T360 Middle Of The Night Shift Apres Ski Edit @ 2:09 A.M.

Sorry for delay, technical glitches...

Anyway, a cool day, occasionally really cool
because of a somewhat gusty wind, but sunny
and fabulous skiing!

More in the morning, but pay very close attention
to the weather notes posted below for tomorrow.
Extra attention in layers and overlap fastening will
be particularly necessary for effective warmth.

After the mish-mosh of yesterday where we were wrong on
so many forecast accounts(even though some of them like
the power failure lift closures were random/accidental),
we’re still going to say we were not wrong on the potential,
just wrong on the timing. So, we think today, albeit a lot
cooler, will be the superb conditions we’d hoped for yesterday?

Due to the loss of the Duncan and Soleil Quads with the Hydro Quebec
power failure, lift times instantly got way longer on the remaining
open quads like the Expo and Lowell Thomas. We park on Versant Nord,
the North Side, so the Expo quad became the centre for us and many
others and it turned out that even though it was still very foggy, it was
noticeably less dense than other zones, so we cycled a few times through
the Sissy Schuss family fun contour park which was actually very interesting
and a lot of fun.

When Life Hands You Lemons,
It’s An Opportunity To Make Lemonade...

A Short, Foggy Fun Trail Review Of
# 79, Sissy Schuss Haut/Upper,
A Tremblant Classic Since 1948.

Mountain Crews have created an alternating right-left-right-left descending
series of contour bumps just below the entry fence you can see here that are
quite symmetrical and form a sort-of staircase progression that can be skied
either over, or around the small crests for the sheer fun of a very near
roller-coaster experience. The closeness and speed with which you apex the
crests determines the degree of weightlessness you feel going over each one.

By simply making your turns through them below the crests with larger diameters,
you can self-regulate the lift-off for safe, continuous ground contact if you’re
not comfortable with air under skis or board. This was the most outright
fun we had all day and what we ended up doing were a few laps of
apexing a carved arch just below the top of each bump for a clear air-turn
on the downside, and a hard carved opposite turn through the valley
to the next one, but the point is that by mixing up your lines threading
either through, or over the bumps, you can have loads of fun exploring
the Laws Of Gravity at your own comfort level.

After the contour bumps, there are a series of installed park features
that are designed for entry level skills as a safe introduction to park
activity. All this comes to an end at the Sissy Schuss Haut/Bas,
Upper/Lower junction. From there, Sissy Bas/Lower has more park
modules of higher challenge and Fuddle-Duddle Bas/Lower is
immaculately groomed smooth all the way to the runout adjacent to
the Expo Quad base.

As almost everything was either thick foggy or really thick foggy,
photography was not practical, however we got this one
above in only a thick foggy gap, so it’s just about the only
descriptive image we have for surfaces. If we were right about
any of the potential for excellence in the surfaces yesterday,
that could be seen and felt in this zone because Sissy Schuss
had 100% reliable, grippy smoothness, and Fuddle-Duddle
Bas/Lower was very close to immaculate, even if there was
a bit of friction in the damp new snowfall.

We hope to see a clearer picture today...

Weather Notes:

It’s cool to begin with, but evidently, it gunna' get cooler yet.

Discretionary visit planners may want to consider options...

As an advance notice see the attached Environment Canada
Cold Weather Warning for tomorrow, below. Please also note
second below, Regional/Continental weather factors for
indicated time spans.

Conditions Notes:

Even though we’re back into the cool zone, at least the
conditions we have to deal with do not include a plastering
wet snow pellet like yesterday.

While the airborne pellets made vision a safety issue, from
a clinical point they are a welcome addition to the base as
just another form of snowfall, so the integrated groomed
results this morning should be very good. There was some
wind shaped drifting that generated deeper accumulations
so there may be lingering softness in some areas, but with
such an extensive groomed list below, we think the overall
trail surface quality should be quite fine within respective
skill level ratings.

It should be noted that wind shaping also carries the potential
for trail-base exposures where it may have carried snow off into
the surrounding bush, mostly on or around facing topographical
crests, or on steeper wind facing pitches, so we think it’s
appropriate to recommend reduced speed explorations this
morning to confirm matched skills to actual challenge.
Typically, these wind exposed areas form similar patterns
within the affected sectors, so keep an eye out for conditions
you can anticipate in order to slow down in advance to keep
speed and directional control before you encounter them.

Due to the fact that it is a post-Holiday, work-week day, the
probability is the traffic will be very light, so that should be
an asset for all-day durability.

Proactive Snowmaking Work.

We are happy to see what we consider to be proactive
snowmaking work going on. We think the best example
may be Nansen Bas/Lower. As last season drew to a close
Nansen Bas/Lower actually had some of the finest conditions
on the Mountain, but they were not accessible because of
the thermal loss of the final runout above the Fairmont Hotel
which was literally “A Bridge Too Far” in terms of being able
to use groomers to shift locally banked snow resources to
keep it open. We are not exactly sure if that is the actual
purpose of this specific operation, however it seems apparent
to us that any increase in the foundation of the base here
will be an absolute benefit to utility/durability in the spring.
Nansen Bas/Lower is a critical, very important Sud/South
access point for both total traffic volume capacity as well
as the only complete “Green” to Sud/South Resort base for
Beginners, so this slight inconvenience now may pay huge
dividends later on.

In the Sous Bois/Hors Piste/Un-Groomed, we can expect
improvements all the way around with the double benefit
of more snow and cooler temps to cook out any dampness.

:) Bring Back The Memories... Research Future Visits...
If you would like to look up dates you visited Tremblant, or you
want to research days/weeks/months to visit, you can sample what
they look like historically, month by month, year by year.

When reviewing dates from any of the past, numbered, archived pages,
you can use the "Previous Topic" or "Next Topic" buttons, located
screen far right, in upper date/message bar to scroll through sequential
dates, or use your browsers "back" button to stay on the selected index
page for non-sequential date reviews in either forward or reverse order.

There are approximately 6, 25 day Index pages per season.

( If you "Bookmark" the link above, it will always take you to the
First index page with the latest posts. That gives you an immediate,
current to 25 day past, review scroll of Winter Alpine Conditions by
consecutive date.)
