edges, for turn after turn after
turn until your quad muscles are crying out for mercy,
is simply the epitome of the joy of skiing for Front-Side
high performance carvers. It’s like driving a Ferrari at
the race track. A joyful delight you have to pinch yourself
for in order to realize it’s not a dream, this is real.

Obviously, it was a great challenge for photography, but
we call that a “Happy Problem” for reporting at a Ski Resort,
so we’re overjoyed to have real difficulty in getting useable
images in the typical sense. In terms of conveying “Snowy”,
no doubts at all about that!

Weather Notes:

A very similar functional profile to yesterday,
clear in the morning, snowing in the afternoon.

What we’d like to point out is that this is a classic
reference to the dozens of times over the years
we’ve written about “Mother Nature’s Own Best
Snowmaking Temperatures At Between -4C to -7C."

Conditions Notes:

Widespread excellence across the entire array of
the groomed trail network for all skill level rated
terrain.

By “Last Run”, yesterday, there were large portions
of the groomed trail selection that were close to
flawless.

Super-smooth, thickly falling snow of dimensionally
mixed-sized powder snow, but we would say the
predominant crystal size range was on the fine, smaller
size. Skiing through, it had a very silky feel underfoot
and with such a rapid fill rate, it was literally getting
better with every run, so that could only lead us to
conclude this mornings offerings should be spectacular.

Looking at the hourly forecast progression above, it
seems as though today could be a functional copy
of yesterday, the difference being the huge advantage
of the very much snowier starting point we have this
morning.

For that single reason, we believe there is substantial
potential for today to be another escalating standard
of “Best Of, So-Far” overall groomed conditions for
this season.

This is not a day where you will want to come out
early and go home early, today is exactly the kind of
day you want to be here for every moment possible.
You absolutely want to be the last person they let up
at 3:30, because todays last runs could be some of the
very sweetest descents you’ll have for the season.

In the Sous Bois/Hors Piste, and Un-Groomed group,
this will be a great refresher, however caution is still
required for two reasons. The first is that we are still
not at full season, totally open, mature snowpack depths.
The second reason is that wind shaping may generate
both thin and thick coverage. Great news for the thicker
bits, but the thinner bits may have “Snow Camo” i.e.,
a thin layer of snow camouflage covering some potential
hazards. Go slow on all initial explorations, not only to be
safely careful, but to take time to admire the breathtaking
beauty of the natural surroundings you find yourself in.

We have no idea what the public attendance and traffic
use factors will be today. The genuine Expert enthusiasts
will all make their best efforts to be here, but this traditional
Holiday period, ending this weekend, has seen both near full
and near empty slopes, on a seemingly random basis, so anything
may be possible. Yesterday was a light traffic day, and conditions
benefitted from that as well as all the new snow. Will today be the
same? You’ll need to either go yourself, or tune in later at Apres Ski
to find how that works out.

they look like historically, month by month, year by year.

When reviewing dates from any of the past, numbered, archived pages,
you can use the "Previous Topic" or "Next Topic" buttons, located
screen far right, in upper date/message bar to scroll through sequential
dates, or use your browsers "back" button to stay on the selected index
page for non-sequential date reviews in either forward or reverse order.

There are approximately 6, 25 day Index pages per season.

( If you "Bookmark" the link above, it will always take you to the
First index page with the latest posts. That gives you an immediate,
current to 25 day past, review scroll of Winter Alpine Conditions by
