4/1/22 #Tremblant Conditions

T360 Prime Time Apres Ski Edit, Under Construct At 9:07 P.M.

When we wrote the lead “Anything Is Possible Spring” for todays post...

We did not realize it was going to be a surprise “Powder Day”.

This is not an April Fools joke.

This is real, this is Tremblant today...

When we wrote at 6:25 A.M. this morning:

"we’re hoping the main difference could be snowfall up on the
trails where typically cooler temps by -4C, could put us right into
a snow zone if, if, if, Mother Nature really wants to help out."

Basically, we got all of the “Best Case Scenario”
we thought possible.

It was not technically a “Blizzard”, however it was a very vigorous,
thickly falling, humidity dense, Spring “Powder” snow, if you can
call snow this thick “Powder”. From a pure utility sense, the density
generated resistance was actually a gravity offset, so fairly easy to
navigate through the thickness of the Sous Bois example you see
above(Versant Nord/North Side, Expo Quad Sector, Trail #102
“Dynagriffe”), with a fair degree of natural speed control.

Compared to the threat of rain forecast, what a fantastic way to start
April and we do feel vindicated calling for this snowfall potential.

The day did not start first tracks this way, there was some roughness
to the initial surfaces with much of the Mountain being exposed to
slightly below Zero C, so there was a fair amount of froze in the mix.
Once the temps began to climb, so did the snow begin to fall at just
about 10:00 A.M., and from there, it began to build in volume rapidly.
By after lunch, we were all getting plastered with thick wet snow, however,
more importantly, the Mountain was getting plastered with thick wet snow.

For a related example, the shot you see below was from around 12:30 P.M.
on La Griffe itself, but by 2:30 on the descending right side, there were
wind-shaped powder lines over 20cm’s.

The consensus between the locals today was that the Nord/North held
an advantage in overall conditions over the Sud/South although it needs
to be clearly stated that any day that could have been rain and ends up
snow, is an excellent day all the way around.

While the skiing was a near miraculous April 1 full-on snowstorm,
the photography was unfortunately severely limited, and ultimately
made impossible to continue with due to snow-plastered lens and
operating controls that got so wet the camera went into default
shut-down mode to protect the inner circuits. So you’re not
going to get much more, tonight at least, but we do hope to
have more processed and ready for the morning. Excess snow-filters
and snow-fog are entirely welcome anytime and we’re happy to report
the reason for bad photography is great snow!

The weather forecast was wrong in a good way yesterday,
and it could be wrong again today. There was a lot less in
the way of outright “rainy", and a lot more of “clear", with
even some afternoon glimpses of blue sky and sunny bits
that were never a part of any forecast.

The big mystery is not that things could be different, it is
how it could be different. Yesterday showed you exactly
that, to a positive net result, but the really big wild card
today could be whether or not it will be either similar or
completely opposite because both of those possibilities exist.

Within the indicated temp range, we’re hoping the main
difference could be snowfall up on the trails where typically
cooler temps by -4C, could put us right into a snow zone
if, if, if, Mother Nature really wants to help out. It should
be pointed out for historic objectivity that yesterday afternoon
saw a Summit-to-base temperature anomaly where they were
simultaneously at +4 C when normally the Summit would be
-4 C cooler. Anther “Wild Card” ??? Could today be another
abnormal temperature “Inversion”???

Currently the Summit is holding at -2C.

Weather Notes:

April Showers... The best we can hope for is periodic.
So far, it’s following the hourly forecast, as it’s just dry
and overcast, however if yesterday is any sign of what's
possible, it could all change either way in a half hour,
or less. Never-the-less, this hourly forecast does suggest
the bulk of the day could be either dry or snowy over
trail elevations.

Conditions Notes:

100% Genuine, Authentic “Spring”.

A basic, key point to remember is that regardless
of Mother Nature soup du jour momentary weather,
the groomed trail base is all winter square area coverage.

Due to the very close to Zero C that may have had some
cooler elevations below the freezing mark, there could
be icy bits. Optimizing safety and performance is only
possible with recent, fresh, sharp edges when daily temp
cycles include thermal oscillations from below to above
Zero C.

There are 31 “Progressive” Openings this morning pending
Ski Patrol clearance, so it is essential to check with Tremblant
Info.Ski crews as often as necessary for up to the minute
changes to trail availability.

They Will Set You In The Right Direction.
