T360 - Essential Snow Storm Warning Apres Ski Edit @ 7:43 P.M.

Here’s just about all you need to know
about tomorrows major snowstorm forecast...

More on all this in the morning, but...
The one element all the forecast detail does NOT include
is... the Drifting Factor. The wind direction is forecast at
Northerly, swinging around to Nor-Easterly, which means
it should be coming across the Mountain from between Nansen
and P’tit Bonheur. That puts the entire main peak of the
Ski Resort Alpine Trail Network in the down-wind, lee-side
of the taller Johannsen peak, which is on the compass point
north. As a consequence of this relationship between geophysical
contours and wind direction, there could be an immense drifting
phenomenon in excess of the ambient ground level accumulations
generated over the ski trails, with particular benefit to the Edge sector,
the Lowell Thomas sector, the Soleil sector and the Devils River/Jasey-Jay zone.

Regional Tremblant Fans:

Please see all attached weather forecast
data within the original post below, and...

Plan Accordingly!

Of Dubious Distinction....

The Coldest Morning Of The Season.

So-Far, or maybe, for the whole season?

Please Note:

Cold does not stop activity at Tremblant. Terrain expansion
and refinement work continues on. For the hardy enthusiasts who
appreciate the uniqueness of cryogenic snow, the fun goes on.
For the kids in race development programs, they get all the thrills
of freezing their butt’s off between training runs on fantastic technical
course conditions.

Weather Notes:

Very close to a 20C rise in temps to the days high
point is going make a hugely positive difference
to use and enjoyment over the course of open hours.

If you’re dressed for the morning, by mid-afternoon
you’ll be feeling strangely hot. The answer is “Vents”.
Even entry level current jacket designs are available
with various torso vents and personally, we would
just never buy any Ski jacket without them, as they
are invaluable for days like today with dramatic
differences in temp ranges that call for adaptability
to remain comfortable at both ends of the temp range.

Please Note: We hope to update Winter Storm Warning

Conditions Notes:

-------------- Conditions Caveats: ---------------

- Do not let little kids out in these early morning Sub -30’s C
temperature ranges.

- Extreme Frostbite Danger Exists For Any Exposed Skin
Within 3 To 5 Minutes Within Static Position. With Forward
Descent Speeds Frostbite Damage To Exposed Skin Can
Occur Within 2 Minutes.

--------------------------------------------------

Clinically speaking, and notwithstanding the cold, the skiing
should be very fine to excellent across all groomed terrain.

As the day warms up towards the expected high temp at -14C,
it will do nothing but get better as any early glide issues caused
by extreme low temps literally begin to melt away. The reason
we say “melt away” is that as surface snow temps reach into,
then above the mid-minus 20’s, the normal function of
molecular layers of lubricating water generation from friction
along the running edges of skis or board begin to happen.
That molecular-thin layer of water lubricant becomes very
noticeable as dramatically improved glide compared to the
initial dry sand-like super cold snow experience.

Additionally, solar energy may contribute to faster thermal
transfer effect into the surfaces where direct exposure occurs.
It is therefore likely that the Versant Sud/South Side, and
Soleil Sectors will have accelerated glide improvements
compared to Versant Nord/North Side trails that are shaded
in the afternoon sun.

This may be a bit of a nuance thing though, as when the
ambient air temps rise into the minus teen’s C, everything
exposed to the atmospheric rise should benefit with
enhanced glide performance.

In the Sous Bois/Hors Piste/Un-Groomed categories,
everything is fine, but it’s been a while since a single
significant snowfall, so the very best news there is
“tomorrow”. With anywhere between 20 to 35 cm’s
of projected accumulation, that’s almost “Blizzard”
territory... “if...” it happens as forecast.

:) Bring Back The Memories... Research Future Visits...
If you would like to look up dates you visited Tremblant, or you
want to research days/weeks/months to visit, you can sample what
they look like historically, month by month, year by year.

When reviewing dates from any of the past, numbered, archived pages,
you can use the "Previous Topic" or "Next Topic" buttons, located
screen far right, in upper date/message bar to scroll through sequential
dates, or use your browsers "back" button to stay on the selected index
page for non-sequential date reviews in either forward or reverse order.

There are approximately 6, 25 day Index pages per season.

( If you "Bookmark" the link above, it will always take you to the
First index page with the latest posts. That gives you an immediate,
current to 25 day past, review scroll of Winter Alpine Conditions by
consecutive date.)
